Chapter 318
Millie made cobb salad, garlic butter shrimp, pumpkin soup, and lastly, baked salmon.
“I’ll serve the risotto. Take a seat, Grandma,” Millie told Selma.
Selma sighed before saying, “Mills, about Joanna and Winston’s proposal-”
“Grandma, if you ask me, you should just let them be. After all, Winston genuinely likes Joanna.” Millie’s voice carried from the kitchen and was a bit louder.
Displeasure clouded Selma’s face at once as she asked, “Are you serious?”
At that moment, someone pushed open the door, and she turned to look.
Millie emerged with the risotto. “Grandma, let them be together-”
But when she stepped out, she realized Selma wasn’t by the table. Just as she was about to set the plate down, she noticed someone coming in the door.
Millie paused, her words faltering as she met the person’s gaze.
“Mr. Greer,” she greeted. Her voice was calm, yet there was a hint of surprise.
Winston frowned slightly. He, too, was taken aback to see Millie there.
Suddenly, Millie drew in a sharp breath. The risotto was piping hot! So, she hurriedly placed it on the table and touched her ears.
Winston stepped forward and asked cautiously, “Are you alright?”
Millie hurriedly nodded in response.
“Grandma texted me. She said she wasn’t feeling well, Winston explained as he pulled out his phone. He was ready to show her the message from his grandmother.
A moment later, it hit him that he had been tricked. Selma had deliberately lured him back home.
“Oh, Grandma did go to the hospital for a check–up today. But it was nothing serious,” Millie replied. She then took off her apron and glanced around. Finally, she saw Selma coming out of the bathroom.
The second Selma saw Winston, she scoffed. “What took you so long?”
Millie pressed her lips together while Selma went to the kitchen and returned with an extra set of utensils.
“Shall we have lunch together?” she asked Millie and Winston,
Winston looked at the spread on the table and instantly knew Millie had prepared all the dishes. She enjoyed making garlic butter shrimp but was too lazy to peel them.
“Say something! Selma urged, tapping the table and staring at the two people on either side who stood there like statues.
Winston hummed in agreement before pulling out a chair.
“Grandma, since Mr. Greer is back, I’ll head back to the hospital now.” Millie wiped her fingers with a napkin as she prepared to leave.
Winston hadn’t even settled into his seat when he rose again. Was she really leaving?

Selma, with her spirits lifted, was about to pick up her spoon. However, her expression fell instantly when Millie announced she was leaving.
“Both of you are divorced, but you’re not enemies. Can’t we just have a meal together?” Selma slammed her spoon on the table with a loud thud.
In a flash, the atmosphere turned tense.
Millie knew that once she entered the Greer residence, it would be almost impossible to leave. “Grandma, I only took the morning off. I really need to get back to work,” she explained gently.
Selma lowered her head and stayed silent. After a moment, she said, “Fine, if everyone’s so busy, just go! I’m getting old and no one wants to be around me anymore. All I wanted was some company for lunch, but everyone’s coming up with excuses!”
At that point, Selma was genuinely upset. Millie was the only one who always spent time with her and didn’t care about her age. Yet, Winston had managed to drive Millie away.
Selma set down her spoon and stood up abruptly. “I’m not eating anymore! I won’t beg any of you to stay!”
Seeing Selma’s distress, Millie felt a pang of helplessness. She had seemed so happy earlier, but now, Millie’s choice to leave had dampened the old lady’s spirits.
A myriad of emotions flickered in Winston’s eyes as he looked at Millie. “Millie, Grandma has always treated you well,” he commented.
Millie couldn’t help but sigh repeatedly internally. Of course, she knew how kind Selma had been to her,
