Chapter 39

He did not answer Leo's question, but asked him, "Don't you like Lauren? Why don't you call her these days?"

Leo was staring at his father, but after hearing this question, he suddenly became sad as if he remembered something bad. Charlie was very surprised. "Why was Leo sad?" Charlie thought in surprise. Leo thought for a while and then said to Charlie, "I miss Lauren very much, but..." He lowered his head and looked a little

hesitant.

day.

"But what?" Charlie took Leo into his arms and asked him.

"But Lauren doesn't like you," Leo said with sadness, "If I she could be my mom, I will be very happy. But she does not like you." Charlie was a little embarrassed and he gritted his teeth, saying, "How do you know that she doesn't like me?"

"I just know it!" Leo crossed his arms, and suddenly became excited, "She was not happy with you that day."

Though Leo was just four year old and he didn't know what was going on between adults, he was aware of Lauren's anger that

Charlie didn't say anything for a long time, as if he didn't believe this was what Leo said. He looked at Leo for a while. It wasn't until Leo stood up that Charlie came back to his senses. He held his son and put him on the sofa, sitting side by side with Leo.

Charlie tilted his head and thought for a while. He explained, "I didn't make Lauren angry."

Leo also tilted his little head, not very convinced.

Charlie continued, "I just started to know Lauren, so we were not very close yet. She just didn't know what to talk about with me.

That didn't mean she didn't like me."

"Really?" Leo was ready to trust his father.

"Yes." Leo's expression was serious and he said, "If you don't believe it, you can call her and ask her if she likes me."

Leo lowered his head and hesitated.

Seeing this, Charlie continued to say, "Are you worrying that Lauren would be unhappy when she sees me? If you are, then you should ask her if she likes me. If she says that she doesn't like me, we will never bother her again."

Leo touched his little feet, frowning and thinking.

"You can call her now," Charlie persuaded his son to call Lauren, "If you don't call her right now, she will be busy later." Hearing this, Leo immediately called Lauren again.

Receiving the call from Leo again, Lauren was a little surprised.

Leo was silent for a long time, and then asked Lauren carefully. "Lauren, is it true that you don't like my dad?"

"Why did Leo ask this question?" Lauren was confused and she didn't expect that this four-year-old boy would be so sensitive. He could actually detect her emotions.

Lauren was always very soft-hearted when she faced Leo and she herself didn't know why. The moment Lauren remembered that Leo had no mother since he was little, she felt sad for him. So she quickly replied, "That's not true! I like your father very much." Lauren just wanted to comfort Leo. But after Charlie who overheard his son's phone call heard it, his whole body was full of

happiness.

Hearing this, Leo was relieved and said goodbye to Lauren before hanging up the phone.

"I told you that Lauren won't hate me. She likes me," Charlie smiled brightly and his face showed delight.
