Chapter 49

SELENE:

Drystan and I walked into the wedding hall dressed casually with a smile on our faces, we were mandated to be here earlier than everyone else to make sure everything was in order.

Decorators were running around what was once a plain hall in the packhouse but was now so beautifully decorated, trying to give everything the last final touch. People were littered everywhere carrying one thing or the other, some spoke in hushed voices while the rest were dishing out orders at the top of their voices.

I exchanged glances with Drystan and we both shrugged our lips then turned back to the scene, but before any of us could say anything, Clarissa popped out of nowhere and grabbed my arm. "Hello Drystan" she greeted quickly and before Drystan could respond to her greeting, she dragged me away while I looked at him with a face that screamed help, but he only smiled and waved at me, "I'm so glad you are here, everything is in shambles. We can't replace Amelia's gown, her makeup artist is running late, her hairdresser too and the shoe they brought for her is the wrong one. What are we going to do?!" She cried out and I grabbed her shoulders.

"Hey!" I called out and she looked at me with hooded eyes, "take a deep breath and calm down" I said and she did as she was told a couple of times. When I saw she has calmed down, I smiled, "now go over all you just told me again, slower and clearer" she then repeated all she said previously slowly as we both walked to Amelia's dressing room and I bobbed my head to show I was listening.

"What are we going to do?" She asked when she was done talking, I looked at the door of Amelia's room, heaved a sigh, and then turned back to her.

"You are going to be in charge of replaceing the gown and the right shoe because I don't know them. I, on the other hand, will try to call the hairdresser and the makeup artist, and if they delay any longer, I know a thing or two about makeup and hair. I could handle it" I suggested and Clarissa's face immediately lit up with a smile.

"You're a lifesaver" she exclaimed and pulled me into a hug that was over in a second, "I'll get started on my task, I'm counting on you, Selene," she said and ran out.

I watched her run till she disappeared out of my sight, I then took a deep breath and walked into the room. Amelia was pacing around the room, slapping her fists against her palm repeatedly, "Hi, Amelia" I greeted her the moment I walked in and she immediately snapped her head towards me, but the slight relief that was on her face vanished when she saw it was me.

"Selene" she called out in a low voice, "welcome" she mumbled and began pacing around again.

I shook my head at her apprehension and walked over to her, "listen Amelia" I started and helped her take a seat in front of the mirror, "Clarissa already let me in on what's happening okay, and I'm here to handle that. You'll sit here quietly and try to keep your nerves calm while I call the makeup artist and hairdresser one more time" I said calmly and massaged her shoulders.

"But what if they don't come?" She mumbled in a tiny voice, and my heart broke for her. Not just because her hairdresser and makeup artist were running late, but because someone as delicate as her would soon be married to a monster.

"If they don't make it, I'll do everything they ought to do for you, okay? And I'll make sure it's perfect" I assured her and despite the hesitance in her eyes, she gave me a tight-lipped smile and nodded. I also smiled at her through the mirror, and then turned to get started on the calls,

But the door opened the next minute and two girls I'd never seen before rushed into the room with boxes in their hands, "we are so sorry we are late, so sorry!" They both apologized in unison and I shook my head.

"Just get started, I'll deal with you lots later" I ordered and they immediately rushed to Amelia and offered another set of apologies.

Clarissa rushed in the next minute with the gown and shoes, shooting me an appreciative smile immediately rushed to Amelia and they all got to work.

I took that as confirmation that I wasn't needed for any other thing, so I immediately went in search of Drystan. I spent a few minutes hovering around in search of him before I saw him walking down the stairs and I immediately rushed to him, "Is it done?" I asked in a hushed tone the moment I walked up to him.

He looked up in a direction I assumed is Derrick's room then turned to me with a smirk and nodded, "yes, it's fixed in his room and the nearby rooms" he whispered and I winked at him, "Amelia?" He asked and we both began walking down the stairs.

I gave him a sad smile, "ready as she can be" I mumbled. He immediately wrapped his arm around my shoulders and squeezed, "I can't believe she's about to get married to him, shouldn't we just stop here?"

"The bond gets broken the moment he's dead, you don't have to worry about her," he said and then passed me a small mic, "here, have this on you all the time." I took it from him and examined it.

"Isn't the mind link, way better than this?" He shook his head and covered my palm with his to hide the small device,

"Someone can tap into our mind link especially Derrick since he's the Alpha. This is safer, so make sure you have it on you all the time" I sighed and nodded my head, "The ceremony's about to start, I'm going to go get dressed. So you too should go ahead" he kissed my forehead and then walked away.

I stared at his retreating figure with a heavy heart, I couldn't help the anxiety that was clouding my mind with what we are about to do. "He's going to be fine, Selene" Eliana's comforting voice said in my head and I smiled.

"Yes, Selene. You've got nothing to worry about."

"We're with him, he's not going to get hurt"

Elena and Selena reassured me as well, and I suddenly felt a lot better and lighter about what we were going to do.

"Thanks, guys. I still feel anxious but knowing you guys are here with me, I feel a lot more assured that this will be a success" I said to them.

Clarissa popped out the next second beside me and I yelped, "what are you doing here, just standing and looking? Amelia is almost done getting ready" she grabbed my hands again and began dragging me away, "come on, you already know your outfit is in my room you should have gotten dressed already. But it's cool, let's get dressed together" she said and I didn't protest and just tagged along with her.

We both got to the room and hurriedly dressed up, Clarissa chose a red tight-fitted gown that stopped just above her knees. It was a V-neck gown and had glitters all over, I helped her with her hair and makeup before I, dressed.

I settled for a long silky black gown, it didn't hug my body but anyone would see it was made for me. It had a slit up to the thighs, which is the reason I chose it in the first place, I quickly did my hair and makeup, and discreetly fixed the mic on myself. I paired it with a pair of red stilettos and I was good to go.

"If you're ready, we should get going to Amelia's room," Clarissa said

"Yeah, let's go," I said and together we rushed to Amelia's room, where the most beautiful bride I'd have laid my eyes on was.

She was dressed in a long silver gown, her hair and makeup were perfectly done and she looked nothing less of a goddess, but I couldn't bring myself to look at her without my heart breaking for her, so with great difficulty, I walked over to her and said, "you look very beautiful, Amelia and just so I'm the first, I wish you a happy married life" I said even tho I knew that was the last thing she'd have with Derrick.

She smiled and said "thank you" Clarissa also gave her wishes, when she was done, we helped Amelia up, and just like a sacrificial lamb, we led her out to the hall where everyone was already present and waiting for her.

My eyes met Drystan's the moment we stepped out and we both smiled at each other, I then gently turned to Derrick and the moment our eyes met all traces of smile disappeared from both our faces, and with great difficulty gave each other a curt nod. I dragged my eyes away from him and began leading Amelia to him amidst the crowd, who parted at the sight of us. Clarissa and I gently led her up to the podium and handed her over to Derrick, who took her hand with a grin on his face and immediately placed a kiss on her hand, and the crowd went into a frenzy with their claps and howls.

Clarissa and I took our place behind Amelia as the ceremony began, "Silence" a voice rumbled and everyone immediately became quiet. Demetrius, the oldest wolf in the pack stepped forward and grabbed the couple's hands, he was the one to get them married as our custom states, "it's with great pleasure that I'm still alive to witness this beautiful union and the beginning of a new era," he started and everyone hooted in joy.

"Without wasting much time, let's get started. The human culture first" he said and a box containing two rings were brought to him and he presented it to the couple, who gently took the rings from the box, "put it on each other's fingers" he commanded and they both did as they were told, while Demetrius recited the famous marriage sayings.

"Now, for our culture," he said, the room became deadly silent and I felt blood rush to my cheeks because a part I know all too well was just about to take place. My eyes accidentally met with Drystan's and he winked at me, causing a million butterflies to erupt somewhere in between my legs, but our moment was interrupted by Demetrius's voice,

"Hanc coniunctionem luna dea signaret et te simul etiam post mortem custodiat" he blessed the union and the moment he was done, Derrick drew Amelia closer to him, and with so much carefulness sunk his fangs into her neck causing a hiss of pain to leave Amelia's lips, but soon enough it turned into a cry of bliss.

I and everyone else present watched with so much keenness the intimate act of the couple and I could swear a bunch of them got their highs from watching them as well. Howls and claps erupted when the both of them came and pulled away from each other, "The union is now complete" Demetrius said and the frenzy went up a notch.

Everyone began clustering towards the podium to congratulate the new couple and I immediately took advantage of my position and wished them first, before I gently exited the podium and walked off to the food stand, where I stood and watched the interaction on the podium.

Both couples wore a bright smile on their faces as they accepted the gift and good wishes being offered to them, it took about an hour before everyone was done offering their gifts and their wishes, and then the reception was declared open.

Music began playing and everyone scattered around the hall in different directions, some came over to the food stand, others went to the dance floor, while the rest chose to be wallflowers but my interest was still solely on the couples, especially Derrick, who was still clueless on what fate laid ahead of him. I was still looking at him when he whispered something into Amelia's ear, and then to Drystan's before he stood up and walked away.

My mic buzzed a few seconds after he left, and Drystan's voice came in, "it's time" we both made eye contact, and with one curt nod, he hurried off to Derrick while I turned on my heels and walked backstage.
