It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 9
The days passed. Malcolm seemed to have completely disappeared from Lucia’s life. She lived simply, as usual. She went to work, left work, came home and ate a simple meal. There was nothing special about her life.
This week was a period of waiting.
As it was Friday, the day the results were due to be published, the employees of DZ Media were all tense with anticipation. Lloyd kept updating the company email page, hoping to see the results in their inboxes. In the event that DZ Media was selected, the Evans Group would send them an email and ask them to come to their company to sign the contract.
It was the first time that the lively DZ Media had been so calm and serious. As the time passed, the office remained silent.
In the Evans Group
“DZ Media?” asked Enoch after examining the document his secretary, Sybil Zhang, handed him.
“Yes. According to the sales department’s complete assessment, we’re going to entrust the promotion of the launch of our new perfume ‘Lure’ to DZ Media,” said Sybil in a polite tone.
“Why?” asked Enoch.
“DZ Media is a company that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Despite its small size, its strength is considerable. They’ve also handled promotions for various other international brands and some of S City’s biggest brands. Since we’re specifically targeting the Asian market this time round, companies from Europe and America are not popular with the Asian culture and population, whereas DZ media is a local company that knows our target consumers well. What’s more, it’s a very dynamic company. After considering all these factors, the sales department decided that DZ Media would be the best choice for us.”
Sybil quickly explained.
“I see. Has the CEO seen the results yet?” asked Enoch, remembering something.
“Bob has instructed me to tell you that you will make the final decision on all company matters this week. He told me not to disturb the CEO unless it’s something extremely important,” Sybil said slowly and patiently.
“Has my brother gone mad? Where is he now?” Enoch was clearly surprised to hear this.
“I have no idea!” replied Sybil.
Enoch took out his pen and quickly signed the document. As a rule, senior members of the Evans Group never interfered with decisions made by their subordinates. They always trusted their employees, that was their motto.
Shortly after Sybil left her office, Enoch rushed into Malcolm’s office. “Since Malcolm is in the company, why did he put me in charge of making decisions?” He was about to push open the door and enter, but after a second’s thought, he decided to knock first. Only after hearing Malcolm’s reply did he open the door and enter the office.
“Malcolm! Why are you putting me in charge of decisions while you’re here?” asked Enoch bluntly.
“Well, do you have an objection?” Malcolm remained impassive. He sat at his desk, tapping his fingers, not even bothering to look at him. His gaze was riveted on the results of the assessment he held in his hand.
“Umm, no. I’m just curious why a workaholic like you would suddenly give up his job?” said Enoch, feeling offended.
“That seems understandable. Tell me, would you like to trade places with me? I’ll take your job, and you can take mine. What do you think?” asked Malcolm, closing the folder and looking at his brother, arms crossed over his chest.
“No, thanks. You keep your job, and I’ll keep mine.” Enoch was getting ready to leave. His brother had been behaving strangely lately, but he couldn’t say anything for fear of offending him. If he said something Malcolm didn’t like, then he’d have to suffer the consequences. And Enoch wasn’t the kind of man who was willing to participate in such risky games.
“By the way, Malcolm, Grandma misses you.” Enoch suddenly remembered the main reason he’d come.
“Grandma? Tell her I’ll be home when I can,” Malcolm replied in a cold voice, frowning.
“All right. I’ll be going, then.” With a nod, Enoch left the CEO’s office.
Lately, Malcolm had seemed a little off to him. Enoch would rather work than offend him. If he annoyed Malcolm, not only would he have to work harder, but he might also get shredded by his own brother.
“We’ll see you again soon, Lucia,” Malcolm mused as he got up and headed for the French windows, to admire the view of S Town. It had now been a week since he had been cold to Lucia. He hadn’t made contact with her. Lucia obviously didn’t have his contact details, but from the reports he was receiving, she was living her life as usual.
“Would she be able to handle the future she might have to face?”
Standing there, Malcolm was in a daze.
In DZ Media
“Oh my God! We got it! We’ve been selected!” Lloyd screamed like a madman as he ran out of his office in excitement.
“What’s going on? Lloyd?” Hayes was the first person to ask.
“The Evans Group sent us a letter of confirmation. We got the planning project,” Lloyd said excitedly.
“No way!”
Everyone at DZ Media was jumping for joy. Just as they were starting to feel desperate, they received an incredible offer. It meant that DZ Media was now an internationally recognized company.
They no longer needed to rely on other companies for promotions or advertising. They had won the planning project on their own, and they would see it through on their own. If the project was successful, DZ Media would soon become an international company.
They had worked hard for the past two months. When they achieved such a remarkable result, they shouted with joy. Lucia’s colleagues lifted her off the ground and threw her into the air before catching her. It was a lively day of celebration for them.
“This afternoon, I’ll be heading to Evans Group to sign the contract, and once that’s done, I’ll treat you to dinner for all your hard work!” said Lloyd with a warm smile.
“And don’t forget our trip to Europe!” said Meade with a whistle.
“As soon as the project is completed, each of you will have a two-week vacation. You can choose any country you’d like to visit, and the company will pay for it,” Lloyd promised wholeheartedly.
“Oh, that’s great!”
2 p.m. sharp. Lloyd arrived at the Evans Group sales department with his secretary to sign the contract. “Mr. Li
Li, I’ve heard a lot about you and your company’s work in the media sector. I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with you,” said Holden, Evans Group’s commercial department manager, in a professional tone.
“Well, I couldn’t be more honored to hear that. Thank you for giving us this opportunity.” Lloyd’s formal tone was no match for Holden’s.
“Here’s the contract. Please read the document carefully and let me know if there’s any problem.” With that, Holden handed Lloyd a document.
In sending the confirmation letter to DZ Media, they had also sent a copy of the contract with it. It was only a formality for them to double-check the contract now. Once they were satisfied with it, they could sign it.
“I’ve read the contract and I think it’s impeccable. I admire the care your company takes in producing this type of documentation. I’m convinced that our cooperation will be fruitful. By the way, are you in charge of this cooperation with us?” Lloyd finalized the contract after reading it one last time.
“No, I’m not. I’m only in charge of getting you to sign the contract. Our senior management consider this to be a very important collaboration, so our deputy general manager will personally take charge of it. After all, this is the first time the Evans Group has launched a fragrance product, and we naturally hope it will be a great success in the marketplace. But don’t worry, our deputy CEO is a very relaxed and easy-going man, so you’ll have no problem getting on with him,” Holden explained.
“Are you talking about Monsieur Enoch Evans?” After thinking for a while, Lloyd was finally sure it was him.
Enoch was the only member of the Evans family who often appeared in the media. He was currently deputy managing director of the Evans Group. Outsiders didn’t know what Malcolm, the CEO, looked like.
Lloyd was a little surprised to discover that Enoch was in charge of the project. He expected DZ Media to be under a lot of pressure, as the deputy general manager would be overseeing their cooperation.
“Yes, I’m talking about Mr. Enoch. Do you have any questions about that, Mr. Li?” Holden wanted to make sure everything was perfect before they signed the document.
“No, I don’t. It’s just that It’s just that I’m a little surprised.”
After these words, hastily affixing his signature to the contract, Lloyd took the DZ Media company seal from his secretary and affixed it to the document before handing it to Holden. Making sure there were no errors on the document, Holden affixed the Evans Group seal to both copies before handing one to Lloyd.
“Mr. Li, a very good cooperation to us.” Holden’s tone was friendly as he extended his hand to Lloyd.
“I hope we can both work happily together.”
“By the way, Mr. Li, our company is hosting a wine tasting this weekend to promote the perfume launch. Among the guests expected at the event are well-known celebrities from the S City and around the world. Here’s the invitation to the party. We would like you and the planning team to attend the party. I hope it will help you get some ideas about the project.” With that, Holden handed Lloyd the invitation as if it had just popped into his head.
“We’d be delighted to join the party. Thank you for the opportunity.” Smiling, Lloyd took the invitation from him.
After his farewell, Lloyd left the Evans Group with his secretary. Holden let out a sigh of relief. He knew that the sales department had chosen DZ Media to handle the project, but he couldn’t understand why senior management was so concerned about such small things. The Evans Group often held such wine parties, and he couldn’t understand why senior management would insist on inviting DZ Media.
In the meantime, Lloyd returned to DZ Media. He showed the contract to his employees and explained everything Holden had told him about cooperation. The whole office immediately went wild.
“Wow! Evans Group wine tasting parties are awesome! Most of the guests at this party are celebrities. I’m really glad we were invited. It would be a great opportunity to expand our knowledge. By the way, the party is very exclusive. It would be impossible to get in without an official invitation. We’re very lucky to be able to attend such an event,” said an excited Meade.
“Are the executives coming to the party too? If so, we’ll all be under a lot of pressure.”
Everyone at DZ Media was all about the party. It was almost as if they were raving about it.
This weekend would be a day to look forward to.
