I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin) -
Chapter 281
Chapter 281 Dole Out
Jack said, "If you talk to Benjamin, he'll say yes. You're carrying his baby now, so he'll definitely say yes."
"I'm not going to use my children to get what I want. The Martin Group's termination of contract with the Mitchell Group is between the two companies. You shouldn't have to come to me, but start solving the problem from within the Mitchell Group." Harper had asked Benjamin and knew that he wasn't terminating his contract with the Mitchell family because they were getting divorced. If it were for her, she would have already mentioned resuming the partnership with Benjamin.
But since it wasn't because of her, she wouldn't mention it, much less use the baby to force Benjamin.
Harper's adamant attitude pissed off both Jack and Jennifer.
They ended up in a heated argument, but the whole time, it was Jack and Jennifer who blamed Harper.
Eventually, even Eleanor came out.
Eleanor looked at them and asked with some displeasure, "Is this how you do parenting?"
Jennifer and Jack then shut up and left without staying any longer.
They didn't even speak to Eleanor, leaving Harper feeling sad and angry.
She helped Eleanor sit down, then whispered soothingly, "Don't mind them, Grandma. They..."
"Are you afraid I'm going to be sad?" Eleanor interrupted her, "I'm not that fragile. I'm too old to think that much. I just want you to be well right now. As for the rest, I don't care!" "I know you love me the most."
"Okay, I'm tired. I'm going back to rest!" Eleanor pushed Harper's head straight away with some disgust on her face.
Harper froze, somewhat hurt.
After Eleanor left, her eyes became more despondent. The behavior of Jack and Jennifer made her feel quite ridiculous.
She thought, "I still overestimated them.
What I didn't want to happen still happened.
So what else is there for me to remember?"
Jack and Jennifer didn't give up. After realizing that they couldn't convince Harper, Jack went straight to the Martin Group to replace Benjamin.
Benjamin told Harper about it when he got back in the evening, and Harper asked him directly, "Would it be good for the Martin Group to continue working with the Mitchell Group?" "No!"
Benjamin glanced at Harper, understanding what she meant, but ultimately chose to answer truthfully.
"In that case, just follow the normal procedures of the Martin Group. I don't want you to dole out to me and the Mitchell family because of the baby. After all, even if you did, I wouldn't thank you." "Dole out? You have a way with words. Don't you think you're being cruel when you say that?"
"Am I cruel?"
Harper looked at him. She didn't
think she was cruel because it wasn't a small matter but something between two corporations. More than anything, she didn't want to use her unborn child to gain advantage.
She thought, "So what's wrong with me being blunt?"
Faced with her rational decision, Benjamin subconsciously narrowed his eyes slightly and asked in a low voice, "You just don't want me to
work with the Mitchell Group for the
sake of the kid or you don't want to feel like you owe me for this?"
"Does it make a difference?"
"Of course. The former is your concern, while the latter is reluctant because you're afraid of owing me."
"But isn't the result the same for both?" Harper looked at him, her eyes calm and her tone devoid of much emotion. She said, "Benjamin it doesn't really matter what I think about this, because you're the one who makes the final decision. You're making the decision from the perspective of the Martin-Group, not from the perspective of our relationship as a couple. So whether you say the former or the latter is
irrelevant to me."
Harper's extreme rationality left Benjamin in silence.
He couldn't quite understand whether she was analyzing this rationally because she didn't want to bother him or for some other reason. This topic wasn't being continued. If it had gone on any longer, they probably would have had another disagreement of a different kind.
However, Benjamin suddenly thought of something. He gazed deeply at Harper and asked in a low voice, "Are you mad at me, so you're upset?"
