Chapter 536 Settling All Matters From The Past

Carol was somewhat taken aback. “Right now? But we haven’t even notified Riveron Corporation yet.”

“Forget about that. Just send it.”

“All right.”

After hanging up the phone, Josiah was met with a suspicious glance from Maverick. “What are you scheming now?” he asked.

“There are no tricks involved. It’s simply a matter of dealing with all past issues.”

Maverick hummed in response, then turned back with a frown to look at Lysander. “Why aren’t you dressed yet? Hurry up and put my coat on,” he said.

Lysander had no choice but to drape her father’s overcoat on herself first.

Only then did Maverick’s expression soften a bit. “Do you still feel cold?”

Lysander shook her head. “I’m not cold anymore. Your coat is really

warm.”

True, that was the case, but after being exposed to the wind for a while, Lysander’s lips had turned somewhat pale.

In the end, Maverick gave in. “Mr. Guerra, where is that café you were just talking about?”

Immediately, Josiah said, “Sirs, please follow me.”

The café that Josiah spoke of was conveniently located just opposite the hospital, a short walk away. He had visited this place a few times before and could be considered a regular. Without hesitation, he approached the waiter and requested a private room upstairs.

As soon as the door closed, it created a secluded little space, serene and comfortable. It was the perfect setting for discussing secretive matters.

The four of them took their seats, yet no one was the first to break the silence.

Maverick guided Lysander to sit on the inside, purposefully placing her away from Josiah. His vigilance was so strong that it was plainly visible on

his face.

Josiah ordered a pot of Earl Grey. The tea was crystal clear, and its aroma was refreshingly crisp. It also had a calming effect. Served with celadon tea ware, every aspect, from etiquette to standard, was flawlessly met.

Believing himself to be the younger generation, Josiah stood up and picked up the teapot. “Mr. Maverick, this tea is quite good. Let me pour you some. Give it a try.”

Maverick pushed the cup in front of him away without a second thought, showing no regard for courtesy.”

Seeing the delicate nature of their relationship, Howard smoothly took the teapot from Josiah’s hand, saying, “Allow me.”

“Okay.” Josiah reluctantly sat back down.

He sneaked a glance at Lysander, but she was feeling uneasy. When she noticed his gaze, she could only let out a small sigh, then promptly looked

away.

Howard and Maverick were of a similar age, yet due to proper self–care in the past, Howard appeared slightly younger. At this moment, he stood up, teapot in hand, and courteously replaced the teacup Maverick had previously moved back to its original position. Pouring the tea, Howard respectfully said, “Mr. Maverick, this cup is for you.”

The tea was intentionally poured until it was seventy percent full.

Maverick cast a glance at the tea showing no intention of nicking it un

Instead, he said in an annoyed tone, “I’m just an ordinary citizen, not like you big bosses. This fine tea is wasted on me, so let’s forget it.”

The tea was ordered by Josiah. He took the initiative to say, “If you don’t like tea, Mr. Maverick, I can get you something else.”

Maverick managed to keep his irritation with Howard at bay, offering only a few sarcastic remarks. However, Maverick didn’t hold back when it came to Josiah, exclaiming, “I just can’t stand your nonsensical rituals! When I’m at home drinking tea, a simple teacup does the trick. Why do you have to make it so complicated? All this rinsing of tea leaves and pouring back and forth is just so annoying.”

Josiah listened quietly, choosing not to interject any further, and remained silent.

There was a fine tea set in Maverick’s house. Lysander had mentioned it before and said Maverick was knowledgeable about tea. His attitude that day was off, primarily because of Josiah.

In situations like these, the more one says, the more mistakes they make. Josiah touched his nose, obediently accepting the scolding.

Howard looked at the weathered expression etched between Maverick’s brows. Recalling what Josiah had mentioned about their family situation, he softened his tone and said, “Mr. Maverick, I actually-”

“Don’t bother addressing me that way.” Maverick waved dismissively.

Howard didn’t offer any rebuttals. He simply said, “All right. Since you don’t like that form of address, I’ll change it. I heard you used to be a technician at the factory. Can I call you by your first name?”

Knowing that it would be rude to spurn a friendly and humble person, Maverick simply muttered, “Do as you please.”

Lysander noticed Maverick’s furrowed brows, aware that he was feeling distressed. She quickly tugged on his sleeve and asked, “Dad, what kind of tea would you like? Just tell me, and I’ll pour a cun for you. How about

jasmine tea? I’ve noticed that the Earl Grey at home has been full for a while, but the jasmine tea seems to be consumed quite quickly.”

Immediately, Josiah beckoned a waiter over. “Switch to jasmine tea, and make it quick.”

The waiter hurried off to make a fresh pot of tea.

When Maverick was talking to Lysander, his demeanor softened. In a gentle, comforting tone, he reassured her, “I can drink anything, or nothing at all. You just sit tight.”

Across from them, Howard watched the scene unfold, a wave of heartache surging within him. At long last, he had heard his biological daughter call out that form of address, but the man she was addressing wasn’t him.

Not long after, the waiter brought in a fresh pot of jasmine tea.

The subtle, delicate fragrance immediately wafted through the air.

Howard waved the waiter away, personally pouring a cup of tea and offering it to Maverick with both hands. Sincerely, he ‘said,, “Maverick, if you’re not accustomed to the tea from the other pot, please try this one. Consider it a small token from me. I owe an apology to Lysa for my past. actions, and your dissatisfaction with us is justified.”

Maverick stared at him for a moment, finally picking up the cup to take a sip of the jasmine tea. He set it down and looked up at Howard. His hand, which was pressed against the cup, had turned red from the heat, yet he seemed completely unaware.

Lysander was the first to notice the peculiarity on Maverick’s hand. She quickly pushed the cup forward, anxiously saying, “Dad, what happened to you? It must be very uncomfortable if you’ve burned yourself.”

Awakening as if from a dream, Maverick muttered in a daze, “I’m fine.”

dazed.

Over the years, the livelihood of the entire family had rested solely on him and Laura. Yet, when Lysander’s biological family came looking for them, there was no sense of relief to be found.

Maverick met Lysander’s concerned gaze, forced himself to hide his desolation, and said, “I’m fine, Lysa. Actually, it’s a good thing you found your biological parents. Their family is well–off, and they’re…”

He spoke up to that point and couldn’t continue further.”

Upon hearing those words, Howard felt a deep sense of discomfort in his heart. His gaze toward them was filled with guilt.

Lysander quickly grabbed Maverick’s hand, noticing that aside from a slight burn, there seemed to be no other issues. Only then did she feel a bit of relief.

“Dad, regardless of what others say or what you might think, in my heart, you are my father. I will always be your daughter, Mom’s daughter, and Mich’s sister!” Lysander was determined and unwavering in her decision.

Howard was also feeling uneasy, but he still chimed in, “Maverick, rest assured, I’m not here to steal your daughter. I just feel that since the matter has already surfaced, hiding it any longer would only hurt both. sides. All we want is for Lysa to have a good future. On this point, we are completely in agreement.”

Maverick didn’t express his opinion. Instead, he gravely asked Howard, “I heard your family is well–off. How did Lysa get lost in the first place? How could such a small child fall into the water, especially in the dead of winter? Even if she didn’t drown, she could have frozen to death. Were you really taking good care of her?”
