“Where did you replace so much money?”

Miranda replied, “Well, you gave me fifteen thousand. How on earthcan I spend it all so quickly?”

Skylar estimated her mom wouldn't have a single cent left by the end ofnext month.

Tobias parked his car outside and walked into the restaurant. Hegreeted Miranda politely. “Ms. Watt.”

Miranda sized him up. The more she looked at him, the more satisfiedshe was with her future son-in-law.

She thought Thomas was good-looking when he was young. However,on second thought, Tobias had the qualities of a man; masculine yettough

“I hope I didn't cause any inconvenience by suddenly inviting you fordinner.” Miranda poured Tobias a glass of wine.

Mixing seafood with wine could cause gout.

He smiled. “No.”

It was taxing for him because they had nothing in common. Therefore,he just simply answered whatever questions she asked.

Skylar found Miranda was a little too much. The least her mother coulddo was inform her about the dinner plan.

“Tobias, what do you do for a living?” Miranda asked in astraightforward manner.

She didn't have a clue about his background. However, she knew hewas a capable man and her benefactor because he resolved a majorcrisis for her.

Skylar felt helpless. “Mom... you don't have to worry about that.”

“I am self-employed.” Tobias kept his reply short.

Miranda was rather disappointed by his answer. She thought he wouldelaborate.

She cleared her throat and continued, “My daughter has led a pitiful lifesince she was a child. She might not be smart, but you mustn't do herwrong. Besides, your fiancée is going to deliver soon. What will happento my daughter then?”

Skylar was sweating. Is Mom really concerned about me, or she’s tryingto embarrass me? She already knew about his fianceé, yet she stillwants me to continue the relationship with him.

While Miranda was talking, Tobias drank half a glass of wine. “Wealready ended our relationship. Ms. Watt, you invited me for dinnertoday to ask me to take a stand?”

Miranda admired intelligent people like him. Then she refilled upTobias’ glass with a smile. “It's for the best, I guess. Otherwise, I will beworried about Skylar?”

Tobias looked at Skylar. “Mom, please stop asking. What are you tryingto do? Are you forcing him to marry me? I don't need you to decide mylife.”

After seeing Skylar reacted strongly, Miranda gave her a cold look. Whyis Skylar so foolish? She still doesn't understand that she needs to grabthis golden goose. She'll regret it in the future if he slips through herfingers.

Apparently, Miranda also had her own motive. If Thomas were to replaceout about Skylar and Tobias, he would treat them better in the future.Tobias drank the whole glass of wine in a shot. He then noticed Skylarwas blushing. Obviously, she was too nervous to know his answer.

He leaned against the chair, lowered his gaze at the two empty glassesin front of him as he gave Miranda an analogy. “If the glass is full, it willoverflow. The same principle applies to humans. When one tries toohard, it could backfire. Ms. Watt, I hope you understand what I'm tryingto say.”

Miranda had no idea, but Skylar got his message loud and clear. Tobiasdidn't intend to compromise. He had tactfully told them he would leaveanytime if he was driven into a corner.
