It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 28
It was a summer morning. Sunlight shone into the room through a small opening in the curtains. Malcolm woke up to his phone vibrating on the nightstand. After looking at who the caller was, he rejected the call. He then looked at Lucia, who was still sleeping, and removed his arm from under her neck. She shifted unceremoniously before replaceing the pillow and continuing to sleep.
After heading to the bathroom to quickly freshen up, Malcolm grabbed his phone and walked out of the room. He then called the number and waited for someone to answer the call.
“Sir, Miss Garcia’s injury and Elle’s car accident were not caused by the same people,” Kaleb’s respectful voice came from the other end of the line.
Hearing this, Malcolm fell silent. He was silent for a long time. Kaleb waited patiently for his response.
“I’ll come to the company in an hour.” » With these words, Malcolm hung up.
When Lucia finally woke up, she found that Malcolm was not in the room. Frowning, she glanced at her injured leg and felt helpless. “Have I been too spoiled lately? Why would I feel uncomfortable when he’s not around? » Lucia scolded herself in her head trying to push away these feelings.
The next second, she heard the door open, and looking up, she saw Malcolm enter. Since he was wearing the same shirt as yesterday, it was slightly wrinkled. The sleeves were rolled up to the elbows. There was a slight beard on his chin, which made him look wild and sexy, unlike his usual serious look.
“I’m going to the company, and I want you to stay here. Don’t think about it too much,” Malcolm said tenderly, looking into her eyes.
“Hmm… Can I…” Lucia was about to say something, but after a moment of thought, she bit back her words.
“Don’t even think about leaving here, you won’t be able to get out. » Malcolm warned her because he clearly knew what she was thinking.
Lucia growled and threw a pillow at him angrily, but he caught the pillow before it hit him and walked towards the bed slowly. He then placed the cushion behind Lucia’s back, helping her get into a comfortable position, and leaned closer to her to k**s her gently.
“Wildcat, I’ll come back and have lunch with you,” Malcolm said dryly. While Lucia was still dazed, he left the apartment.
And suddenly she felt like the room had become unusually empty. With a calm look, she tried to act as if she were a seriously disabled patient. Being bored, she flipped through a novel on her iPad and ate breakfast that Malcolm had specially prepared for her. Her body seemed to have lost its liveliness, and she felt as if her movements were those of a robot.
Suddenly she noticed her phone ringing. She excitedly dropped her iPad and picked up the phone to see the text message.
“Lucia, we are coming to visit you this morning. »
It was a text from Hayes, and Lucia couldn’t wait to respond. “Malcolm, you don’t let me do anything work-related, but I can’t say no to people who want to visit me,” Lucia thought with a smug smile. Her gloom was gone and she felt happy.
At exactly 9 o’clock that morning, Hayes, Meade and Chester entered his room. But to his surprise, behind them stood their boss, Lloyd.
“Lucia, you look like you’re having fun here,” Hayes said without thinking.
” Cleared! You get your calf cut, and I’ll pay you to enjoy it,” Lucia said scornfully.
“Hayes, stop being so rude,” Lloyd said with a serious expression as he glared at Hayes.
And the next moment, Hayes was silent. When they inquired about Lucia’s room at reception, they were surprised to learn that she was in one of the VIP departments. There were still patients waiting to get a regular room at the hospital, while Lucia was able to get a VIP room for herself. When they arrived at his room, they were shocked to see bodyguards stationed outside his door. The bodyguards greeted them with a smile before returning to their posts. Even after entering the room, the four men remained stunned.
“Lucia, how are you now?” And what did the doctor say? Lloyd asked on behalf of the others.
“It’s nothing too serious. I will feel better after resting for a few days. » Lucia shrugged casually. It was clear she wasn’t taking her injury seriously.
“Don’t worry about work. I will ask them to complete whatever they have to do. I’ll make sure everything goes well while you’re gone. » Lloyd comforted her because he knew that Lucia was a person with a great sense of responsibility, who would care more about her work than herself.
“By the way, did the filming go well yesterday?” » Lucia hurriedly said, suddenly remembering something.
“Well, don’t get me started on that. After you left, we waited for Ella, but guess what? She didn’t come either. Later, we received a call from her agency, and they informed us that she had been in a car accident and was in a coma. Long story short, the shoot was completely ruined,” Meade screamed. He still hadn’t digested what had happened the day before.
” Are you serious? What do we do now? » Lucia felt a headache. “Why did these bad things happen at the same time? »
“You don’t have to worry about all that. Just rest well and take care of yourself. I’ll take care of it,” Lloyd assured him.
” Alright. And the man in the peaked hat? » Lucia was furious when she thought of the lamp that had almost killed her.
“You were right, Lucia. This man does not belong to any of the three companies. However, strangely, he had a work badge, so security let him in even though they didn’t know him. The CCTV cameras at the entrance filmed it, but it was not clear enough. » Hayes explained everything he had discovered so far.
“Lucia, the Evans Group is investigating this matter, so don’t worry too much. Come to work as soon as you feel better. Your team needs you,” Lloyd said matter-of-factly before gesturing for the others to leave with him. He wanted Lucia to rest a little more.
After nodding to him and saying goodbye to Lucia, his teammates followed Lloyd out of the hospital. Maybe it’s her illness, or maybe it’s the IV the nurse gave her that made Lucia sleepy. Very quickly, she fell asleep, leaning against the headboard.
In the office of the CEO of the Evans Group
Malcolm stood by the French windows and looked out, hands in his pockets, at the busy road traffic below him. He calmly waited for Kaleb to report to him on the investigation.
“Is he really that impatient?” » Malcolm muttered under his breath.
“Have you found the one behind all this?” » Malcolm turned and looked at Kaleb, who was in front of his desk.
“Not yet,” Kaleb replied respectfully.
Quietly, Malcolm walked over to his desk to sit down and tapped his fingers on the desk to signal him to continue.
“Miss Garcia was not accidentally hit by the lamp. Someone deliberately placed her there to kill her. He didn’t think she would react so quickly. The injury only affected the calf. If her plan had worked, she would have died or entered a vegetative state. But strangely, the security guards never arrested him even though they had never seen him before. This only indicates that it must have been some sort of planned murder. » After pausing, Kaleb continued, “However, Ella’s attack was due to a suicidal person. The driver of Ella’s car is dead. She and her agent were seriously injured, but her assistant did not suffer major trauma in the accident thanks to her protection. The other car was seriously damaged. The driver was the only person in the car, and he died instantly. According to the information we’ve gathered so far, the person who attacked Miss Garcia wanted to kill her, but the person responsible for Ella’s accident was just trying to stop the filming of the movie. »
After explaining everything to Malcolm, Kaleb stood aside while waiting for his orders.
“You can leave now. Strengthens security for her. Something like this should never happen again,” Malcolm said indifferently as he waved Kaleb out of his office.
With a respectful nod, Kaleb left.
Head bowed, Malcolm spun his leather chair around, lost in thought. His expression darkened and a hint of coldness crossed his eyes. He quickly got up and grabbed his car keys to go out.
As he drove through the city in his Land Rover, villas came into view. There were very luxurious villas in the mountain region. They were all very far from each other. The Evans family mansion was one of them, but instead of going there, Malcolm headed straight to Howell’s house.
Although he was driving at such a speed, he didn’t seem to be impatient at all. In fact, it seemed like he was born to drive at such speeds. After a quick and uneventful car ride, he reached Howell’s villa. The security guards, having seen Malcolm’s car, did not stop him. Malcolm parked his car in front of the villa and walked straight in.
That’s when he noticed Howell waiting for him at the door. However, Malcolm didn’t seem surprised at all. It was clear that security guards had informed Howell.
“I haven’t seen you in a while, Howell. You look in great shape,” Malcolm said coldly.
“What brings you to my humble abode? “, Howell said with a smile.
“Grandma told me you had a really good collection of teas, so I came here to try some,” Malcolm said flatly.
“She must have exaggerated. I’m afraid my teas won’t suit your refined palate. » After these words, Howell burst out laughing.
He then walked inside with Malcolm behind him. Sitting at the tea table, Howell began to prepare a pot of tea. When he was ready, he poured it into a cup and placed it in front of Malcolm. Picking up the cup of tea, Malcolm smelled the aroma and took a small sip.
“It’s okay,” Malcolm praised with a smile.
“Howell, Grandma is worried about my marriage, right? »
“Well, she’s somewhat radical. After all, there are only two years left until you turn thirty-five. She wants to get there, taking into account the family’s rules. Don’t blame him. » Even though Howell didn’t understand Malcolm’s true intention, he still gave him an explanation.
“You must have heard about what happened at the studio yesterday, right? What do you think of that? » Malcolm’s eyes darkened as he quickly changed the subject.
Howell’s sweaty palms shook as he poured the tea into another cup. But then he returned to his usual calm. Malcolm was unfathomable. If he wasn’t careful, he risked falling into Malcolm’s trap.
“I am an old man who has not been active for a long time now. But I believe that what happened to Miss Garcia was nothing more than a simple accident. After all, she doesn’t have a conflict with anyone. Who would even want to hurt him? Howell tried to ask casually.
“You’re the one who created our company’s security system. » As Malcolm suddenly changed the subject, Howell was caught off guard.
” Yes I did it. » Howell did his best not to show emotion and remain calm.
“But the suspect entered the studio without being questioned at all. A foreigner should have been investigated even if he had a professional badge, right? Malcolm’s voice was calm, and he studied Howell’s expression deeply.
“I guess it might be my responsibility.” “It’s my responsibility as the designer of the company’s security system,” Howell responded in a calm voice.
“Howell, you’re thinking too much. I have things to do, so I’m going to leave. The discussion with you was very enriching for me. I hope we can do this again. » After finishing his tea, Malcolm stood up and said goodbye.
Howell accompanied him to the gate and only felt relieved when Malcolm left. As he was about to break away from Malcolm’s interrogation, he began to sweat profusely. For a second he wondered if what he was doing was worth it, but the next second that thought vanished.
“Malcolm, you’re the one making me do all this. »
“Sean, I want her dead.” The Evans family would lose all hope,” Howell muttered to Sean, who was standing in a dark corner.
“Yes, sir,” Sean replied.
The night before, Howell had learned from Sean that their foolproof plan to kill Lucia had failed. He was determined not to give her the slightest chance of survival. He wanted things to end perfectly.
