It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 24
Due to her biological clock, Lucia woke up early as usual. The pain she felt throughout her body clearly reminded her of what had happened last night. It was such an intense and passionate night. She always felt like her legs were sore and couldn’t move. His hands seemed to be filled with lead. They were so heavy that she couldn’t even lift them. She tried to get up, but a man’s strong arm wrapped around her waist, preventing her from moving.
It was the first time she woke up in the same bed as Malcolm.
He was still sleeping and in that sleep he looked so calm and gentle. His usually tense, beautiful face was also relaxed at this moment. Her thick eyelashes covered her eyes and her steady breathing made her chest move up and down gently. Lucia seemed enchanted by the sleeping man. She reached out to touch Malcolm’s face. But she suddenly withdrew her hand before even touching him. In the end, she just watched him sleep peacefully.
“Am I bewitched? Why do I lose my temper every time I see him? »
“What are you thinking about?” » Malcolm asked lazily after opening his eyes.
The truth is that he had woken up long before Lucia. He just didn’t open his eyes and pretended to still be asleep. It was the first time since this incident that a woman had slept in her bed all night. To his surprise, it didn’t bother him at all. In fact, he was even relieved.
” To nothing. Let me go now. I need to take a shower. It’s been a while since I’ve been to the office. I have to go today,” Lucia said quickly. His face had already become indifferent again as usual.
” It’s true? It seems I’m not charming enough, and my performance last night was far from up to par. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be thinking about work today,” Malcolm said lazily in a low voice, raising his eyebrows.
“Malcolm, don’t do that. If I cannot complete this matter, it may cause harm to the Evans Group. » With that, Lucia pushed away the hand that held her waist and quickly slipped out of bed. She then rushed to the bathroom.
It was better for her not to linger in bed with him, otherwise who knows what would happen?! It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Malcolm. It was more that she didn’t trust herself at all. He was too tempting for her to resist.
Malcolm couldn’t help but laugh as he watched Lucia run away from him. Apparently he hasn’t felt this good in many years. However, his eyes darkened suddenly, when a thought crossed his mind.
“What would you do if you lost your wings one day, Lucia? », he thought.
Meanwhile, Howell had gone to the Evans family mansion.
“Wilma, here is the information you requested. » As he spoke, he respectfully handed a folder of documents to Wilma.
Inside the folder was all the information about Lucia. There was only one thing he changed in the file. This was Lucia’s date of birth. The rest was the truth about him. However, changing her date of birth was enough to make her disappear instantly in a second.
In fact, Howell was shocked the day before when he saw Lucia’s birth date. He couldn’t believe that a woman was really born on such a positive day. And the irony is that she got to know Malcolm.
One of the uncompromising rules of the Evans family was that the eldest male member of each generation must marry a woman born on an extremely positive day and have a legitimate son before the age of thirty-five. In the past hundred years, no one has dared to disobey this rule that their ancestors had established. Howell figured there must be a story behind this seemingly simple rule. Out of all the Evans family members, only Wilma and Malcolm knew the story behind it.
It was such a closely guarded secret that no matter what Howell did, he couldn’t replace out. He was sure that it would be very beneficial for him if he managed to discover this secret. “Does he know?” Howell
asked. His plan was already in motion and he couldn’t allow one small mistake to ruin everything. If he failed, he would die. At the thought of this consequence, he felt a shiver run through his body.
“Howell… Howell?” » Wilma gently called to Howell who seemed lost in thought.
“Yes,” Howell replied respectfully, regaining his senses.
“What do you think Malcolm wants to do?” » Wilma asked wearily. She had finished going through Lucia’s file, so she put it aside.
“I think it’s just a passing love for him. He’ll break up with her in a few days,” Howell replied in a respectful voice.
“I’m just afraid that what happened last time will happen again.” I really don’t want him to become like that again. But if he really wasn’t in love with Lucia, he wouldn’t have let the media get so involved. » Wilma was confused.
“Is there anything you want to do?” » Howell chose to ignore his question.
The reason why Malcolm highlighted his relationship with Lucia in front of the media was simple. This was because he knew that Lucia was born on an extremely positive day. She was fully qualified to marry him and give him a legitimate son. However, Howell didn’t want that to happen. He wanted it to be his granddaughter who gave birth to the next heir of the Evans family, so that his family could rightfully take everything back. Only if this means failed would he be forced to use his last resort. After all, if he was just a little careless, this last resort could lead to the destruction of both his family and the Evans family.
“I’m old and I can’t control it anymore. Do as you please. I hope that by the end of this year, Susan will become my daughter-in-law and become pregnant. » With these words, Wilma sighed, got up and left.
” All right. » Howell bowed respectfully, but a cold glint shone in his eyes.
Wilma returned to the greenhouse. She looked at the colorful flowers that she usually loved so much, with total indifference. Tired, she slowly closed her eyes. Her only wish was that the Evans family nightmare would end while she was still alive. However, she knew she didn’t have much time left. Until now, she was helpless.
It had been decades since Wilma had entered the Evans family. When she first arrived at this mansion, she was shocked by the luxury, wealth and grandeur of the mansion. It was only much later that she discovered the truth. Her husband had married her regardless of her humble origins, due to her date of birth.
As for the Evans family secret that had always been very well hidden, she didn’t know it until her mother-in-law told her before she died. When she found out, she was first shocked, then scared. A sort of shiver rose from the soles of his feet to the back of his neck.
“You are my eldest son’s wife. Based on our ancestors’ calculation, the Evans family nightmare will end after your eldest grandson has a son. It is your duty to make this happen, whatever the cost. Otherwise, I will haunt you after I die. »
Those cold words from her mother-in-law still rang clearly in Wilma’s ears. Since then, she had done everything possible to put an end to the nightmare.
At this moment, all kinds of buried memories rushed into Wilma’s mind.
Suddenly she felt like she had aged a lot. She raised her hand slightly but immediately placed it down weakly. She had been haunted by this nightmare countless times at night over the past decades. “Would this really end in Malcolm’s generation? “, she wondered.
After leaving the Evans family mansion, Howell went straight home. Sean was already waiting for him there.
“Sir,” Sean greeted Howell respectfully as Howell got out of his car.
“Come with me,” Howell ordered. His old, squeaky voice echoed in the spacious living room.
” Yes sir. » Sean hurried to catch up.
The two men went to Howell’s private office.
“Sean, how long have you worked for me? » Howell asked, taking the tobacco pipe that Sean lit for him.
“It’s been twenty years, sir. » Sean responded respectfully as he stepped aside.
“Twenty years… Time flies. You’re in your early 40s now. However, you are not married and have no children either. I’m sorry for making you suffer. Howell seemed to sense time passing.
“Working for you is actually a blessing for me, sir. I owe you my life. I will do anything for you. » Sean expressed his loyalty without hesitation.
“What is he doing there?” Howell suddenly changed the subject.
“He’s in the Middle East, sir. It seems he hasn’t taken any action yet,” Sean replied.
” I see. Let’s let him do it his way for now. I don’t want to go see him unless I have no choice. He is my last resort. This matter…” Howell stopped mid-step and stared at Sean calmly.
“Don’t worry, I’ll do it.” You will be safe from any suspicion. It will look like an accident,” Sean said coldly.
“Well, I can always rest assured with your way of doing things. You have my gratitude for your hard work,” Howell said simply before taking a deep drag from his pipe.
Sean has been a mercenary for a long time. Once, while on a mission, he got trapped and almost died. As chance would have it, he met Howell, who was moved by his tenacious vitality. Howell saved him. Since then, Sean has dedicated his life to Howell and completely abandoned his previous life as a mercenary.
Howell knew that Sean’s attitude toward him was the loyalty of a soldier. He made good use of Sean’s loyalty and the debt of gratitude he owed him. He kept Sean close and made him work for him.
The mercenaries had no feelings. However, once determined to be loyal to someone, they would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for that person. The world of mercenaries had its own principles of survival. They were free individuals and they did all kinds of jobs, even the most dangerous ones, for money. They were also free to leave the mercenary world at any time.
Sean was an example of this. After making sure that Howell was the person he wanted to be loyal to for the rest of his life, he was determined to do anything for Howell, even if it cost him his life.
