Chapter 599 Skylar Is Your Ex

Tobias did not respond to Gavin's question. He wanted to avoid thetopic as he did not wish to discuss his romantic life with others. However, Gavin was certain that, even though Tobias had broken off hisengagement, the latter was seeing someone new.

The hickeys and scratches on his neck explained everything.

During the brief chat with Tobias, Gavin had also mentioned that he didnot intend to leave the country anytime soon.

Even though Tobias did not ask for the reason, Gavin offered it willinglyas he began to air his grievances. “My mom has started to arrange formy marriage. She kept saying that I'm already over thirty, and it's timefor me to settle down. She has even threatened to sever all ties with meif 1 don't do that.”

Tobias could empathize with how Gavin felt. Marriage of conveniencewas common for families like theirs. After all, for businesses, it was allabout cooperating to achieve mutual benefits.

Happily ever after only belonged to fairy tales. In reality, the mostimportant thing was that both families were of similar social status. There was a lady whom Gavin had dated for a few years. Tobias hadeven met her a few times. She was an attractive lady, but the both ofthem still broke up in the end.

With a hint of sorrow in his voice, Gavin smiled and said, “When I toldmy mom that I wanted to marry Laurel, she said that other thanbringing endless trouble into my life, marrying her would not bring meany benefits. Her family is not well-to-do, and we belong to twoseparate worlds. Due to our different upbringings, we wouldn't haveany similar values. Even if I gave her a credit card, she wouldn't evenknow what to spend on.”

Tobias fell silent as he recalled that he had a similar conversation withClaudia previously. Claudia had also questioned him about Skylar'svalue in his life.

However, Tobias had never needed to rely on anyone, much less awoman.

Gavin became increasingly dejected as he spoke. As Tobias promisedSkylar that he would be back before she slept, he got up to pay the bill.Noticing Gavin's slightly drunken state, he asked, “Will you be able toget home yourself?”

Gavin nodded and replied with slurred speech, “How can I let Mr. Fordsend me back? I've already called for a driver. Where are you headingto? Do you need a lift?”

Gavin's house was just a short distance away from Tobias’, so he hadassumed that they would be traveling home together.

However, Tobias replied plainly, “My girlfriend is waiting for me athome. I'll be going to her place.”

Gavin's eyes lit up when he heard that. It was the first time he hadheard Tobias mentioned the word “girlfriend.”

Teasingly, he replied, “Which girl's heart are you going to break again? When do you intend to break up with her?”

Tobias shot a glance at his friend and said, “Do you really think I'm aplayer?”

After knowing Tobias for over a decade, Gavin knew Tobias’ charactervery well. “You're not a player, you're just heartless. After a breakup, I'lltake more than a year to truly move on, but you probably won't evenfeel anything at all,” Gavin replied.

Tobias did not respond and merely let Gavin carry on with his story.

A while later, Tobias followed the address sent to her by Skylar andfound her favorite food stalls, located at the back gate of the woman'shigh school.

Even though it was already late at night, a few stalls along both sides ofthe road were still brightly lit, providing supper for people returninglate.

Skylar had requested doughnuts, roasted chestnuts, and a hotdog.Tobias thought that since he was already there, he might as well buymore.

As such, he also bought some fried chicken and pizza.

“I used to bring my ex-girlfriend here very often. As I did not havemuch money then, she always said that we should just come here oncea week. She loved coming here with me. Whenever we are here, shewould want to sit next to me instead of us facing each other.”

Tobias narrowed his eyes as he looked toward the young couple, whowere sitting at a table at the kebab stall.

The woman was resting her chin on her hand as she listened attentivelyto the man talking about his ex-girlfriend. It was obvious from the lookin her eyes that she was very in love with him.

“Is your ex-girlfriend really Skylar? She's so pretty and elegant. Hercomplexion is so smooth and fair as well.”

“Of course! I won't lie to you. This is Skylar's favorite stall. However, that's all in the past. She's so famous now, and we no longer belong tothe same world. You're not jealous, right?”

The woman smiled coyly and replied, “Why would I be jealous? I'm notthat petty.”
