Immortals Of Byolla Bay -
Chapter 10 – Kinsley
Walking to school with him was like a dream. Every time I felt like this was real I got sad thinking I would wake up any second, but I never did. He kept asking me questions about my life, what’s the town like and other things about the houses here. I tried to be more descriptive than I was yesterday when I told him about our town and the high school.
When I mentioned the school my heart dropped a little. I know I’m just the first person he’s met here, but he looks way too good to not be popular and as soon as we walk in the girls are going to flock to him. That will be the end of our walks together I just know it. I’m sure he was a
football player and dated the head cheerleader at his old school. Here we are too small to actually have competing sports, but the boys get together and play football in a clearing by the docks. I’m sure he’ll be invited and be dating one of Analya’s sidekicks by tomorrow or Analya herself.
Then out of the blue he asks me what I do for fun. I thought about lying for a second and telling him I party every weekend, but once he gets acquainted with the popular boys they will tell him how I never ever get an invite to anything they do. He’ll definitely never want to talk to a liar.
I opted for my best answer and just tell him the truth. His reaction blew me away. This bleach blonde Adonis loves to read and is a homebody. No, there is no way that’s remotely even possible. He must be just trying to make me feel like I’m not that pathetic.
I seen the same girl that was in his yard yesterday standing at the edge of the woods with her arms crossed. She was a blonde bombshell with her hair falling in loose curls around her face, crystal blue eyes and full lips. He introduced me to his sister, whose name was Maggie, and she smiled cordially. Is everyone in their family hot?
She asked in a way too proper manner if I would show them around school and that’s when I realized Rikki speaks exactly the same. They both have slight accents that I cannot place and neither of them speak like a normal high school kid. I guess where they come from that is normal to them. Oh well. I brushed the thought off and walked into the cafeteria.
Just like I feared, everybody turned to stare at them as they walked in behind me. The guys whistled at Maggie as the girls mouths were dropped at the hotness that is Rikki. I felt my face turn red as I made my way through the crowd to the adjoining hallway where I could show Rikki and Maggie to the front office to get their schedules.
We almost made it to the office door when I heard the purr of the main girl I was hoping not to run in to, “Well look at you. We don’t have any boys as cute as you here so you must be the new guy. I’m Analya Forthrope. You may have heard of me already or at least my last name.” She walked right between Rikki and I as if I didn’t even exist.
Rikki looked disgusted and took a step back towards his sister, who looked equally disgusted. Analya noticed Maggie finally and apparently didn’t like that she had competition, “Are you his girlfriend?” She asked with her hands on her hips. Maggie shook her head, “No I’m his sister, Mag..” Analya cut Maggie off after she heard the sister part, “Oh good! Well then why don’t I take you on a tour of our school?”
She reached out for his arm, but Rikki quickly dodged and said, “Thank you, but Kinsley is doing a great job at showing us the school already.” I cannot believe this beautiful boy just turned her down. I thought for sure he’d have done what every other boy probably would and walked off into the sunset with her.
Analya’s eyes darted to mine and narrowed them, “Are you sure about that? Because I know the students a little more than she does and I can introduce you to the people who actually matter.” Analya has never been turned down. This remark made Rikki tense up then he reached out to put his arm around my shoulder, “I think I’ll stick with Kinsley. Good day.”
When his fingers touched the skin on my arm I felt like he set it on fire. It wasn’t painful, it felt wonderful. Yesterday when he stopped me from falling, I thought my skin tingled because of the impact of me running into him and my embarrassment, but this feeling is a little more stronger than that.
He moved his arm after Analya stormed off in a fit of rage from being rejected and I almost grabbed it just so I could feel the blazing heat again. Maggie turned to look at me, “So is that girl always that rude or is this just a bad day for her?” I smiled and shook my head, “No she’s always like that and I’m afraid since Rikki just invoked her wrath by rejecting her that it’s going to get a little worse than usual today.”
Maggie laughed, “Anything that wench thinks she can throw at me please tell her to do it. I’m not scared of her and neither should you be. Girls like her thrive on attention and are as replaceable as guitar strings. No guy with his head screwed on straight wants a girl that everyone has already had. Now, I believe you were taking us into whatever room this is behind us?” I smiled big at Maggie. She has no idea how much those words just meant to me.
After watching painfully as Ms. Tomkin shamelessly flirted and batted her eyes at Rikki, then leaned over the desk to reveal more of her body than I ever cared to see in my lifetime, we left the front office with both of their schedules in hand. “Am I going to be getting unwanted advances all day from students and apparently teachers, too?”
I laughed, “We haven’t had new people here in our town in over twenty years so you guys are kind of a big deal right now. So who do you guys have first period?” Maggie squinted at her paper, “I have coach Ronald for Health. Is that in the gym?” I nodded, “Yeah, there’s three rooms, two are locker rooms and the other one is the Health room. The door is usually always open so it is easy to replace. Do you want me to show you where it is?” She shook her head, “No I think I can replace it, thank you girl. If that wench with the oversized chest gives you any trouble let me know, okay?” I smiled and she walked down the blue hallway that led to the gym.
There were four halls in the school. The blue hall led to the gym and the freshman home rooms. The green was the senior and advanced classes. Across from that was the red hall which was the small library and where the junior home rooms were. The orange hall, where we were at, is the sophomore home rooms and where the majority of the math classes were at. The double doors that led down a white hallway ended in the cafeteria.
“Once you have gone here a few months this school is easy to navigate.” I assured Rikki. He gave me that million dollar smile, “Oh I think I’ll be alright. So I have Algebra first period.”
My heart leapt, “Me too!” I said a little too excitedly. I think I saw his eyes light up, but I know it would have had to be my imagination. He then gestured for me to lead the way.
