I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin) -
Chapter 99
Chapter 99 Surprise
But Paul stopped responding.
He knew Benjamin was smart. She thought Benjamin probably had guessed out a part. Paul planned to discuss it with Harper. He always referred to her opinion. Benjamin stopped asking further questions. He thought that Paul was happy and wanted to praise him.
After ending the call, he leaned on the leather office chair calmly, half-closing his eyes. Harper's confused and shocked face appeared in his mind.
She was shocked the moment she learned he announced their marriage in public.
She couldn't believe he would do it.
Benjamin couldn't help but laugh. "What am I like in her heart?"
Her reaction was not as happy as he expected. Was it because she worried that her ex-boyfriend would see her?
The more Benjamin thought about it, the colder his eyes became.
It was 7 p.m.
Benjamin arrived at the Martin Manor.
Before he entered the room, he could already hear the laughter inside. When he stepped into the entrance hall, he saw Harper's face with a heartfelt smile. Her red lips were uttering. "Grandpa, I'm happy to see you happy."
Paul smiled, "I'm happy because you and Benjamin get along well. It seems our family will become more and more harmonious."
Scott also nodded. Lily was cooking in the kitchen. She seldom cooked.
At this moment, Benjamin felt the family's warmth. There was no conspiracy or depression, only simple joy from warmth and harmony.
He wish this could continue forever.
He arched an eyebrow and imagine sweet life.
"Mr. Martin? You're here."
Just as Benjamin was lost in thought, Lily walked out from the kitchen carrying fruit plates.
Paul waved to him with a rare smile. "Come and sit."
Benjamin then walked over, and Paul poured a cup of coffee for him.
"Grandpa, since when you are so good to me?"
"Don't joke on me. You just did one thing right."
"So should I appreciate Harper?"
"Of course." Paul nodded.
Benjamin also smiled and looked at the silent woman sitting aside. The two looked at each other, and there seemed to be something chemical flowing in the air.
She seemed to see a question in his deep eyes. "Have you figured out the reason?"
Harper instinctively looked away.
Benjamin's voice slowly sounded in the next second. "Grandpa, I would like to thank you. But Harper seems to be unhappy because of me revealing our marriage to the public. Since I came tonight, she even didn't talk to me."
Harper looked at Benjamin and didn't believe he said so.
In this year of marriage, he was indeed gentle and considerate enough. But at that moment, she felt he was a total stranger.
He tilted his head and stared at her with confidence.
Harper quickly looked at Paul. "Grandpa, I..."
"You should reflect on yourself if she didn't want to talk to you. Harper is so kind and well-behaved. If she can't stand you, you must have done something annoying her."
Paul backed up Harper unconditionally.
Benjamin smiled helplessly, "Grandpa, you're biased towards her."
"I just believe Harper more."
"Shall I leave?"
Benjamin made fun of himself. Scott and Lily laughed.
Lily also asked, "Harper, you don't want Benjamin to announce your marriage publicly?"
Harper looked at Lily and she smiled slightly, "No, maybe it was just too sudden that I didn't get used to it."
"You'll get used to it over time. Harper, you don't know how happy I am today. Many ladies sent messages to compliment your beauty. They admired our family to have you!" The more Lily talked, the happier she became, and the eyes she looked at Harper became more loving.
Harper smiled slightly and felt humbled.
A few minutes later, the servant came over and told the dinner was ready.
Benjamin asked, "Grandpa, You said you wanted to give me a surprise. What is it?"
Paul looked at Harper and then said calmly, "Let's eat first."
Then Paul gave Scott a look and then heard Scott say, "Benjamin, will the Martin Group invest in a movie next quarter?"
Benjamin understood the hint from Paul and Scott's gaze. He then submissively followed Scott and Lily to the kitchen. There were only left Paul and Harper.
After the three of them entered the
kitchen, Raul asked her in a low voice, "Harper, now that Benjamin has announced you're married to him. Have you ever thought about telling him about the baby?"
Harper was startled.
She was silent for a moment with a solemn expression, and then said, "Grandpa, I need a little more time."
"Harper, do you have any ideas?"
"No." She shook her head. "I just don't think it's the perfect time."
"Are you worried about what happened between him and that woman, Lauren?"
Paul asked in a low voice.
Harper shook her head and asked, "Grandpa, are you going to tell Benjamin today?"
"That's what I plan to do, but since you don't want to, I won't say it."
"I'm sorry if I let you down. I don't have any other intentions. It's just that I'm conflicted and I want to think about it seriously."
Paul agreed and comforted her not to feel burdened.
Harper did want to tell him, but once she said it, she and Benjamin would be bound anyhow.
She was unwilling to be with a man who loved someone else all her life for the sake of her child, and she did not want her child to be born in such an environment. She would rather raise the child alone.
It was good for everyone.
Benjamin didn't get the surprise after dinner, now he was ready to go back to the Pineview Villa.
Benjamin couldn't help but ask, "Grandpa, where's my surprise?"
Paul did not respond to him.
"Didn't you say there was a surprise?"
"It depends on your performance. Your performance is not enough for this surprise."
Benjamin frowned, and then he spontaneously looked at Harper.
Paul said, "It's getting late. Take Harper back to rest early."
Then Paul made an excuse and went back to his room. Benjamin didn't ask any questions.
On the way back, Benjamin and Harper sat in the back seat.
There was silence at first. Nearly half the distance home, Benjamin lowered his head and looked at Harper, asking in a low voice, "What did Grandpa tell you? Did he tell you the 'surprise'?"
