Chapter 320

“Why are you telling me this?” Millie asked, bewildered. Did Winston really believe she still cared about him? Or did he want to see her jump with joy because he had rejected Joanna?

“Do you have nothing to say?” Winston asked, feeling both astonished and frustrated.

Millie glanced at him sideways and retorted, “Well, what do you want me to say? Great? Wonderful?”

Winston’s gaze darkened right away. As he stared at Millie, he realized for the first time that he no longer knew her. She seemed like a stranger.

He even wondered if she was still the Millie who had followed him around, calling him “Win“. How had she become so cold? Millie behaved as though Winston meant nothing to her.

“Millie, are you still mad that I misunderstood you?” asked Winston.

When Millie flung the evidence at him in the hospital, it was clear she had been holding a grudge all this time.

“You’re reading too much into it.” Millie cast a quick look at him before walking out.

Winston turned, his eyes following her frail figure. Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation in his chest.

Millie truly didn’t care about him anymore. Even when Joanna proposed to him, and Millie witnessed it the night before, she was merely a spectator watching the drama unfold.

In the

past, she would’ve stormed in to disrupt the whole thing. Millie would’ve called Joanna shameless, maybe even slapped her. Then, she would turn to Winston and ask if he could stop loving Joanna and give her some of that love instead.

At that moment, Millie was beside the couch, giving Selma a massage. Despite her smile, she projected a sense of distance.

Feeling overwhelmed, Winston grabbed his suit jacket and wanted to leave.

“Where are you going?” Selma suddenly stopped him.

Winston spun on his heel, his gaze landing on Millie. Yet, her body was angled away from him as she continued to massage Selma. She showed no interest in his departure.

“I’m going to replace Joanna,” he said calmly. It seemed like he deliberately wanted Millie to hear his words.

However, Millie remained still. She didn’t even bother to raise her head.

Just as Selma was about to admonish Winston, Millie gently advised, “Grandma, don’t get upset. If he wants to go, let him. There’s no need to keep stopping him. It’s not worth getting yourself worked up over it.

Selma’s face turned red with anger. “Mills, this-”

“Grandma, if you truly care about him, you must want him to be happy, right? And if he marries the woman he loves, he’ll surely be happy. If you really want what’s best for him, just let him go.”

Her voice was soft and gentle, like a breeze. But her calm tone and attitude struck Winston deeply.

He gripped his suit jacket tightly. His frustration was so intense he felt as though he could ground his

teeth to dust.

Not only did Millie show no concern about him going to replace Joanna, but she also helped persuade Selma to let him leave.

When Millie finally looked at Winston, she said, “Grandma’s not stopping you anymore. Why don’t you get going?”

Winston’s heart pounded harder. It was as if he were on the brink of losing control.

He swallowed hard, feeling an intense urge to break through Millie’s stubborn facade. In the next instant, he strode over to her, grabbed her by the arm, and started dragging her to the door.

“What are you doing?” Millie struggled, but her efforts were futile against his strength.

Then, she called out to Selma for help. “Grandma!”
