chapter 12

Extra Chatper

In my second year after transferring, another major incident occurred in our area. To save a little girl, I took a risk and joined the front–line battle myself.

The little girl was rescued, but I was nearly crushed by a falling beam.

At the critical moment, Ian arrived with a rescue team.

As he carried me out of the fire, he said, “This is the third time already.”

“Jasmine, you’re truly amazing, but I worry about you.”

I smiled and pointed at the fire behind us, saying, “Just now, I saw my star.”

Ian frowned, not understanding.

I didn’t have the strength to explain further.

When I regained consciousness, my throat was hoarse from inhaling too much smoke. Ian didn’t press for answers but looked very concerned.

Finally, when my throat recovered, I took the initiative to talk to him.

I knew that Ian’s social media username, Pikake, was the Hawaiian word for jasmine. It was my name.

I also knew that he had been thinking about me for many years.

Before, I felt I couldn’t respond to his feelings, but now, I seemed to have changed.

I told him that I saw stars in the fire.

But I didn’t tell him that whether it was the first time or the second time.

He was always the star amidst the flames.

However, a rose doesn’t need stars to shine; it is brilliant on its own.
