Immortals Of Byolla Bay
Chapter 20 – Kinsley

Still wrapping my head around the fact that I’m sharing the same air as supernatural, we walked to my house together where I could take a shower and get dressed. Rikki was going to drive us, but I assured him we had plenty of time to walk. Maggie was chattering away about how much of a relief it is that she can finally tell me everything, and Rikki was frequently glancing over at me with a heart stopping smile on his face.

Mom was already gone by the time we got there, like I knew she would be. I told Maggie and Rikki to make themselves comfortable and I would be done with my shower in about 15 minutes. I threw my book bag on the table and walked into my bedroom, where I let out a scream.

My room had been ransacked. My dresser drawers were on the floor with all my clothes scattered about. My books were in disarray on my bookshelf and my window was wide open. My bedsheets were on the floor and my mattress was flipped over.

Who could have done this? That was my first initial thought, then my blood ran cold when I answered myself. Drakkar. But why?

Rikki stepped in front of me and Maggie touched my shoulder for comfort. I didn’t even hear them come up behind me. “You should call your mother and make sure she made it to work alright.” Rikki suggested. I was thinking the same thing. I texted my mom telling her I was at home taking a shower and I wanted to tell her good morning.

To my instant relief she replied. She said she loved me and overslept so she left for work without even seeing if I had made it back yet. Thank all that is holy she didn’t have time to open my door. Who knows what she would have done had she seen this mess.

“My mom is fine and she didn’t see my room. She woke up late so she didn’t have time to see if I came home early.” Maggie sighed, “Well let’s just replace you some clothes and go ahead and take a shower. Surely he wouldn’t have searched through your bathroom, too.” So they were thinking what I was thinking. It was him.

“He has that damned Oracle on his side. I’m sure he asked her why a human girl could have broken us out of that room he locked with magic, which stands to reason he also knows about the ring. This is the reason your room looks like this. Words cannot explain properly how sorry I am you have been dragged into this. A centuries old battle that begun in a world that is not your own is hardly fair to be brought to your doorstep. If there was a way I could reverse it I would in a heartbeat, Kinsley. All I can do is protect you with my life and make sure your mother stays safe and ignorant of our existence. We’ll take turns keeping watch over your house. He won’t get near you or this house ever again.”

His back was to me and his head was hung low while he spoke. My heart ached to see him like that. I reached out to touch him, to comfort him in some way, but Maggie silently stopped me by shaking her head. She grabbed me a pair of blue jeans, a grey sweater, a bra, socks and a pair of underwear that she miraculously found in all the wreckage and motioned for me to go to the bathroom.

When we were inside Maggie said, “When he gets like this, there is no comforting him. In his mind’s eye he has failed you even though you are safe and sound, as well as your mom. All he is thinking at this point is what could have happened had you not have stayed with us last night. He’s never had anyone outside our family he’s cared about until you so he is taking this personally. Just take your shower love. He’ll be fine by the time you get out.” Maggie hugged me, walked out and shut the door.

After my shower I walked past my room and did a double take. My room was spotless. Everything was put back in its place and the bedsheets were back on the bed. There was a few things that weren’t perfectly in order, but at least it was off the floor.

I walked into the kitchen and seen Maggie putting my books back into my book bag, “I did your homework for you because I know you didn’t have a chance in hell to do it last night. Don’t worry, everything is right, I promise.” What would I do without her? “Thank you so much, Maggie! How did you do that and my room so fast?”

She smirked, “Super speed, remember? I at least wanted to get everything off the floor. I’m sure your mother would flip out if she seen that.” Again, what would I do without her?

Rikki was flipping through the news channels and then after a few minutes turned the TV off. “Their news looks normal. There is nothing bizarrely out of sort the reporters mentioned so he hasn’t acted out publicly yet.” I furrowed my brows, “What does that mean?”

Rikki ran a hand through his bleach blonde hair, “Back in the 1940s or so, we had our last run-in with Drakkar. Gene worked for a car repair place and was by himself that day. Drakkar enchanted the cars to chase Gene around the shop. Gene got away, but the shop was in the papers the next day. Drakkar had stacked about ten cars right on top of each other blocking the entrance to the shop. The town was gathered around pointing and Gene’s name was mentioned as being the last one in the place. We had to move immediately before police started their investigation. I think Drakkar was just bored that day. We hadn’t seen him in over a hundred years and he just randomly showed up, reminding us that he was still in control of our fate. But yesterday was the first time something didn’t go his way. I was just making sure he hasn’t retaliated in some form and it made the news.”

That was horrible. “You mean to tell me that when we make him mad, he will take it out on innocent people? That’s awful!” I just couldn’t conceive how a person could be that evil. Maggie nodded, “That’s Drakkar. He kidnapped me just because he couldn’t have my hand in marriage. He’s a psychopath, dear. That’s what they do. Anyways, you ready to go to school? I don’t know why you love to go there so much because it is it’s own purgatory to me.”
