"Eliza, are you seriously telling me that child wasn't mine? If you had just told me you were pregnant from the start, would I have even touched you? Why didn't you say anything? Or did you never want me to know in the first place?" His eyes darkened as if he was verifying his thoughts step by step.

She suddenly laughed, tears wetting the corners of her eyes, casting a desperate sheen. "That's right, I never intended to tell you. You're not fit to be a father, just like your own father. You're shameless, despicable, the lowest of the low. People like you don't deserve descendants."

"Then who does?" His annoyance flared, his hand clenching around her neck, pinning her to the couch, his stare menacing. "Tell me, who is worthy of being a father to your child?"

Eliza struggled to breathe under his grip. She took deep, labored breaths, her eyes red and glaring at him, but said nothing.

"Damn it." He cursed, releasing her neck and lifting her over his shoulder, heading to the bedroom. Her face was streaked with tears. Her body trembled like a deer that had been cornered.

Something in him softened. "What else can you do besides infuriate me?" He leaned in, his arm propping next to her, attempting to kiss her lips, but she dodged.

"We can still have children. It's not the end of the world. I'll just have to try harder." A void opened in Eliza's heart. The man standing in the sunlight, with a gentle smile, suddenly vanished from her world. The bubble she had painstakingly maintained burst into nothingness. She was alone in her world.

Eliza looked at Casper, feeling suddenly distant. Her slender fingertips, cold to the touch, traced his handsome face, lifting the corners of her mouth into a half-smile, revealing dimples. "Casper, you're so handsome. It's a pity..."

He should never have appeared in her life that year when she was eighteen. Nor should she have given him that portrait. She had sinned by falling in love with him, costing her family everything.

"What are you trying to say?" He

grasped her wrist, his eyes complex and indecipherable. She shook her head lightly, her smile enigmatic. Her cold fingertips gently slid over his features, finally resting on his lips, caressing them softly.

His heart raced. His throat turned dry. "What's... what's wrong?"

"Casper, it seems I never quite learned how to be with you." From the moment they married, she had tried adapting to him, cooperating with him, following his lead, even humbling herself... It didn't matter anymore. Really, it didn't matter.

Casper felt something was off with Eliza but couldn't pinpoint it. He gently caressed her face. "I... have a temper, too."

She shook her head. It wasn't about his temper but about meeting her that made it worse. "Casper, we're clearly the least suitable for each other, yet here we are, entangled. It must have been hard on you, too. Your revenge wasn't just for Nova but also a way to vent your own grievances, right?"

She nestled her face into his palm with a smile. "I'm truly sorry." His heart tightened inexplicably. Looking down, he gently kissed her lips, his hand wrapping around her waist, pulling her close.

In the quiet room, only the sound of their intimate kissing could be heard. She responded willingly, tilting her head back to accept his deep, dominant kisses.
