Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 49
Lycer’s POV
Celestial sniffled and laid her head back down on my chest. I had given her ibuprofen, telling her it would make her headache go away but it only seemed to make her feel worse. We had just started walking again after we rested for the night, Celestial shivering the entire time.
I didn’t know how much farther away her pack was but I knew which direction to go in. I have spent years memorizing where certain packs are according to the stars. One of the firsts was Paramount since it is the strongest pack in the world. I figured if anything got serious I would sneak in there and they would unknowingly or knowingly protect me.
“Lycer?” Her voice was rough and shaky. I was starting to worry. She had been doing at least a bit better but now she was worse than before.
“Yes Celestial?” I tried to sound casual but I didn’t know if it worked or not. She coughed and sighed.
“How much longer? I really don’t feel good.” I pulled her close to me, being careful of her back.
“Do you want me to stop for a bit? I can hear a stream not to far from here.” She hesitated before nodding.
“Just for a bit though. I want to be home as soon as possible.” I nodded understandingly. She needs her mate.
I started to walk in the direction of the stream that I could hear for the past hour or so. When we got there, there was a stream that the sun hit and reflected the light. Celestial smiled and coughed a little.
I walked to the edge of the stream and sat Celestial down. she smiled and shrugged off her large coat. She shivered but leaned down to put her hand in the stream. I watched with a small smile as a happy look crossed her face.
‘That’s rare,’ I thought to myself
“Lycer, look!” Her voice was raspy but she didn’t seem to care. “There are fish here!” I chuckled and rolled my eyes. I got up and moved so I was right next to her and looked where she was pointing. True to her word, in the freezing cold water there was a bunch of fish of all different colors. I guess the cold doesn’t bother them.
“You’re such a child sometimes,” I said with a smile. She shrugged and started to shiver. I sighed and picked up the large coat, draping it over her shoulders.
“Why don’t we get going? I think the sooner you get back to your mate, the better.” She nodded and stood up. My eyes widened as she started to trip over her own feet. I pushed myself off of the ground and caught her as she fell forward. She winced as I touched her back and I felt myself wanting to recoil. I didn’t mean to hurt her.
“Are you okay Celestial?” She nodded and I shook my head. She was lying. I put my hands under her legs and held her to me like I was before so she could lay her head on my chest.
“Lycer? Do you mind if I go to sleep?” I sighed and moved my free hand to her forehead. She was burning hot. I moved my hand to the bottom of her waist so I wouldn’t touch her back.
“Go ahead. I’ll wake you up if anything happens.” She nodded. I started to walk again as she slowly fell asleep.
It was day right now but I could tell where I was going from certain landmarks. A bit away from Paramount pack was a mountain and I had memorized some of the details. I recognized where the packs that I thought I should remember are according to the landmarks as well, in case it was day time or cloudy. I learned it when Malum started coming after me. Her pack isn’t too far away now but I don’t know if we’ll be there by today or tomorrow.
‘She’ll be safe soon,’ I think to myself. ‘Her mates pack is one of the strongest packs in North America. They can protect her and I will be able to as well. I am not leaving her again. I need to make sure she is protected and with me there I can make sure she is being protected at all times by at least someone.’
I look up after being lost in my thoughts to see a house in the distance. A pack house. We were closer than I originally thought. I smiled. Stopping, I realized that we must have crossed the border at some point.
‘s**t,’ I think. ‘I will have to tell them to up their security.’
I hear growls coming from around me. I look to see some wolves starting to get closer to Celestial and I. Some men came out too but their guards are up.
“The Luna,” one of them whispers and the growling grows louder.
Celestial starts to move and then her eyes open, staring at me for a moment. She moves her gaze around and a smile comes to her lips.
I look back around as all of the wolves stop growling. Seeing Celestial smile seems to have calmed them down. She is not even their true Luna yet they still feel connected to her. She isn’t even part of the pack so this connection confuses me a bit. Usually if a member of the pack is added they have to be marked by their mate, born into the pack, or accepted through an old tradition by the Alpha. Celestial wouldn’t have to go through that considering she has a mate in the pack, especially since her mate is the Alpha.
A man with brown hair, green eyes, and a powerful aura comes into the clearing with a panicked look on his face. He must be Xavier, Alpha of this pack. He looks around frantically until his eyes land on me. He growls and then his eyes shift downward.
Celestial pushes herself out of my arms and runs towards him with every bit of strength she has. I smile as I watch her throw her arms around his neck and starts to cry in relief and joy for seeing her mate again.
