I'm Your Sister, Brother Chow -
Chapter 24: The Night Bar
Cindy was reluctant to let Vivian sit with Hudson, but since she had clearly expressed that she didn't want to sit with her, it was too late to take it back.
"What's the big deal? It's just exchanging seats!" Cindy scoffed arrogantly and exchanged her seat with Hudson.
Hudson moved the table closer to Vivian's and sat down next to her.
The next bell finally rang. Everyone went back to their seats and quietened down.
Vivian looked like she didn't care about the changes around her. Her eyes stayed unwavering on her textbooks.
It was English period next. The teacher padded into class after a short while.
After all, they were already in their last year of high school. Nothing else was more important than their studies. As the teacher dove into her topic of the day, everyone paid close attention to her. Finally escaping attention from the crowd, Vivian's stiff shoulders relaxed as she hunched over in her chair.
She was just a 17-year-old girl. She didn't want to get used to the growing gossip around her.
As the teacher got them to read a passage aloud from their textbook, Hudson took the opportunity to whisper to the girl next to him. "Vivian, are you okay?"
Vivian was stunned for a moment. Then, she shook her head softly.
She was not used to telling anyone else about her problems. Although Hudson had always been around her since she entered this class, she still hadn't told him much about herself.
She recognised the gaze in Hudson's eyes because she was secretly in love with Chow herself.
Since there was no way she could reciprocate his feelings, she didn't want to give him any false hopes.
After seeing Vivian's reaction, a trace of excitement flashed across Hudson's eyes.
He clenched his fists and continued asking Vivian softly. "That Chow, he's forcing you to do this, isn't he? I know you're not like this. You're a good girl, it's the others who are bad!" Vivian was shocked by his words. She finally allowed the tears in her eyes to roll down her cheeks.
Ever since her mother and Uncle Dylan passed away, nobody else had ever called her a good girl.
As time went by, even she herself began to doubt that she was a good person.
Was she still a good girl like Hudson said she was?
Good girls didn't covet other people's boyfriends.
She didn't deserve to be called a good girl.
If Chow was a demon, then her heart had already fallen into the demon's embrace.
Vivian wiped away the tears on her cheeks and turned to look at Hudson. "I'm sorry, but in the future, can you stay away from me?"
Hudson was astonished. Disappointment flashed in his eyes briefly. "Why? Aren't we friends?"
Yes, he was a friend. Before what happened today, Vivian thought that she could still have him as a friend.
But after hearing Chow's warning to Hudson, she realised that she was too naive.
Chow would never allow her to have male friends.
Whether it was to save Hudson or herself, it was better that they kept a safe distance from each other.
Vivian bit her lower lip and smiled sadly at Hudson. "I'm sorry, but you must stay away from me."
"Why? Did he threaten you? Does he not allow you to get close to me?" Hudson naturally shifted the blame onto Chow.
Vivian shook her head, her nails digging into her palm painfully. "No, he didn't. I just don't want him to misunderstand, because I love him."
Love was probably the most irrational thing in the world.
Otherwise, how could she fall in love with the man who wanted to take everything away from her?
Vivian avoided Hudson's shocked gaze for the rest of the day, not looking in his direction again.
After school, her usual driver waited for her right at the school gates, most probably under Chow's orders.
Vivian entered the car with a lowered head as everyone else looked on. Peter, the driver, quickly started up the car and drove off.
Vivian only lifted her gaze after a long time. She suddenly realised that she was no longer familiar with the scenery outside her window. Surprised, she asked her driver, "Aren't we going home?"
Peter answered her with a respectful nod. "Young Master has instructed me to bring you to him."☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
