CHAPTER XCVI

The thought of Sophia being the only one who could turn him on made her hate the girl.

"Aren't you supposed to be with me tonight?" She asked, moving closer to him. "It's our wedding night, and we should be -"

Chase cut her off. "You won't give me the pleasure I want, Saige," He replied. "Only Sophia does,"

His words struck her like an arrow straight to the chest, and her knees buckled.

How could the man she just newly married openly tell her on their wedding night that she couldn't give him the pleasure he wanted? How could he even tell her a barely twenty year old girl was the only one who could give him pleasure? "What-," Her throat clogged up. "What do you mean?"

"Look, Saige," Chase sighed. "What you want is not going to be possible because there would be no satisfaction in having sex with you. I only replace satisfaction with Sophia. Only us both can give each other what we want," "Are you saying you're going to have sex with her on our wedding night?" She asked. "This night is meant for the both of us. She can't come between us!"

"I understand what this night means to you, but it's already bad that I don't replace any meaning in it with you," He said.

"But I love you," She whispered, clutching his collar in her fists. "I love you, Chase, and I wish to spend this night with no one but you,"

"Loving me will only hurt you, Saige," Chase held both of her wrists and gently dropped them by her sides. "I can't love you back,"

"Then do you love her?" Tears brimmed in her eyes. "Do you love Sophia?"

"Even if I do, it won't make a difference, Saige," He said. "Your wish has always been to be married to me, and here we are. I don't want you expecting more from me. Go to bed. Goodnight,"

Luciano gulped down the contents of the vodka bottle down his throat, hoping to drown away his miseries, but they seemed to intensify the more he remembered how fragile Sophia had looked while sleeping and calling out to Chase. "Don't marry her, please. I -I love you,"

When he had taken her to her room when she was asleep and was about to leave, she had held his wrists and muttered those words. It didn't take a minute for him to know who she thought he was. Worse still, he didn't need a genius to tell him she was in love with Chase.

The girl he loved was in love with his cousin.

Did Chase love her back? Did Chase know about her feelings?

A pained laugh left his lips as he stared at the pool with a similar pained expression at his own foolish questions.

Obviously, Chase must've known how she felt about him. Even the way he seemed protective and possessive of her was enough to tell Luciano that Chase loved her.

That explained the vacation they had gone for two weeks before. They must've finally realized how they felt about each other and needed time alone from everyone. "Luci,"

Luciano turned at the sound of his brother's voice. "Hey, Lucas,"

Lucas walked closer to him and frowned. "Why are you drinking?"

"I want to forget my sorrows, Lucas," He replied.

"What's the matter?" Lucas sat next to him.

Luciano dropped his head, and his lips formed into a pout. "She loves someone else. She doesn't love me," Lucas' chest tightened as the realization of Luciano's words settled in. "She loves Don, doesn't she?" "Hmmmm,"

A small smile crept up Lucas' lips. "He's the best person for her. She is the best for him also. Don is changing," "And me?" Luciano looked at his twin in the eyes. "What about me? Am I not fucking good enough for her?" "No,"

Luciano's heart sank. "Why?"

Lucas replied. "Because you both aren't meant to be,"

Luciano stood up and glared at his brother. "What the hell are you saying? Can't you see how I love her? I thought you could fucking see and understand how I feel,"

Lucas stood up too and faced his brother. "I understand how you feel, Luciano, but you also have to understand that Sophia is not for you. You can't love her,"

"I don't even understand you again," Luciano chuckled dryly. "When she came here, you were all rude and mean to her. Now you care. You even care about who can and can't love her. What's your fucking problem?" "You're drunk," Lucas replied. "It's late. We'll talk tomorrow,"

"I might be drunk, but I can still understand what the fuck you're saying!" Luciano snapped, frustration gnawing at him. "What do you mean by I can't love her? It's my heart and I'll chose who it falls for. My heart wants Sophia," Lucas was already beginning to lose his temper. "You can't love her, Luciano, " He seethed out. "Don't you fucking understand what I'm saying?"

"Explain shit to me and I'll understand," Luciano said, flinging the vodka bottle into the pool. "Tell me why I can't love her,"

"I can't tell you shit, Luciano," Lucas raked his fingers through his hair. "Just go to bed and stop thinking about someone that can't be yours,"

That seemed to enrage Luciano and he gripped Lucas by the collar sneering on his face. "I love Sophia. Don't ever try to talk me out of my feelings," Lucas pushed Luciano away harshly. "Are you fucking insane?"

"Yes!" Luciano snapped. "I'm fucking insane because I'm in love,"

"Don't you get it, Luciano?" Lucas asked, anger looming over his features. "You'll end up getting hurt!"

"Why the fuck will I get hurt?"

"Because what you feel for her is forbidden," Lucas balled his fists at his sides. "You aren't meant to love her! Sophia is not someone you can love!" "Why?" Luciano urged. "Why can't I fucking love-,"

Lucas cut him off. "Because she's our fucking sister, Luciano!" That seemed to shut Luciano up. "Sophia is our sister! She's the sister we thought we lost with mum,"

Silence followed. The two brothers stared at each other, the sound of their heavy breathing filling the ear.

None of them broke eye contact. One was trying to call himself down and think of an explanation for spilling out the truth and the other was searching for a hint of lie in his brother's words. He was desperately trying to understand what he just heard as blood rushed to his ears.

They stood there, unaware of the person standing in the shadows, watching them.

She had heard every single word uttered by the both of them from the beginning of their heated argument to the end where a secret was mistakenly spilled.

A secret that was sure to change her life.
