Invisible Mate ( Mate Series Book 1)
That eerie feeling - Part1

Adele was going through the dark tunnel with Chris and Liam. They walked for a few hours and found a wall with a few markings on it.

" What language is this?” Liam asked.

" Nothing we know,” Adele stated. ” But these symbols look familiar; I saw them in the castle.”

" Do you think it is of any importance?”

" I don’t know,” Adele said, staring at the circular symbol with three lines on it.

" Then let’s keep moving,” Liam said, and they walked away.

After a few hours, they found a ray of light entering the tunnel through the wall of rocks.

" I think that’s the way out,” Chris remarked.

He and Liam used their strength to move aside the rocks one by one, and finally, they had enough space to squeeze out.

As soon as they were out of the tunnel, their jaws dropped in surprise.

" Did we step out of the forest?” Adele wondered, seeing the small-sized huts in front of her.

Out of the blue, everything was blurred, and Adele felt darkness all around her. Suddenly she closed her eyes as a flash of light fell upon her. When she opened her eyes, the sun shone brightly, but Adele’s vision was still blurry. She saw a silhouette of someone falling down the cliff, and she felt a burning pain in her chest. ” C-Chris... L-Liam...” Adele cried out and extended her hand to reach out, but the person was already gone. The pain she felt was so unbearable, as if her heart was being ripped out of her chest.

" Chrissss...Liammmm...” Adele woke up suddenly screaming.

" Adele... Are you alright?” Chris and Liam were looking at her in concern.

Adele was so relieved to see Chris and Liam alive and healthy in front of her that she hugged them tightly. ” Thank the Goddess...”

Chris and Liam were surprised by her reaction. They hugged her back and tried to calm her down. ” Was it a nightmare?” Liam asked.

" Yes... A horrible nightmare,” Adele said to convince herself more than Chris and Liam.

" Don’t worry; nothing can happen to you until we are here,” Chris stated.

" We won’t let anyone hurt you,” Liam added.

" It’s not about me,” Adele yelled, breaking the hug.

" What do you mean?” Chris and Liam were confused.

Adele didn’t reply as she thought about the nightmare that felt almost too real.

" Were you worried about us?” Chris asked hopefully.

Adele felt awkward and spoke, avoiding looking at them. ” We have wasted a lot of time here. Let’s go; I need some fresh air.”

Chris and Liam were disappointed when Adele backed away and got up. They had rested enough, and their injuries were also healed, so they continued their journey.

After walking for a few hours, Adele saw the familiar markings on the wall she had seen in her dream.

" This is the same as our dream,” Alexa said.

" I think it’s a coincidence,” Adele replied.

" What language is this?” Liam asked.

Adele felt a sense of dread when she heard Liam say the exact words as in her dreams. She glanced at the markings and saw the circular symbol with three lines.

“Let’s move ahead,” Chris said, but Adele was lost in her thoughts.

" Did you replace something?” Liam asked Adele when he saw her staring at the wall.

Adele didn’t reply, and Liam put his hand on her arm. ” Adele...?”

" Y-Yes...?”

" You zoned out. Shall we go?”

" Hmmm.” Adele nodded and walked ahead.

They had barely moved and were attacked by a colony of bats.

" Duck...” Liam yelled and got down, pulling Adele with him while Chris also ducked at the right moment.

Thankfully, the bats flew along without aiming at them. They continued walking further, and the tunnel size seemed to grow smaller and smaller.

" Let me walk at the front. Adele, you in the middle, and Liam at the back,” Chris said confidently.

" Why should you be in the front?” Adele asked.

" So that I can protect you if there is any danger coming from the front.”

" I don’t need your protection,” Adele scoffed.

" Don’t be silly, Adele. You are my mate, and I vow to protect you with my life,” Chris said, and Adele was lost for words. Her heart was beating fast, and she felt butterflies in her stomach.

" So shall we?” Chris asked, smiling and Adele nodded without thinking.

Liam winked at Chris and started walking ahead, with Chris leading in the front.

After strolling for a few minutes, Chris abruptly stopped.

" Why did you stop?” Adele asked, but Chris didn’t respond as he was frozen in shock. Adele looked ahead of Chris but couldn’t replace anything.

" What happened to him?” Adele asked Liam.

" What’s wrong, Chris?”

Chris, who was shaking in fear, pointed a trembling head towards the top of the tunnel.

Liam and Adele followed his direction and saw a tiny snake crawling on the ceiling.

" It’s just a snake, and it’s not even poisonous,” Adele said casually.

" Chris is scared of snakes, ” Liam whispered to Adele.

" Huhh??!!” Adele was surprised.

" It’s a harmless snake, Chris,” Liam said.

" G-Get rid of it,” Chris stuttered.

Adele was stunned to see that the ever-strong greatest Alpha was afraid of something as trivial as this. She tried her best not to laugh at Chris’s scared look.

Liam slowly stepped forward and tried to catch the snake, but it suddenly moved aside, and Chris jumped in fear and hid behind Adele, holding her hand. ” S-Save me from the b-beast,” Chris pleaded.

Adele burst into laughter. ” The almighty Alpha Chris is scared of a puny snake.”

Chris tightened his hold on Adele when Liam had finally managed to grab the snake and throw it on the other side.

" How about me leading from the front now?” Liam asked, raising his brow and trying to stop himself from laughing at Chris’s reactions.

" Are you not scared of anything?” Adele asked Liam.

" Nothing at all,” Liam said proudly, and Chris snorted.

They continued their journey, and after an hour, they could see a ray of light entering the tunnel through the wall of rocks.

Adele felt the sense of Deja Vu again, and this time she was in panic. ” This is so similar to our dream, Al.”

" I don’t know what’s happening.” Alexa was equally alarmed.

" Does this mean what we saw was...”

“Shut up, Ad,” Alexa yelled. " Don’t assume the worst.” Though Alexa tried to assure Adele, she herself wasn’t sure.

By then, Chris and Liam had managed to move aside the rocks and said to Adele in excitement. ” Let’s get out of here.”

The three of them emerged from the tunnel and were shocked to see the scene in front of them.

" Where’s the damn forest!!??” Chris exclaimed, looking at the small huts in front of him.

" The forest is right here,” Liam said to Chris. ” Look around.”

Though there were small huts here and there, it was surrounded by trees and bushes.

" Who would build huts in the forest?”

" Tribal people...? Adele guessed.

" Ohhh...Right,” Chris agreed. ” Let’s see if they can tell us about...Where are we headed?”

" The holy river,” Adele said.

" The holy what?”

" It’s a long story. I will tell you later. First, let’s see what we replace here, and this time, you guys stay behind.”

" No way.”

" If you don’t agree, I will run away, leaving you guys here,” Adele said in a threatening voice.” She was getting paranoid as the things she saw in her dream were supposedly coming true. She was scared for her mates lives and wanted to protect them at any cost. She felt a throbbing in her chest as if the pain she felt in the nightmare was real.

" Okay, we agree,” Both Liam and Chris said simultaneously.

" You lead us. Anyways, we don’t know where to go from here,” Liam said, chuckling awkwardly.

They moved ahead slowly, looking at the huts which were empty.

" Where is everyone?”

" Be careful and keep a look at the surroundings. Tribal people are not friendly to strangers,” Adele remarked.

" At least it’s better to fight humans than animals,” Chris said, and Adele glared at him.

" Sorry, bad joke,” Chris said apologetically.

" You were not so keen on fighting when you saw the tiny snake.” Adele sneered. ” We do not need to fight if they are peaceful people. First, we can try to talk and negotiate.”

" Shhh!!” Liam said. ” Look there.”

In front of them was an open field where they saw around 20-25 people standing in front of an altar.

On the altar, there was a throne where a woman was seated wearing a crown made of stones and gems, holding a staff. They spoke in a strange language that Chris, Liam, and Adele didn’t understand.

They observed the tribal people from their hiding spot when they were suddenly poked by something on their backs.

The three turned around and saw a few tribal men holding a spear at them.

Chris and Liam clenched their fist and were about ready to go into combat mode when Adele spoke to them through mind-link. ” Hold your horses. Have patience.”
