Chapter 34

SELENE

"Hey, Clarissa!" I greeted her as soon as she picked up the call, "what's up with you? Are you busy?"

"Hey Selene, I'm good and I'm not busy right now. Is everything okay?" She asked and I looked at the heap of clothes and shoes before me and shook my head. "I don't think I am, can you come over and help me?"

"I'll be there in a minute," she said hurriedly and ended the call. I tossed the phone aside the moment the call ended and immediately rushed downstairs to wait for her.

I fixed my eyes on the door and began pacing around the living room once I got there "please hurry up!" I mumbled and rubbed my hands furiously together, "please" I mumbled again and looked out of the window but there was still no sign of her.

My eyes diverted to the wall clock and I felt like banging my head on the wall, the time was currently 5 pm and that means I have only 1 hour left to prepare and I don't even know what outfit I should put on, "Oh God!" I huffed and pulled the door open, so I could go and wait for her outside, maybe that will make her hurry up.

"Only if Eliana was still around" I sobbed when I got outside and there was still no sign of Clarissa, "I miss her" I mumbled but my pity party was interrupted when I heard a car pull into the driveway and I immediately looked up, and Clarissa jumped out of the car looking alarmed.

I immediately rushed to her and pulled her into a hug, "thank God you are here!" I exclaimed and pulled away from the hug, "let's go, we don't have any time" I grabbed her hands and began dragging her into the house.

"I thought you said something was wrong with you?" She asked and I turned to her and nodded, she immediately stopped walking and looked me up and down with a frown on her face, "you look perfectly alright tho!" she stated and crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay! Okay! I know I look perfectly alright, but Drystan asked me out on a date, and I have nothing to wear and the time is currently 5 pm or something and he'd be here in a few minutes! It's driving me nuts!" I rambled and her eyes widened, and she took a step back, "shit!" I cursed when I realized she must probably be thinking I was trying to rub it on her face,

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean.." I started but she interrupted me by grabbing my hands and rushing into the house.

"That's a real emergency! Common, hurry up! Did he say where you guys would be going, did he leave a clue?!" She shrieked and a smile graced my face.

"He didn't say anything!" I replied and she shook her head, then hastened her steps.

"Boys are dumb! How then does he expect you to pick the proper outfit" she hollered and pulled the door to my room open, "okay you made a huge mess here!" She shrieked the moment she walked into my room and I sighed dejectedly. "I know"

"Well, we can work around it! Let's go" she stated and began bringing out outfits that caught her eyes from the heap, then laid them on the bed, "while I do this, go and take your bath and apply a little touch of makeup!" She ordered and I grinned widely. "You are a lifesaver!" I mumbled and hugged her tightly before I dashed into my bathroom to do as she said.

30 minutes after that, I was dressed and ready for the date. We both decided on a red sundress that stopped just above my knees with a pair of black heels and a black bag to match, because in Clarissa's words "a sundress can never go wrong no matter the date!", and looking at myself right now, I agree with her.

She was applying the finishing touches to my makeup when we heard a knock on the door and we both looked at each other with wide eyes, "there, there, I'm done!" She said and dropped the brush she was holding, I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled appreciatively.

"Thank you so much! I couldn't have done this without you" I said and gave her the puppy eyes, which just made her roll her eyes at me even tho a smile graced her face.

"You would have done the same for me, I just know that," she said and we both hugged each other, but it was short-lived because a knock came on the door the next moment and we both exchanged glances.

I cleared my throat and stood up from my chair, "yes?" I said and we both held in a laugh

"Hey! It's Drystan, are you ready? Or should I give her highness 3 more years?" He asked and we both burst into laughter, and slowly trudged to the door.

"You don't have to do that," I said as I pulled the door open and walked out, "your Highness is ready" he chuckled and grabbed my hand and placed a kiss on it.

"You look lovely"

"Thank you" I replied and looked at his outfit with an appreciative smile, "you look good as well"

He shook his head at my compliment and smiled, "thank you. You're ready to go right?" He asked and I nodded my head, "let's go then! And bye Clarissa, you shouldn't bother hiding when you know I can smell you" he said and Clarissa came out from my room, laughing. "Good luck on your date you two, I'll lock up after you two leave," she said and beamed us.

"Thank you!" We both responded together and then walked out of the house, she trudged behind us and bid us bye when we got into the car.

"Did I tell you, you look good?" He asked a moment after we got into the car, and I giggled and nodded my head.

"You did!"

"Well, you look very good! I said it again" he said and drove out of the driveway

"Thank you" I replied and we both fell into a comfortable silence after that.

We drove for a few minutes in silence and I kept looking out of the window, trying to see if I could identify where we were going but after a while, I gave up and turned to ask Drystan, but his attention was solely focused on the room but I didn't miss the way he was patting his head and occasionally drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. "Are you nervous?" I asked and bit my tongue to keep myself from smiling.

"No! I'm not. Why would I be?" He responded immediately and I tittered.

"Yeah right, you're patting your head, drumming your fingers, tapping your feet, you are..." I didn't get to finish my sentence because he immediately stopped the car and grinned at me.

"We are here!" He stated and jumped out of the car. I shook my head at his antics and was about to open my door but he beat me to it, "I open doors for you, ma'am. Let's go!" He said and helped me down the car.

"Where are we?" I asked as he led me to an unknown destination and instead of giving me a proper response, he shrugged.

"You'll see," he said and I didn't say anything after that and just let him lead the way. We both walked for about a minute before he turned to me and put his hands over my eyes "I want it to be a surprise" he whispered into my ears and the hairs on my neck stood erect.

He guided me a bit further before he slowly removed his hand from my eyes, and I gasped at the view before me.

He had set out a beautiful picnic mat for us with two baskets of food and a bottle of wine beside it, but that wasn't the only thing that caught my eye, it was the beautiful waterfall right in front of the picnic mat that had me gasping.

The sounds of the waterfalls drowned out the noise of everything else, and it made it clearer that it was just the two of us there at that moment, "do you like it?" I heard him ask and I immediately turned to him.

"Like it? I freaking love it!" I squealed and hugged him. He heaved a sigh of relief and hugged me back, "thank you for doing this" I said as we both pulled away from the hug.

"Anytime" he replied and kissed my forehead, "let's go sit"

We both walked over to the picnic mat and sat down, and immediately turned to him with wide eyes, "you got a foam mat?" I asked and he nodded.

"Waterfall areas are rocky, I didn't want us to be uncomfortable" he answered simply and I cooed but he ignored that, and pulled one basket closer to him and set two plates between us, "I made the pancakes you wanted" He gushed and dished out 5 pancakes on my plate and passed it to me.

"I could marry you right now" I moaned as I put a piece of pancake in my mouth and he winked at me.

"In less than two months, I'll be your husband" he teased and butterflies erupted in my tummy but I covered it up with a giggle, "wine," he said and handed me a glass of wine, which I gratefully took from him.

We both made small talks after that and devoured our meals quietly and thoroughly as we spoke, and when we were done eating, we sprawled out on the mat in each other's arms and stared at the waterfall with smiles on our faces.

"How do you feel now?" He asked after a while and I raised my head to look at him.

"I feel so good and less stressed. I just want to live in this moment forever," I paused and wiggled my brows at him " I didn't know you could be this romantic" I teased and we both laughed, "but honestly, thank you for doing this" I said and kissed both of his cheeks, then snuggled into his arms properly.

"You are welcome, but would it make me selfish if I say, I didn't plan this just to get your mind off things?" My brows furrowed when he said that, and I propped up with my arms to get a clearer look at him, "I mean it's a major reason but that's not all" "What else is there?"

He sighed and sat up from the mat and grabbed my face softly, "the thing is I don't know why I'm telling you this, I planned on not letting you know for a while longer but I just need to get it off my chest. So listen without any questions" he started and I bobbed my head stiffly, he took a very deep and prolonged breath before he started talking "The first time I saw you, I was astonished by your beauty. I'd never seen anyone as beautiful as you but that was it, I wanted nothing more than to appreciate your beauty but then you agreed to marry me and I lost it" he took a momentary pause and continued.

"I disliked you for that but that didn't change the attraction I felt for you, if you were observant you might have noticed that" I rolled my eyes at his words, and he let out a laugh before he began speaking again, "so I decided to torment you till you called off the marriage but you never did. You stood up to me each time and it was really beautiful to watch you all riled up but firm in your words, I don't know where I'm going with this but I just wanted to let you know that I don't dislike you anymore. The part of me that is attracted to you keeps getting stronger each day, and in as much as I'd like to hide that and never let you know, I can't keep it to myself anymore"

"So Annha Selene, your fiance has developed a huge crush on you and just wants to let you know that he's going to be here for you throughout this period of figuring all this out and more"

Tears already welled up in my eyes when he was done speaking and I stared at him wordlessly, "please say something" he pleaded when I didn't say anything for a while and I choked out a sob.

"Well, Beta Drystan, I don't have anything else to say apart from, I feel the same too. I like you, a lot" I confessed and his eyes widened a fraction.

"Are you serious?" He asked and I nodded my head with a smile.

"Yes, now shut up and seal this with a kiss," I said and he immediately captured my lips with his.
