In Fire He Chose His First Love novel -
Chapter 4
Chapter 4
For the first time, Lucas looked truly disheveled, his brow furrowed and his lips pressed into a thin line.
I sneered, “When I said we should break up downstairs, I meant it.
“It’s not because you ran to save someone else first or because you‘ re entangled with another woman.”
I deliberately glanced at Isabella‘ s face before continuing, “It’s because you don’t understand what
is love.”
Persisting in a hopeless relationship was my ultimate act of sincerity. Now, it’s not that I’m giving up on Lucas, but rather, I’m choosing to free myself.
There were murmurs from the crowd, “Is she really this tough?”
“She’s putting on a show now. When Lucas actually breaks up with her, she‘ ll regret it.”
I remained indifferent.
There was a hint of confusion on Lucas’s stern face.
Lucas‘ s usually composed face showed a hint of confusion. To outsiders, he was the perfect boyfriend—successful, considerate on holidays, respectful to others, and emotionally steady. But now, faced with my outburst, he seemed taken aback, completely oblivious to his own faults. Suppressing my frustration, I spoke.
“In these three years, have you ever truly tried to understand me or make any compromises for me? “You know I love white lisianthus but do you know I have a sweet tooth?”
I avoided eating sweets around him because he thought they were messy. Whenever he saw someone eating them at home, he‘ d frown.
“Have you ever cared about what I said?
“Did you ever want to share your life with me?
“Have you ever introduced me to others on your own?
“Did you ever take the time to explain things from my perspective?”
Realizing I was saying too much, I clenched my jaw and turned to leave.
But he grabbed my hand again.
Lucas’s voice was low. “Even if we have issues, you could tell me. We could work through them calmly.”
I felt exhausted. “All our arguments have been about these things.”
His eyes reddened slightly.
I expressionlessly pulled my hand away.
Someone from the group tried to mediate. “Lucas, calm down. She’s just upset right now. Once she cools off, it’ll be fine.”
I left the bar, my exit captured on video by someone in the crowd.
