Chapter 414
Winston was about to offer to buy the bag for Joanna.
At that moment, the sales associate informed Joanna, “Sorry, Ms. Lowell, but Ms. Caldwell has already bought this bag. This is the only one we have.”
Joanna frowned when she heard that. Millie, on the other hand, pursed her lips. She couldn’t help but replace the situation amusing. Their shared tastes in dresses, bags, and men were just infuriating.
“I’m sorry, but this bag is mine,” Millie said with a gentle smile.
Joanna’s frown deepened when she caught a hint of smugness in Millie’s eyes. She tightened her hold on Winston’s arm. It was merely a bag. What was there to boast about? After all, she had Winston.
Seeing Joanna’s hand tightly gripping Winston’s arm, Millie felt a wave of conflicted emotions. She had gained everything, yet she had lost the man she loved. She couldn’t tell if her situation was a victory or a defeat.
The more Joanna looked at Millie, the more irritated she grew.
“Ms. Caldwell, your bag is ready,” the sales associate announced.
Millie nodded in acknowledgment. Just as she was about to pay for it, Winston stepped forward and offered, “I’ll handle it.”
Millie’s hand, which was about to hand over her credit card, was abruptly stopped. She looked up to see Winston presenting his black card instead.
After a brief pause, she glanced back instinctively. Joanna’s expression had turned as dark as it could possibly be.
Joanna clenched her right hand into a fist, baffled by Winston’s decision to pay for Millie. He even pushed her hand away to make the payment.
She bit her lip, suppressed her dissatisfaction, and approached Winston. Smiling at Millie, she remarked, ” Win is giving this to you, so you should accept it. You were once married to him, after all.”
Millie narrowed her eyes, while Joanna continued, “Even though you’re divorced, you’re still friends. It’s nothing for Win to give you two bags. Don’t be pressured, Millie.”
Millie said nothing.
Winston frowned slightly and commented in a low voice, “There’s nothing more to it. Don’t overthink.”
Joanna immediately held onto Winston’s arm, her displeasure written on her face. She tried to establish her dominance as his future wife, but it was obvious he wasn’t backing her up.
“That won’t be necessary. Thank you, Mr. Greer.”
Millie returned Winston’s card before passing hers to the sales associate. “Charge it to mine, please,” she said calmly.
Winston’s lips parted to say something. However, upon seeing Millie’s cold demeanor, he wisely chose to stay silent.

In a daze, his thoughts drifted to the first year of their marriage. Millie would drag him along to go shopping, but she was always so careful.

Winston never paid for anything, and he never once fulfilled his role as a husband. He couldn’t deny that he felt guilty toward Millie.
As he stared at her retreating figure, his gaze dimmed, and a wave of indescribable emotions washed over him. An overwhelming sense of guilt gnawed at Winston.
“Win,” Joanna called out softly.
Winston turned to look at her. “Yeah?”
“Are you going to leave with her?” Joanna asked, her voice tinged with disappointment.
Winston kept his eyes on Millie, and Joanna couldn’t shake the feeling that he was emotionally distant. It was as if his attention was slipping away with her.
“What do you want? I’ll buy it for you.” Winston avoided the question.
Joanna bit her lip and scoffed. “I don’t want to be a trophy wife. I can buy things for myself too.”
Winston’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Are you upset?”
Seeing his smile, Joanna continued to act coy. “Hmph!”
After all, it was not often she got to see him smile.
“Alright, I’ll buy everything for you, okay?”
Having said that, Winston handed his credit card to the sales associate and said calmly, “Wrap it all up and have them delivered to the Lowell Manor.”
As Joanna observed him, a surge of possessiveness welled up within her. She silently vowed to hold onto Winston even tighter.
Right then, Winston’s phone suddenly chimed. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was a text. Paxton: “Uncle Winston, Millie just asked me out for a meal!”
