During the call, Sharon shrieked, “Are you helping us or not? If not,can't you just tell us directly?”

Skylar had to move her phone away from her ear.

She felt that she should take Tobias’ advice as this was clearly abottomless pit.

Meanwhile, Kate could sense that Skylar was distracted. After all, Skylardidn't notice her presence despite standing behind her for a long time.All Skylar did was stare blankly into space.

“Have you familiarized yourself with the script of Love In 1978? Thedirector is demanding an answer from us about the contract.”

Given that she was lost in thought, Skylar was given a fright when sheheard Kate's voice. Holding her hand over her heart, she turned aroundto face Kate.

As Kate had been busy with Amelia's matters recently, Skylar found itdifficult to meet her. Every time she called, Kate would reply that shewas busy and end the call abruptly.

Hence, Skylar was upset with Kate's half-hearted attitude toward her. Byfocusing on Amelia, she felt that Kate had neglected her. Although Katcouldn't be everywhere at once, Skylar still expected her to carry outher basic duties well.

Biting her lip, Skylar shook her head. “I don't feel like accepting the role.The plot just isn't engaging enough. Given that they are rushing tocomplete the movie in time for the holiday season, it would likely be aflop at the box office. I do not want such a stigma on me in my veryfirst movie as the lead.”

Kate didn't argue as Skylar was right about the script. It wasn't as goodas Pretty Detective in terms of theme and plot. Furthermore, thedirector was rushing to complete it before the holidays.

However, her intention was to get Skylar a piece of the holiday filmmarket.

Disappointed, Kate furrowed her eyebrows. “I feel that the scripts thatsuit you the most now are low-budget movies like this. It's easier foryou to be a dark horse given the low expectations. Besides, you can'tsay that it's a definite flop yet.”

Skylar could sense Kate's displeasure. If she continued to be picky, shewould likely end up with no work before the holidays.

Given how obvious Kate had made it, Skylar decided to take a gamblePerhaps, she could still use her connections to get the screenwriter tomake some amendments.

Having gone through the script, she found it to be boring. Even thejokes didn’t sound funny.

Skylar asked candidly, “Kate, why have you been focusing all yourefforts on Amelia recently? Have I done something to upset you?”Staring at Kate's increasingly short hair and the ring on her finger,Skylar suddenly recalled that Amelia had shown off a similar ring in aselfie on her Instagram.

Given that both Kate and Amelia were wearing the same ring and Katesaw Amelia as a star, a sudden realization dawned upon Skylar.

If what she assumed was true, it was a signal that she was falling behindthe times.

Kate replied with a shrug, “The company’s focus changes all the time.Given how important the Pretty Detective is to them, I would definitelyhave to keep a close eye on it. Besides, Amelia started acting earlierthan you did and is a good actress in her own right. Hence, there'snothing wrong with promoting her.”

Recovering her intense gaze, Skylar gave Kate a perfunctory laugh.“Alright then, Kate.”

While waiting for the car in front of the office, Skylar somehow felt thatshe was being followed. Over the last few days, the landline at herhouse would ring inexplicably at midnight.

Madelyn was so frightened by it that she lost her rationality, saying thatthe house was haunted. Not daring to answer, she hid in her room andrefused to come out.

After a few consecutive days of it occurring, Skylar could no longer takeit and rushed out of the bedroom to answer. When she heard chillinglaughter over the phone, it caused her hair to stand on end.

Other than laughing, the caller didn’t say anything else.
