Intuition
Chapter Seventy Eight

Eve dreamed she was running. Her black paws were moving so fast that it seemed the earth was spinning according to her will. The woods were familiar. She was in the forest beside the Dolan country house.

The strangest thing to Eve was that she knew she was in a dream. This couldn’t be real. She knew that in the real world she was a captive. A hostage against her will, away from her pack and her mate. The thought struck her... Her mate. If she was in Green Tree, where was Flint.

Merely thinking his name seemed to produce his scent. He was close and he too, was running. Eve raced toward him, hurling her body forward with as much force as her legs could give her. Just like on the night of the Call last year, when they met, they wolves barreled into each other.

Flint was jumping and running, Examining the black wolf from every angle while snuggling close to her in a panicked, periodic fashion. He was trying to speak to her, she could tell. But her link was still closed, she couldn’t hear him. The white wolf transformed a moment later and Eve followed suit. In a matter of moments, they stood in front of one another.

The Alpha barely had time to take a step toward her before she lept into his arms, hugging his neck tightly. The scent of him was so crisp and fresh, a part of her was praying he was real. Still, she knew this was a dream. Just a dream. However, the electrictiy coursing through her veins felt very, very real.

“Eve!” He hugged her, pulling her entire body flush with his.

They both froze and looked at her stomach. It was flat. As if she weren’t pregnant at all. Panic surged through them both as Eve clutched her now empty womb.

“Where is he?!” Flint asked hastily.

“Relax.” Eve stroked his face with her finger tips, admiring his beard. “This is going to sound crazy, but this is just a dream.”

“What?” He froze in confusion.

“This isn’t real. It can’t be. I’m dreaming. And this is clearly a memory from before I was pregnant.” She thought aloud. “In real life I-”

Eve cut herself short. If this was a dream, she didn’t want to ruin it with the horrible truth. However, as she spoke Flint’s eyes grew wider and wider. He wasn’t confused anymore, far from it.

“Bastian took you. You’ve been gone for nearly a month.” Flint stated.

“How do you...” She furrowed her brows.

“Because this is my dream too. We’re sharing it.” He answered.

“Oh, no!” Eve covered her mouth and began rambling. “Bastian is going to kill everyone if I opened the mindlink! No! Flint, wake up! Go save our friends!”

Flint grabbed her and pulled her close again. He refused to wake up. If he could have, he would have remained in this memory forever.

“Calm down, baby. Please. Just be here.” He breathed. “The mindlink isn’t open or my wolf could reach yours.”

“Okay.” The sound of her mate saying ‘baby’ sent a pleasant chill down her spine. “How is this happening?”

" I think you’re channeling the Alpha power, using it to reach me without using your own.” Flint probed seriously, “How are you? I mean, outside of here.”

“I don’t know. I’m not gaining weight like I’m supposed to and the power is strong but I don’t think I’m still strong. You know? I had to start eating raw meat too. My wolf hates eating things we didn’t kill ourself.” Eve snuggled closer to him, hoping to absorb his resolve.

“I’m going to see Noah soon. After the execution, we’ll have answers.” He stated firmly.

“Execution?!” She furrowed her brows worriedly.

“Father found the traitor. It was Clark.” Flint informed her.

“Fucking Clark!” She scoffed before asking, “What happened?”

He told her about Candor, Clark, Graham, and the letters. As he did, he sat on the forest floor and pulled Eve into his lap. Having his bare skin against hers seemed to be the only way to calm the raging animals in their minds.

“Do you know where you are?” Flint eventually asked.

“Yeah. A small place called Kirkwood but I don’t know if we’re in it or around it. Listen to me though, okay? If you storm in with the pack, Bastian will move us. He has contingency plans for his contingency plans.” Eve answered hurriedly.

“I’ve never heard of it but I’ll replace it. I’ll replace you. I swear it, Eve.” Flint placed a long, deep kiss on her lips.

She drank in the taste of him. His scent was woodsy and familiar. It surrounded her and filled her mind with bliss. Every inch of his skin that touching hers produced a torrent of electricity. Longing, desperation... These emotions were obvious in each move made by the Alpha couple.

Flint leaned forward abruptly. Eve fell onto the ground and he pressed his body against her. His weight pinned her to the ground as he claimed her mouth with his tongue. The heat coursing between them was so ferocious it was stifling their breaths.

His fingertips dimpled into her thigh, pulling it around his hip. Eve moaned, grinding her pelvis against him. Flint growled and thrust into her deeply, without hesitation. She screamed and clung to him, unable to take any distance between them.

His lips moved over the mark on her shoulder, sending a bolt of lightening into her stomach. She trembled in his arms, convulsing and whimpering. Flint sighed and bit her throat, licking the sweat off her skin. His hand slid over her breast and down to her hip, pulling her to meet his every thrust.

He groaned before kissing her again, absorbing the scream from her lips. Eve writhed as wave of pleasure surged through her, colliding into him. Flint’s growl reverberated in his chest as he shuddered with ecstasy.

“Eve...” He refused to move away from her. The very thought was painful.

“I love you, Flint.” She gazed into his emerald eyes, restraining her tears. “I miss you so much.”

“Oh, baby. No, don’t cry. Okay?” Flint hugged her, burying her face in his shoulder.

Eve was sobbing, releasing the feelings she’d been hiding. He sat up and pulled her into his arms, cradling her in his lap. Flint blinked away the stinging tears threatening to spill. He kissed her cheek tenderly, drawing her cyan blue gaze back to his.

“I love you, Eve. I miss you too, very much. But we can do this. We’re so close to the end, baby. I promise.” He dried the wet trails on her face.

“I’ll make it back to you. I’m trying really hard.” Eve sat up and wrapped her arms around his neck. “But you need to take care of yourself too, okay?”

She pulled back and playfully combed his beard with her fingers. He had obviously not taken the time to be human in a while. He smirked and nodded, agreeing.

“And the pack. Don’t forget them for me. We need them. They need us. We took an oath.” She leaned her forehead against his.

“Okay, Eve. Okay.” He breathed.

The wind shifted and the scent it carried was familiar. Alarming. Flint stood, pulling Eve to her feet. Their eyes met in an instant. He saw her fear and anticipation. She saw his rage and frustration.

“No. If he is here, like before... He can’t see us talking. We have to run.” Eve tried to move away but her mate held her tightly.

“No. Let him come, I’ll-”

“And when he wakes up? What happens then?” Eve cupped his face gently.

“I can’t-” He hugged her as if he could keep her. “I can’t let you go.”

The Luna pressed a light, slow kiss on his lips. She hoped to gift him some patience, though she didn’t have much to give away. When she pulled away she could see that he agreed with her, however reluctantly. Their time together had run out.

“I love you, Flint. More than the moon and the stars.” She felt another few tears fall from her lashes.

“I love you too, Eve. I will replace you. I promise.” Flint tried to release her but his arms wouldn’t obey him.

A distant howl grabbed their attentions. The pair shared one more long look before shifting back into their wolven forms. The couple huddled together, the animals took a minute to be beside one another. Just one minute.

Then the black wolf ran east, toward town. The white wolf went north, toward the house and away from his enemy’s scent. Neither looked back. Each knew that if they had, they wouldn’t have been able to leave their mate’s side.
