Robert's

POV

I was really out of my mind when Max came. I don't trust him now.

Anyways, I was still trying my best to make it look that I was enough to fight them, with my men of course, but I wasn't.

I heard Max shouting my name, but I thought he was distracting me. Or even if I didn't think that, I didn't have time to even look at him. Many guns were replaceing the right time to shoot me. But then I heard a gunshot right behind me. The shot couldn't be a miss, and the gun sound confirmed that it was not our men.

So, I turned around and found Max lying and that broke my heart.

Did he take the gunshot for me?

I was going berserk. I started firing way too fast and soon my men joined the fight. I was fast in taking down the enemies with the help of everyone.

After that, I bent down. Max's eyes were open, but he didn't seem to speak anything.

"Hold on, Max. The ambulance is coming" I said to him.

And he was smiling?

I can never understand this guy. After everything, he is smiling?

The ambulance came and took him to the hospital. I decided to take Hailey with me and meet them at the hospital too. Some of my men have gone with Max for filling the formalities. I reached Apartment C and knocked on the door of her room.

"Who's it?" she asked.

"Hm... I am Robert's enemy" I mocked.

"What?"

"Open the door," I said.

And yes, I have altered my voice a little so that she can't recognize me.

"No!"

"I will break it"

"I'll call Robert"

"He's shot" I lied.

She suddenly opened the door. "Wha-"

She stopped seeing me. "Robert, Seriously! How can you joke about this!"

"Were you worried about me?" I asked.

She looked at me and suddenly hugged me. I felt like losing all my senses, but I kept calm.

"Of course! Of course, Robert. Don't joke about such things again"

I felt affected by her words. I pulled apart and smiled. But my smile faded as I remembered about Max.

"Come on, we have to meet Max... He was shot"

Her eyes widened and she nodded. "Is he gonna be okay?" she asked.

"Hope so" I replied.

I don't know how much he is hurt. But I should probably think positively.

I reached the hospital and saw my men outside. As I reached the door, they left the area.

I went inside and told the receptionist that I want to meet Max's doctor.

She took a while before making a call and then telling me to reach floor 5, ward 261.

I went to lift while Hailey followed me.

As we went to the floor, we met the nurse.

"Are you for Mr. Max that got admitted today?" she asked.

"Yes"

"umm... I'm gonna call the doc so you could talk"

"Thanks"

A doctor came. "Have a seat" he said.

We went to his cabin and sat down. Then the atmosphere suddenly tensed up.

"His condition is critical. We cannot operate on our own. The bullet hasn't injured any organ, so that's not an issue. But I think the operation is more dangerous" "You can't let the bullet inside him!!" I yelled.

"Calm down, please Robert" I heard Hailey as she kept a hand on my shoulder.

"Yes, we know sir. But..." the doctor seemed quite a skeptic one.

"There has to be a solution," I said.

"Hmm... Well... Only one person can do this operation with a 90% success rate"

"Who is it!?" I asked.

"Dr. Smith. But... He is way too much expensive" the doctor said.

"So? You have to do something! I will pay, what's the issue?"

"It's very expensive..."

I couldn't believe these doctors are worrying so much about money?

Is money bigger than life?

I took out my credit card and kept it in front of him. "I am paying. You need to book an appointment right now and have him do the operation" I said.

The doctor nodded. "Please pay in the reception," he said.

I took the card back and went to the reception. I paid. It was just a billion dollars and he was so much skeptical that I'll not pay.

I mean, seriously.

"What if I can't save him? What will happen then? I'll never be able to forgive myself..." I murmured to myself.

"He'll be fine" I heard Hailey. "You are doing your best. That's all is needed"

I looked at her and a weak smile crossed my lips. "Thanks for supporting me Hailey," I said.

She looked at me and smiled. "You are doing everything you can. So, don't worry"

"But it's my mistake. I-I was the one who denied him from coming. Otherwise, I would have given him additional security if I knew he would come. I thought he wouldn't" "He came to you. You're lucky" she said.

"I-I can't believe he did so much for me after all I said to him..." I said.

She smiled. "People love you, Robert"

"I highly doubt that," I said and then went out. "I don't like hospitals"

"No one does" Hailey replied.

We were standing out of the hospital and talking. It felt good. She felt at home.

"Do you hate me?" I asked her suddenly.

"Do I look like I hate you?" she asked.

"I don't know"

"I don't," she said.

I smiled. "I hope Max will be okay. I-I am so guilty and ashamed"

She kept a hand on my shoulder. "He will be. After all, he has a friend like you"

She sometimes sounds like an angel.

Sometimes I want to give in. But I can't. How can I?

After everything that happened, I can't! I can't give in once again! I can't fall for anyone!

I received a call. "Okay," I replied.

"Max's operation is gonna take time. The doctor will come tomorrow and then it will take one day. So, we should go home"

"Okay. Let's go"
