🐺Alester🐺

“I, Alester Locke, Future Alpha of RavenWood Pack, reject Kody of Blue Moon Pack as my mate and future Alpha”.

“Aaaaahhhhhh!” Kody screams out in pain.

I watch him collapse as our bond is partially severed. I feel it too but Alpha Les used to beat the shit out of me so that I’d learn to use the pain to make me stronger.

I pick Kody up off the ground and call one of our pack doctors to come give him something for the pain.

Owen is another close friend. He’s always quick and he holds multiple positions in the pack. He’s our pack’s doctor first and foremost but he’s also an incredibly gifted tracker and warrior.

Our main pack doctor just retired or in pack terms went to third so she could spend more time in our closest neighbouring pack where her oldest daughter lives with her mate and their first cub.

“I-it h-hurts,” he gasps.

“I... I know, I’m so sorry”.

I’m a horrible mate, I hope he understands why I did what I did. The door crashes open and Owen runs in.

“Alester, what happened?” he asks hurriedly.

“His mate rejected him”.

He looks at the handsome wolf in my arms, “that really sucks, poor guy. I’ll sedate him for now, he should be awake in a few hours”.

I wish I could take away all his pain.

“Thanks Owen”.

He turns to leave but stops and looks at me, “his former mate should be in pain too, did you see anyone?”

“No, I just found him on the floor”.

“OK, well link me if you see them.” I nod.

I head up the first flight of stairs to Kody’s room. I lay him down and take a moment to catch my breath. This hurts so fucking much.

“I’m so sorry Kody, I just don’t want you to die”.

As soon as I stop talking to him his sister, Sadie, walks in, “what’s wrong with him?”

She’s so quiet she startled me. I legitimately did not hear her coming.

“Sorry I startled you, I’m stealthy”.

“Clearly,” I say, deadpan.

I rake my fingers through his soft, silky, tousled hair.

“I want you to know I can read Kody like a book so I know you’re his mate”.

Well now I feel worse.

I sigh, “I was... I rejected him”.

Next thing I know she’s leapt across the bed, pinned to the floor and she’s punching the shit out of me, she’s a little firecracker.

While she’s punching me another trainee enters Kody’s room, “Sadie! What the hell are you doing?”

“Brandon if you knew what I did you’d be ok with it”.

“Alester, I apologize for her”.

I get back on my feet and raise my hands in surrender, “no, it’s fine. She’s right, I deserve it”.

I go back to Kody’s bedside where a single tear escapes my eye. Sadie asks Brandon to go back to the rest of the trainees. He kisses her and leaves like she asked. Sadie watches him until he’s gone and then she turns on me.

“You didn’t want to reject him, did you?”

“No”.

“Why hurt him then?”

“I did it because I don’t want him to die!” I yell it at her before I see Marcus standing in the door.

“You know we can all hear you, right?”

Everyone just stands there staring at me. I wish his room wasn’t right by the damn stairs. I glare at him so he turns to the group.

“Okay, let’s head to the pack house for dinner.” he ushers everyone back down the stairs.

Once I can no longer hear them I take a moment to steel myself to have this conversation.

“I waited nine years to replace my mate and when I walked in the room and saw him standing there I wanted to cocoon in bed for the next week but he’s absolutely terrified me. That combined with him being male puts a target on his back as my mate. I don’t want him to die but my Alpha will kill him, I did this to save his life”.

A few more tears roll down my cheek. I don’t usually cry but I’m absolutely destroyed over this.

“As his sister, I can tell you right now he’d rather die than be rejected. I feel bad for him... He thought the only issue you had with him was that he’s, well, a male”.

“That is not an iss—“.

She sighs deeply, “look Alester, Kody is special. He’s special to my whole pack. We love him so much”.

She seems rather passionate about it. I mean I think he’s special but he’s my mate.

“I rescued him from Black Blood, those pricks hurt him his entire life. Kody is so strong, he lived through hell but I fear he may not survive your rejection. I don’t want to lose him so you better take it back”.

“He was in Black Blood?”

She crawls on the bed until she’s at his side, “Two years ago my team and I went in to rescue a member of our pack. While we were there I found Kody in a cell, in a corridor all by himself. If he hadn’t been wheezing I wouldn’t have even known he was there”.

She sniffles, I don’t blame her. That’s a lot for anyone to see.

“When I found him he was in the corner completely catatonic. He didn’t even look human, his bones healed wrong. Brandon, my mate, picked him up, took him to the showers and cleaned him up. It was so, so bad. The worst case of abuse and neglect I’ve ever seen. He was paper thin, covered in blood, urine and feces.” she sobs.

After a moment she continues,

“He had a bad infection and was starting to get blood poisoning. Once we got him home he spent 8 months in the infirmary. I was with him through everything... Even when he tried to take his life on multiple occasions”.

Sadie is sobbing, her tears falling continuously like a heavy rain. I sit next to my little wolf and breathe in his scent, also crying. Lex is absolutely furious with me trying to take control so he can fix my mistake but this is my fault and I need to fix it.

She looks at me, “When Kody finally started talking to me I asked him his name... He said... He said slave’s don’t have names”.

We both take one of his hands and squeeze. How could anyone hurt this angel?

“A normal wolf would have broken long before then but when I gave him his name it fanned the spark to a flame and he wanted to live so he trained day and night to become strong enough to fight off any attacker. Physically he’s the strongest wolf I know but emotionally and mentally he still struggles. I think a part of him thinks this is all just a fever dream and he’ll wake up in that cell”.

“What have I done?”

Sadie takes my hand and tells me it’s not too late and that I should take it back.

“I know you’re scared of your father but Kody deserves to be happy and have his mate. Your father is an asshole and if he doesn’t accept you Blue Moon will. We love Kody and we want him to be happy.” She smiles at me.

He deserves all the happiness in the world after what he went through but I’m still not sure his safety is worth the risk. Which makes it abundantly clear to me that I don’t deserve him. He’s been through literal hell and survived. He needs someone as strong as him. If I was, I would have accepted him without hesitation.

I’m getting hungry and I heard Sadie’s stomach growl. Kody should be out for a few more hours so I lead Sadie to the pack house so she can eat and relax with the rest of her pack. I’m sure Alpha Les knows about the rejection already because, unfortunately, Owen has to report all visitors’ medical status to the Alpha so he can let the visitors Alpha know.

🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺

When we arrive at the pack house the Alpha links me and asks me to come to his office.

Like I figured he asks me about the rejected wolf and asks me if I think he needs to go home. He probably should but I’m not ready to let him go. He stares at me waiting for my response.

“He should stay, we can work on how to use the pain to make him stronger”.

Alpha Les nods approvingly and then dismisses me and tells me he’ll have the training house staffed tomorrow because he doesn’t wasn’t ‘those wolves’ to get comfortable here .

I don’t respond to that I just leave because I can’t stand being around that fucking asshole.

I head to the kitchen and grab some food for Kody and myself, I don’t want my mate to go hungry. I see my mom on my way out but I dodge her because I know she wants me to go to the stupid ball and I’m not in the mood to argue about it.

I head back to the training without them wanting to spend some time alone with my sweet mate.

🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺

I leave the food in the fridge with a note on it saying it’s mine and if they touch it they die. Hopefully that registers with this bunch.

I head up to Kody’s room and see a blonde woman standing over him running her fingers through his hair the same way I had.

“Who are you?” I demand.

“Alester, how could you reject my sweet boy?”

What is she talking about? Her sweet boy?

“Who. Are. You?” I ask again, punctuating each word.

“You know me best as Moon Goddess but I go by many names”.

“Prove it”.

“I can show you what he went through... Why’d he’d rather die than have his mate reject him”.

“How?” I ask her harshly, I’m not in the mood for this shit.

“I told you, I’m the Moon Goddess”.

She walks over to me and raises her hands like she’s going to cup my face, I flinch back and grab her wrists.

She growls out, “Let me show you”.

I release her wrists and she presses her fingers to my temples. I see visions of men using and beating him. I see how they had him in the cell he called home. One of the men goes to hit him and the sheer force makes me back away and it breaks the connection.

“HE FUCKING PRAYED TO YOU AND YOU JUST LEFT HIM!” I’m livid.

She snaps back, “I’m not allowed to meddle in your lives like that, the other Gods and Goddesses forbid it. Our Kody wasn’t even supposed to have lived past a few days”.

Admittedly she sounds utterly defeated and heartbroken at the state she left our sweet Kody in. She sits down beside him doing what she can to comfort him now.

“His mother was a young girl who’d been assaulted by a rogue. When he found out he’d gotten her pregnant he kidnapped her so he could sell their child. She fought hard and managed to get away.” a tear falls before she wipes the rest away.

“While on the run she went into labour she had him and then left him inside pack borders hoping he’d be safe... Unfortunately it was Black Blood lands.” she sighs.

“The Alpha was meant to have killed him but his wolf liked Kody’s scent so he kept him and used and abused him, there was nothing I could do...”

“Why not fate another to replace him?” That should have been easy, right?

She takes my hand, “I did. Sadie was the only one in your time with the skills and the team to get him safely. Her stealth is unmatched by any wolf. She was just a child herself so I had to fate a pack member to be taken so Kody could be rescued”.

“Really, there was nobody else in the world that could save him?” I question.

“There wasn’t. You know, Alester it’s not easy watching you tear each other apart but that’s part of free will of your human side. I only have influence over your wolves. If your human side is strong enough it can change the fate of their wolf, even make wolve’s reject their soulmates.” She gives me a pointed look.

“I can will it but even then it isn’t a guarantee that you’ll end up where I planned. It’s a delicate balance. You, for example, should have been mated and Alpha but when I gave Kody to you and your mate I screwed up the balance.”

Two mates? I have two fucking mates!

“I have two mates?” I finally ask outloud.

“Yes, You have two mates. There was nobody better for Kody than you and your mate. I looked for years but time was running out for me to fate it, unfortunately that made it so your mate never made it to the ball and you never met. I am sorry about that but sacrifices must be made for the greater good”.

She rants about how Kody and I are perfectly matched and I did the one thing she never expected. I tried again to explain why I rejected him but she just called me a coward. She’s not wrong.

The Moon Goddess demands I fix this mess I made but even if I do, there is no guarantee Kody will forgive me. She gives me the signature mom look you know the one ′shut up and do what I say’.

I take a moment, close my eyes and pray he forgives me.

“I, Alester Locke, Future Alpha of RavenWood Pack accept Kody of Blue Moon Pack as my mate and future Alpha”.

She kisses his forehead and says he’ll be awake soon, “prove to him that you love him and deserve his forgiveness”.

“I will do my very best to prove I am worthy of him”.

Tears are streaming down my face, she brushes them away, “I have no doubt you can fix this massive mistake you made. I have big plans for you three”.

“I’m sorry I fucked up”.

“Tell him, not me.” she laughs and disappears in a bright flash of light.

I promise to never give up on him, he’s mine and I want to be his.
