I Refuse to Divorce! -
Chapter 63
Mason drove back to the villa.
The housekeepers were surprised to see him, unaware of Zoe beinghospitalized. They assumed he had gone on a business trip.
One of the housekeepers opened the car door.
"Are you back for dinner, sir? The kitchen didn't know that you wereback, so it might take an hour for them to prepare something."
Mason, looking slightly fatigued, replied, "Just prepare something light.”The housekeeper hurried off to arrange it.
Mason got out of the car, entered the villas hall, and found it well-maintained, even after his absence for a few days.
Mason, who had been busy all night, prepared to go upstairs for a quickshower. However, as soon as he opened the door to the masterbedroom, he saw a large wedding photo hanging at the bedside.
In the picture, Zoe smiled sweetly, radiating happiness.
They got married in a haste. He did not like her, so he refused to takepictures. Therefore, she spent a hundred thousand to have this photocompose
When they married hastily, and he, not fond of her, refused to takepictures, she spent 800,000 dollars to have this photo composed.Mason chuckled at her self-deception.
Zoe claimed he looked handsome. When she said he looked good, hereyes sparkled. Now, she cried and begged him to let her go, accusinghim of hating her. She declared she no longer wanted to torment eachother and desired a normal life, free from being Mrs. Lockwood.Mason felt Zoe wasn't entirely wrong.
Even now, he hadn't forgiven her.
He couldn't forgive her. She wanted to leave when he couldn't let go.Mason stood at the foot of the bed, gazing at the photo for a long time. Then, he entered the dressing room to get a robe for a shower. He tooka very long time looking for it. Life without Zoe felt unusual for him.
He vaguely felt he cared too much about Zoe.
Even hatred had become a matter of too much concern.
In the past, when they lived together, she would sway in front of himevery day. She would even lie on his bed every night, subjecting herselfto his whims.
However, during work, he didn't think of her. When he slept, she didn'tcross his mind. He didn't care if she cried or not.
He cared too much.
For Mason, it wasn't something to be happy about.
Especially since it was Zoe, the woman he had loathed for three years. After showering, the housekeeper hadn't finished preparing the meal.Mason leaned against the dressing table, which Zoe usually sat at, litacigarette, and smoked quietly.
Zoe left, and she didn't take anything with her.
The dressing table was filled with bottles and jars. He remembered shespent almost half an hour here every night, preparing. That was whyshe had such delicate and smooth skin.
Mason looked around for a while and then opened a small drawer, curious about its contents.
To his surprise, it wasn't skincare products but a pale pink diary, thickand seemingly aged.
Mason opened it gently.
The diary was filled with tiny, densely packed words, all expressing 18-year-old Zoe's fondness for Mason. The expressions werestraightforward, passionate, and filled with naivety.
"Mr. Mason didn't even look at me today!"
"He didn't even glance at the dessert I gave him. Does he hate me?""He hates me. Why did he lend me his coat when I dirtied my skirt withmy blood... Does he secretly like me? I don't care. Mr. Mason willdefinitely like me tomorrow!"
Mason flipped through to the last page. The date was the day when theSanders family went bankrupt, and Noah was sent to prison.
Mason remembered that day. Zoe received a call, her eyes misty, andshe whispered unconsciously, "Mason."
He knew she wanted to ask for help.
However, she couldn't speak when faced with the indifference in theirmarriage.
She could only use her helpless gaze to beg for her husband's mercy. That day, Mason happened to be leaving for a business trip toHucksburgh.
