I Am Unstoppable -
Chapter 317
Chapter 317
Jonathan's expression changed suddenly, and he jumped in alarm. “No way! If we do that, are we notsending the cacodemon to die? The people in Thymion are terrified of cacodemons. They wouldn'ttreat it with mercy and compassion.”
“However, that's our only option. Neither of us is capable of dealing with the cacodemon now, so wehave to send it to Thymion,” Jeff uttered.
Jonathan ignored Jeff and turned toward Mabel. “Do you think so as well?”
Mabel smiled bitterly and answered, “Chief Yount and I are working for the country, Jonathan. We can'tact on our emotions like you do.”
Fury filled Jonathan's eyes when he said, “I'll bring the cacodemon away!”
Jeff voiced out. “Jonathan, please don't act rashly. We're having a discussion, aren't we? If you can'taccept my suggestion, we can just forget about it. However, there's one condition. You must take thecacodemon with you and leave Chanaea. You can also bring it to a tropical jungle in another country. Ithink it's probably going to live more comfortably there.” Jeff paused and continued, “Having said that, Idon't think that'll do the cacodemon any good. Everyone has their own fate, and the same can be saidabout cacodemons. No matter how hard we try, there are things we can never change.”
Jonathan calmed down upon hearing that. “Okay. Please make the arrangement for me. I'll leave withthe cacodemon tonight.”
“Sure!” Jeff nodded.
Jonathan then rose to his feet and left Jeff's office. I can't blame Jeff and Mabel. After all, everyone hastheir own opinion and reason for doing things differently. Still, I'm not comfortable with the fact that evenMabel agreed with the suggestion of getting rid of the cacodemon.
Jonathan went back to Zoe's bedroom and saw the cacodemon nestling in the woman's arms themoment he entered the room.
The cacodemon got out of bed when it saw Jonathan entering the bedroom and called him “Daddy” in aloving manner. In response, Jonathan picked the cacodemon up. He would always remember theconversation the cacodemon had with the Lone Demon Beast before the latter died. The cacodemonand the Lone Demon Beast were both mystical creatures, so they were incredibly insightful. When theLone Demon Beast said the cacodemon shouldn't be saving humans, the cacodemon stated that itwould never let anyone harm its mother. Jonathan was touched because of the cacodemon'sdedication.
Since the cacodemon is willing to do whatever it takes to protect me, I should also save it and forgetabout the fact that it's a monster and whether it's capable of causing chaos. Zoe's eyes brimmed withgratefulness when she saw Jonathan. “Thank you for saving my son, Mr. Lawson.”
Jonathan flashed her a faint smile and replied, “Well, it saved me. Perhaps this is fate.”
Elated, Zoe said, “Nevertheless, I'm just happy it's still alive.”
“But Zoe, I need to bring the cacodemon away,” Jonathan uttered.
Zoe's face went pale when she heard that. “Why? Where are you bringing it to?”
“Please remember the fact that cacodemons can't coexist with humans. Neither Thymion nor ourcountry would let the matter slide. Hence, I'm planning to bring it to a tropical forest overseas. That'swhere it belongs.”
“But...” Obviously, Zoe was reluctant to part with the cacodemon.
“As long as it's still alive, you guys can still see each other,” Jonathan said.
Zoe knew what Jonathan said made sense. She then embraced the cacodemon and nodded, agreeingwith Jonathan's suggestion.
Although the cacodemon couldn't speak fluently, it was smart, and it had amazing comprehensionskills.
Jonathan couldn't really trust Jeff, so he brought the cacodemon out of Pearl Building and made it puton some clothes and a cap. That way, no one would notice anything peculiar about it.
Right before Jonathan started driving, Mabel rushed up to them and sat in the back seat.
The moment Mabel got into the car, the cacodemon bared its teeth ferociously.
Jonathan didn't utter a word when he saw that.
Instead, Mabel took the initiative to say, “Jonathan, I'll arrange a private flight to a tropical jungle inNorham in the afternoon. Military operations are frequently carried out there, so Thymionians wouldn'tdare to go there. It's safe.”
“Thanks!” Jonathan answered.
“Now, let's go back to my place first,” Mabel uttered.
“Okay.” Jonathan had no problem with that, and he started the car.
Mabel didn't bother explaining herself because she knew why Jonathan was mad.
At five in the afternoon, Jonathan and Mabel brought the cacodemon to Yaleview International Airport.
Jonathan and the cacodemon boarded the private plane, and Mabel quickly followed suit.
“Why are you here as well?” Jonathan was surprised.
Mabel merely smiled faintly in response. “The cacodemon is my life savior, so I need to send it off.”
Hearing that, Jonathan went silent.
Shortly after, the private plane took off and soared into the sky. There, the passengers saw themesmerizing horizon that showcased the beauty of their home country.
“Silly!” Mabel suddenly knocked on Jonathan's head.
Jonathan was baffled.
Mabel laughed and said, “Did you really think I was that heartless? The cacodemon saved my life! How
could I agree to let the Thymionians kill it?”
Still confused, the cacodemon and Jonathan stared blankly at Mabel.
“Jeff isn't a bad guy, but he has his principles. There was no way we could change his mind. He hadalready discreetly contacted the officials in Thymion. He was planning to send us straight to theenemies. Although he didn't tell me his plans, I knew what was on his mind,” Mabel explained.
Jonathan drew back in shock. What the f*ck? And I thought I was smart! I'm practically as innocent asa lamb in front of Jeff.
“Are you saying that you were pretending to be on Jeff's side?” Jonathan was over the moon when herealized what was going on. I would be so sad if Mabel turned out to be a cruel and heartless person. Ifshe was, that would mean we would never see eye to eye.
“Of course!” Mabel responded, annoyed.
At that moment, the cacodemon was less hostile toward Mabel.
“What should we do now?” Jonathan asked.
“I made the arrangement for this private plane, so I've already set the course. We're going to Olswickinstead of Norham,” Mabel replied.
Jonathan let out a sigh of relief.
A second later, Jonathan asked, “Have you considered the consequences, though? If the cacodemonharms Thymion in the future, we're going to get punished.”
“I've already gotten a second chance at life. Why should I be afraid?” Mabel smiled.
“Okay, then. I'm relieved,” Jonathan answered and smiled.
Mabel seemed emotional as she said, “After experiencing such a fatal catastrophe, I came tounderstand a lot of things. Human lives are fragile and short. Instead of trying to achieve things in life,it's better to just live life to the fullest. Prior to this, I lived with too many constraints. Whatever I didback then, I did it for the country. From now on, however, I'm going to live my life as easily and freely aspossible. When I'm going through difficulties, my friends are the ones helping me and showing meconcern. If I die, the ones that would cry for me are my friends and family. In other words, I know what'simportant in life now.”
Jonathan smiled in response. That has always been my perspective on life. So, we're like-mindedpeople.
Still wearing a smile on his face, Jonathan said, “I thought you were so touched that you were going tomarry me!”
Mabel rolled her eyes at him and snapped, “You wish!”
Jonathan chuckled. After their lighthearted banter, the atmosphere became relaxed and harmoniousonce more.
The cacodemon was tilting its head and darting its gaze around when it looked at Mabel. At that
moment, it was no longer hostile toward her. In fact, there was even a hint of affection in its gaze, and itallowed her to pat its head.
The cacodemon appeared to be a sensitive creature, and it could sense if a person was sincere towardit or not.
At the same time, Jonathan's mood had lightened up. “I replace something extremely odd. The cacodemonis little, but it can transform into something that's around the same size as the Lone Demon Beast,” heuttered. This is real life instead of a movie scene. How is something like that possible?
He then asked Mabel, “Where do you think it's hiding its huge body? Also, the Lone Demon Beasttransformed into a humanoid figure when it was dying.”
Mabel couldn't help but flash a wry smile. “I have no idea! You should ask Jeff that question because Ithink he knows more about it.”
Jonathan was disappointed.
Right then, the cacodemon reached out its hand, and it wanted to touch Jonathan's forehead.
However, Jonathan was too tall for it to do so.
Seeing that, Jonathan picked the cacodemon up.
Subsequently, the cacodemon touched Jonathan's forehead with its finger, and all of a sudden,Jonathan experienced some changes in his mind. Right then, it was as if the cacodemon and Jonathanwere somehow connected.
A few moments later, comprehension dawned on Jonathan. He then put the cacodemon back downand exclaimed, “Oh, I see!”
Mabel's interest was piqued, and she asked, “What just happened?”
“The body structure of cacodemons is different from that of us humans. Every cell in them is mutated, and a lot of those cells are similar to Beatrix's spatial ring because they have spaces within them. When we cultivate, our cells will gradually absorb nutrients. That's how our bodies grow stronger. However, we can never be physically as strong as these creatures. That's a limitation set by HeavenlyLaw. Therefore, we can only develop our minds to form mana and achieve the state of having infinitemana.” Jonathan paused and continued, “Things are different with cacodemons. A cacodemoncultivates its body, and when it reaches a certain level, it'll become unimaginably strong. If needed, itcan also mutate all the cells in its body. Once the cells are mutated, the cacodemon will becomestronger physically. Meanwhile, both the cacodemon and Lone Demon Beast can transform intohumanoid figures. This is because...”
