Chapter 48

Beta Liam

“So, we’re all agreed, yes?” Cal asks.

“Yes!” chimes Jack.

“Dam right!” I add.

“Brilliant, I’ll let Brooke know, Jack you can let Ashley know in advance if you’d like, we’ve got the BBQ tomorrow night so I’m thinking we do this the following day as Alpha Romero and his Luna Tiffany will be here along with Alpha Tito and they can witness the event!” Both Jack and I nod our agreement.

We’ve been in my lounge for the past 2 hours working out the plans and finally, we have settled on a plan for Marcus, Sarah and Beta John. We’re still unsure about what to do with Jacoby but have decided to seek Beta john’s advice, he knows more about Jacoby than any of us as he was living with him when they were Rogues, hopefully, his advice can shed some light on the situation for us.

Annabella left yesterday but has offered her help at any time which is great, she’s been a huge help with everything that has gone on, I doubt I’d have my memories back yet if it weren’t for her.

“Liam, what I tell you next has to remain a secret ok? Calvin already knows but I couldn’t tell you at the time.” Jack looks nervous but I can see a smirk starting to form at the corner of his mouth.

“Of course brother, what is it?”

“Tomorrow night at the BBQ…I’m going to propose to Ashley!” He’s now beaming and I don’t blame him.

“Holy f**k, that’s amazing Jack, I’m so happy for you!”

“I planned to do it on his birthday but then the explosion happened, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before but we weren’t sure what was going on with you!” He looks sad but he has nothing to feel bad about.

“No need for apologies brother, I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same, don’t take this the wrong way but I’m kind of glad that you didn’t get to do it yet, I love you both and I’d be gutted if I didn’t get to celebrate that moment with you both as myself!”

“Honestly, I’ve been thinking the same since it happened, which is why I waited, hoping you’d get your memories back before I do it.”

“Oh, Cal when you have time can you let me know how much I owe for Bethany while I was…unable to pay it and include her school tuition, please? I’m so mad at myself for not paying it straight away when you first told me!” He looks shocked for a moment before his brotherly smile spreads wide across his face.

“You don’t need to worry Liam, her school’s paid for and everything is so-!” Once he sees the look on my face, he doesn’t even bother finishing his sentence.

“I’m paying, it’s happening. I know it’s been a while so I don’t mind waiting for you to get the numbers together but I will be paying you back and I’ve got the new card I ordered in my room, I’ll give it to you later and you can use that from here on out, ok?”

Thankfully he gives up trying to argue it pretty quickly and we are soon finished with the meeting which is great timing for me, I have something I need to do before Bethany gets back from school and I should have just enough time.

Bethany

School has dragged today, seriously every lesson has been a f*****g bore, Katie has fallen asleep twice and if I hadn’t woken her up, she would be facing detention after school. The last lesson of the day is French which means Katie will be heading for nap number 3, she struggles to pay attention in French on a good day, I don’t mind French I can speak it quite well and have good grades but it can get boring.

“Ok class before we start today’s class, I have some news that I think you will all be very happy about!” Mr. Howard instantly has everyone’s attention including Katie’s which really makes a change.

“After a long chat with the principal, mostly me bragging about how well you guys are doing he has agreed a special field trip is in order!” A field trip means time away from school…I’m listening, he drags out telling us where the trip will take place and it’s slowly pissing me off.

“This July we are taking a 10-day field trip to…PARIS!” He shouts out the last part and we all quickly join in with the cheering and shouting, the excitement from everyone is bouncing off the walls and no one gets any work done as no one can keep their excitement in. During the class I catch quick glances of Katie looking a bit sad and distracted but the moment she notices my attention she masks it but I already know what’s wrong.

“Katie, are you worried you won’t be able to go?” I link her as no one needs to hear her business.

“I know I won’t be able to Beth, there’s no way my parents will be able to afford that kind of money!” I knew it would be that.

“Do you want to go?”

“Of course, but it’s ok I’ll get to enjoy everyone’s stories when they come back, you know how much I love hearing about other people’s adventures!”

“We’ll figure it out together, don’t worry Katie!” She sends me a reassuring smile but I know her too well to be fooled and I meant what I said, we’ll figure it out but even if we can’t then that’s ok too but either way, I won’t be going without her.

Finally, the bell rings signalling the end of the school day and I for one can’t wait to get out of here. We quickly head for our lockers, put our books away and grab our bags before heading outside of school. Brooke text me earlier letting me know she would pick us up today so not a stuffy bus for us and best of all it’s Friday, thank f**k!

The moment we arrive at the packhouse Katie’s mother links her to head home as her grandmother is visiting them, she lives in a different pack and doesn’t get to see her too often.

“Bethany, can you come and meet me? I’m over by the main lake.” Liam’s link shocks me for a moment how did he know I was home? I literally just got here but then the excitement of seeing him overrules everything so I link him back letting him know I’m on my way as I wave bye to Brooke and head straight off to meet him.

The moment I reach the lake and see Liam’s smile I know without a shadow of a doubt that my crush never truly left I just let myself believe it.

“Hey little wolf, how was school?” I stop right in front of him, this is the first time since he woke up from his coma that I’ve actually seen him look like his normal self and I love it!

“Boring today, I honestly couldn’t wait for it to be over but Mr. Howard our French teacher did tell us that they are arranging a 10-day field trip to Paris in July so that’s pretty cool!” He tenses up for a moment before he quickly pulls himself together, I’m not sure what that was about but I choose to ignore it.

“That sounds amazing sweetheart, are you going to go?”

“I’m not sure yet…” I don’t want to tell him the true answer yet, not until Katie has had the chance to speak to her parents first. He seems to sense I’d rather not talk about it right now and as usual, he never pushes me, instead, he asks me to follow him, he leads me

over to the other side of the lake and stops around 10ft to the side of the waterfall.

I quickly notice a lot of different stuff on the floor, but I’m confused and Liam quickly notices this.

“Before…everything happened I promised you that we would make a memorial for your parents and I know I let you down by not doing it and worse pushing it aside but I’m hoping you will let me make it up to you now. Beth, I’m so sorry for everything that

happened with that…Sarah but most of all I’m sorry for letting you down, I hope one day you can forgive me!” Is he being serious?

“Liam none of that was your fault, it’s all on them, not you, you haven’t let me down and there’s nothing to forgive you for, you’ve done nothing wrong and that’s that!” He tries to argue it but he soon realises he isn’t going to win this and soon we get started on the memorial, this guy has so much going on right now but yet here he is, helping me when he doesn’t have to, being his usual kind and caring self, goddess I have missed it.

I’m not sure how long we have been here but it’s starting to get dark but we’ve finished it and I honestly love it! It’s so much more than I thought it was going to be and I make sure Liam knows how happy and grateful I am to him but as usual he doesn’t think he’s done much and shrugs it off like it’s nothing, me however I’ll never be able to thank him enough for doing this for me.

Once we are all done, we head for the packhouse and straight to our floors to shower and change, I get out of the shower and check the time to see it’s almost 8 pm, we’ve missed dinner but I don’t even care, it was well worth it. I stick on my black cotton shorts and tank top and decide to head for the kitchen to grab a sandwich, I’m just about to link Liam to see if he wants one when I get a link from him instead asking me to meet him in the common room downstairs.

I throw on a hoody and my flip-flops and quickly arrive at the common area to be met with Liam sprawled out on one sofa and Jack and Ashley on the other. Liam only has grey joggers and socks on and f**k it is a beautiful sight! pick your chin up Bethany pick your chin up!

“Hey, what’s up?” I quickly ask Liam to distract myself, I’ve seen him topless so many times but I don’t think I’ll ever be unaffected by the sight.

“Well seeing as we missed dinner, I thought I would treat us to a takeaway and a film if you’re up for it? Jack and Ashley missed dinner too so I offered them to join us!” Takeaway, film and a topless Liam yes, please!

“Sounds good, I’m in!” Ashley orders the food while Jack puts some horror film on while I go to grab a bean bag from the corner to sit on, I don’t get very far as Liam stops me and sits up telling me to join him on the sofa. don’t need to tell me twice!

Usually, we pull throws out when we’re watching a film but this room is boiling tonight so the fewer layers the better, I take my hoody off and quickly remember that I don’t have a bra on, s**t! hoping no one notices I quickly sit down and thankfully Jack soon turns the lights out.

Before I get comfy, I reach over Liam to get a bottle of water off the side table and accidentally rub against his arm, I hear a small growl come from him but when I look at him his gaze is locked at the telly, what the f**k was that?

I pray he didn’t notice and I ignore what I heard and settle back down, replaceing myself getting distracted by thoughts of me and Liam being mates and doing this kind of thing except in my stupid teenage fantasies, there’s no gap between us on the sofa, just me wrapped in his arms. This stupid crush of mine is going to be the death of me, I know it is but yet I refuse to let it or him go.
