Oct. 8: Match

As Jack was working at the office this afternoon, he started having a strange feeling. As Jack closed his work computer to head home, he was having a strange feeling. As Jack made his way home from his workplace, he was being persistently gnawed at by a strange feeling.

The strange feeling only grew more and more pronounced as he fumbled for his keys, trying to get the door open. The very moment the door opened, Jack realized something was wrong as he was hit by a strong smell of what seemed like rotten eggs. Almost immediately, he remembered that it was the distinctive smell of natural gas.

His mind went straight to his wife Emily and her 4 month old daughter Evie who could still be home. He instantly ran inside, panic taking over him as he screamed their names, running into the house with his shoes on. He went directly for the stairs to the second floor, where the two were most likely to be; in Evie’s room. The smell kept on assaulting his nose, although slightly fainter from the first floor but still very dense in the air. He swung open the door in one swift motion, seeing both Emily and Evie lying motionlessly on the carpeted floor.

Jack rushed to their side, wanting to wake them up and reaching to shake Emily. The moment his hand pushed her body the second time, her hair grazed over the plush carpet and Jack immediately paled with horror.

Within the next split second, he saw a spark of static crackle from the friction between hair and wool, as though someone had stricken a match. The deafening noise of an explosion coursed through the neighbourhood as Jack and Emily’s house was reduced to a burning frame.

Natural gas leaks can be extremely dangerous. If you smell a leak, exit the place first and call 911 or your consult your local .
