Chapter 101
“So how is it?” I asked Christian. I decided to make breakfast and for the first time I did not burn downthe house.
“I thought you were going to poison me…but it’s actually edible,” Christian complimented me. Besides.taking care of Siena, he got up every single morning to make me breakfast and cleaned up everythingafter me because I was a messy person and I felt terrible about it.
I always used to say that I was the one who was taking care of two babies, but it was actually the otherway around.
“So it’s good?” I asked for confirmation. “Gina, what do you think? He has to be nice to me because heowes me that, you do not.”
“Right.” Gina smiled. “I’m still alive and I didn’t throw up, so you did a great job. Like a five out of ten.”
“Only a five?” I spoke offended while Christian glared at her. “Gina, I told you we eat every single thingshe serves us-even if we feel like throwing up!” He spoke as he playfully poked his finger in her cheek.
“I’m sorry, I don’t like lying to her.” Gina apologized.
“Is your other half not here yet?” Christian asked as he sat down at the kitchen table. It was funny tosee how bothered Christian was by my brother and the fact that he was here almost every day, but Iwas the one who invited him.
Now that I had Beau, I did not want to let go of him.
“No, he isn’t,” I told Christian. “And you better be nice when he gets here.”
The comments he made about Beau got on my nerves. I never said anything about his siblings, so I didnot understand why he had so much to complain about mine. Respect had to come from both ways.
“I think we have to talk, you and I…we have to talk.” I sighed. “A talk?” Christian nervously asked.“Why, what’s wrong?”
“Oh, no-nothing with you, don’t worry.” I chuckled. After learning about Dario possibly or rather mostlikely being an Orlando, I wanted to tell Christian the truth. The last thing I needed was to cause ascene at dinner.
“Good, you’re scaring me,” Christian spoke relieved. “So what is it, what do you want to talk about?”
“Do you want some privacy?” Gina asked, but before she could get up from her chair I pulled her backdown and shook my head. “You’re like part of the family nowadays, so you might as well stay.”
“Oh, okay.” Gia mumbled.
“So remember I told you I accidentally flirted with someone?” I began the conversation. “What are yougetting at?” Christian shrugged his shoulders and focused his attention elsewhere.
“Yeah, before we go to that dinner with the Orlando’s tomorrow, I have to tell you something.” I spokewith an innocent look on my face. Maybe I was overreacting, maybe he wouldn’t get angry.
“That guy I flirted with, I’m pretty sure his name is Dario Orlando,” I spoke with closed eyes, and waited.for him to yell at me-except he never did.
“How do you know it’s him?” Christian calmly asked. That was it? He wasn’t angry? “I googled him,” Ispoke flustered.
“Ah, you googled him.” Christian chuckled. “Funny, and did he know you?”
“I think so yes, I told him my name was Serena Alfonzo and then he had this weird smirk on his faceand spoke about faith, so yes, I told him as I prepared myself for another scolding, but also that onenever came. “Did he tried to hit on you?” Christian asked.
“Yes, but I told him I have a fiancé and a baby!” I quickly spoke. “It’s okay Serena, don’t worry about it.”
“Okay?” I questioned. “Yes, it’s not the end of the universe. It’s fine-thanks for giving me a heads upthough.”
“Okay, cool.” I smiled back, but behind that smile, I had some thoughts. He was either pissed and tryinghis hardest to hide it because Gina was at the table, or he had really changed as a person and did notmind.
“Serena?” Beau called out and popped his head from behind the wall. “Beau, you’re here…again!”Christian gave him a backhanded comment and walked over to hug him.
The two were extremely awkward and it was mainly due to the both of them having the same yetdifferent personalities. Beau was one of a kind and nothing like my brothers, Marcello and Emilio andLuke.
Beau was on the quiet side, mysterious, and truly only spoke when spoken to-unlike my brothers andeven Christian who would often gave their unwanted opinions. “Hey.” Gina greeted him while he gaveher a nod back.
“You know, from all the Alfonzo’s you’re definitely my favorite. Christian mentioned. “After Serena, of
course.”
“Uh, thanks?” Beau spoke and gave me a look while I shrugged my shoulders and made a mental noteto never ask him to be nice again. And they said I was the bad actress. “You’re my favorite Lamberti,”
Beau told him.
“You don’t have much choice, Gio doesn’t like anyone and Enzo tried to have your twin killed. Now let’sgo and see your niece so you can tell Serena how much she looks like me.” He slammed his armaround his shoulders before he led Beau upstairs and left me behind. “Gina, why am I not hearing yourfootsteps?” He yelled out.
“Coming!” Gina yelled back and stood up in a hurry to follow him.
Just as I was about to follow her, I heard a knock on the door and made my way to the hallway as Ipatiently waited. I had learned from my past mistake and rarely opened doors anymore. It was notnecessary when there was someone hired to do that for us.
“Serena!” I heard Daniela’s voice and took a deep breath before the door had fully opened. “Serena,we missed you today-so we came and visit you.” Maddie pulled me into a hug.
“Come on, move so I can hug her,” Karina spoke and pushed Maddie aside. “It’s not even your family!”She snarled back. Maddie and Marcello weren’t married yet, so technically she wasn’t either.
“Are we bothering you?” Daniela asked. “It looks like you don’t want us here.”
“No, no-that’s not it.” I lied. Yes, they were bothering me.
“It’s just that uh…” I got lost in my words and tried to make up a good excuse. I canceled with them forat
reason, I couldn’t take it anymore. I missed my other friends.
“Serena, where are you?” Christian called out for me. The girls’ eyes went big as they almost pushedme aside so they could make their way inside.
“Hey, Christian!” Karina greeted him a bit too excited and touched his arm. All I was wondering waswhy a married woman was touching my man.
“Hey, brother-in-law!” Maddie smirked at Karina and pulled him into a hug while Christian seemedextremely repulsed. “Guys, let go of him-he’s not a doll,” Daniela spoke. Christian chuckled and shiftedhis attention onto me.
“Siena is asleep right now. I have to go, will you be okay?” Christian grabbed my shoulders and ignoredthe looks the other girls gave us. “Are you sure you don’t want me to take her?”
“Yes, go and do whatever you have to do. I’ll be fine!” I told him and looked back at the girls. “I havemore than enough company, I’ll survive.”
“Right.” Christian chuckled and ruffled his hand through my hair. “Okay, no kiss?” I pouted as he lookedback at the girls. “You guys have fun.” He spoke and ignored my existence before he walked out thedoor.
“Bye, Serena.” Gina smiled at me and followed after him, while all the girls eyed her until the very lastsecond.
“Is that his assistant?” Daniela asked while I gave her a nod in return. “She’s a bit too pretty to be anassistant, Daniela told me to replace Rubén an ugly assistant Karina gave her unwanted opinion.
“Chris is so hot and cold. He’s like a can of coke.” She gushed while Maddie gave her a punch againsther shoulder. “You’re a married woman, behave!”
“Let’s go to the living room so we can talk!” Daniela suggested and walked in further as if she ownedthe place. These girls were really getting on my last nerves.
“You have really good interior taste, wow.” Karina who had never been here before spoke. “Thanks, butit’s not me-it’s Christian.”
“As expected!” She clasped her hands. “Young, rich with a good taste and handsome.”
Right at that moment. Beau walked down the stairs and the girls focused on their next victim. “Hi?”Beau spoke confused. He hated people just as much as I did. We had that in common.
“You’re getting hotter by the day.” Daniela smiled and pulled him into a hug while he had a confusedlook on his face. “What is that comment and why are you hugging me? Do I know you?” He boldlyasked..
I covered my mouth and looked down as a giggle escaped from my lips. Beau was so unintentionallyrude sometimes, but sometimes it was satisfying. Daniela scoffed and brushed her hair to the side.“Daniela Sala, Isobel’s cousin? Vince’s friend? We met a few times?”
“Ah, Isobel-you guys are alike.” Beau nodded his head while the two other girls giggled. “Alike?”Daniela
scoffed.
“What’s wrong, don’t you like your cousin?” Beau chuckled. “Do you?” Daniela asked. Beau looked atme and shrugged his shoulders. “She tried to kill my sister and my niece, what’s there to like?” Hesmiled and walked past her.
Poor Daniela felt offended, but I knew my brother so I knew that the comparison to Isobel was a
compliment. He meant that Daniela was bold, shameless, and outspoken and that was true.
“So Beau, are you currently seeing anyone?” Maddie asked and joined him on the couch “You’re mybrother’s fiancée, don’t you think you’re going to far?” Beau frowned his eyebrow
“W-what, no!” Maddie exclaimed, while this time Daniela was laughing. “I was just asking because youknow-we’re siblings and all.”
“I don’t even see my brothers as my siblings so that’s a very bold statement.” Beau sighed while Ifacepalmed. “But, I’ll let you be my sister if you want to. Yeah, okay, whatever.” He shrugged afterseeing my reaction.
“So are you single?” Karina was determined to get out of him. “Because we heard you’re dating IsobelSala.”
“Who said that?” Beau laughed. “I don’t know, just people, Daniela answered.
“What people?”
Daniela had a flustered look on her face and shrugged her shoulders. “Just people from around.”
“What people from around?” He continued. “People in our circle.” Daniela rolled her eyes, and wasready to let the conversation go-but Beau wasn’t. “What people in your circle?” He chuckled.
“Beau, come on!” I laughed at his typical behavior. I still hadn’t figured out if he had it from Matteo, Lita,or himself.
“I saw the two of you leave the hospital together.” Daniela finally confessed.
“So not just people, but you,” Beau mumbled. “Anyway, we’re not together-but thanks for yourconcern.”
“Good, because that would be very degrading to Lucio and your dad after everything she’s put usthrough. The only thing my grandpa let her keep is the Sala name. Daniela smirked. It seemed likedegrading her own cousin was her favorite thing to do.
“And now we have to move on to the next subject,” Daniela smirked and turned her head towards me.“I heard you, Lucio and Christian are having dinner with the Orlando’s tomorrow.”
“Wow, you guys are moving like tabloids.” I gulped at her words. It hadn’t even been a whole day yet.
“Of course we do, I came here right away because Dario Orlando has been telling everyone that you’reextremely loyal to Christian,” Daniela told me and turned her phone to show me a text. “My friend toldme, so we came here to get the story!”
“You girls are like a bunch of ants, you move really fast and come in large portions,” Beau commentedwhile Daniela rolled her eyes.
“I heard he’s extremely handsome and gives Christian a run for his money, literally. Did you really toldhim off?” Karina asked.
“I guess?” I spoke confused. It wasn’t even a big deal, I did what every single person who had a partnerwas supposed to do, and rejected him.
“No one says no to him, I think you’re the first.” Maddie giggled. “Apparently he always gets what he
wants.
“Yes, Christian really hates him-so he definitely won’t let him get away with this,” Karina added.
“Neither will I, she has a ring around her finger,” Beau spoke.
The three girls’ eyes immediately moved to my ring as they all gasped. “That ring is even bigger thanthe last one, look at that!” Maddie pouted and touched my ring while the other girls did the same.
The only thing I could think about was Christian. His reaction must’ve been so dry because he alreadyheard everything.
I knew Christian was overprotective and wouldn’t let this go, that was out of character and nothing likehim.
I did not know what he had planned, but one thing was for sure. I was not looking forward to tomorrow’sdinner.
Behind that calm act of his, there was a lot of unfinished business.
