the

Winston was getting more and more anxious as he drove toward ” airport. Despite knowing it was not far, he couldn’t seem to reach it. As Millie’s departure time approached, he realized that he was still nowhere near the airport.

Winston’s emotions swelled, and he reached for the phone once more.

The relentless rain outside seemed to mock him, as if it was aware that

he had done something wrong and was now punishing him.

He didn’t receive a response to his text message, nor did he receive a callback. Winston called again but received a reply saying that the number was no longer in service.

She was truly determined to leave and had even canceled her number. He couldn’t believe it. Millie had kept that number since high school, and the very first number she saved in her phone was Winston’s.

At that time, she was still young. She sat in front of him and said with a smile, “Remember this, Win. This is my number.”

“I don’t want to keep memorizing the phone number since it’s frequently changing,” he said.

Millie frowned and stated firmly, “If you memorize it, I won’t change it.”

Winston gazed at her with a smile. “Are you sure?”

“Of course!”

Moreover, on the day Millie married him, she felt like she owned the whole world, full of happiness. However, he shattered all her joy by throwing the divorce agreement at her.

He couldn’t forget the transformation in Millie’s expression, from initially shy and happy to later turning confused and incredulous. Ultimately, she lowered her head, her hands trembling as she held the

divorce agreement.

She repeatedly claimed that she would make him love her. He responded by telling her repeatedly to stop dreaming because she didn’t deserve it. Each word he uttered was colder than the relentless downpour. The thought of it pained Winston deeply.

He accelerated the car again while heavy rain hit the windows, causing a loud noise. Unbeknownst to him, a tear rolled down from the corner of

his eye.

This tear was shed solely for Millie. In his entire life, he had never cried for anyone else. In that instant, Winston realized his true feelings.

He had grown accustomed to Millie without even realizing it. Since Millie agreed to a divorce, and he lost control and kissed her, his heart remained with her, in that villa without her. He had truly fallen for her.

Suddenly, a loud bang sounded from the windshield. In an instant, Winston witnessed the windshield shatter before his eyes.

The car came to an abrupt halt, propelling Winston forward and causing his forehead to collide forcefully with the steering wheel. Moments later, the car’s hazard lights flickered amidst the pouring rain, leaving only the wipers to wipe in the heavy rain.

Winston was standing in front of the car, trying to reach Eli, but to no avail. He was frustrated, and the cold rain in October made him shiver.

He forced a bitter smile and hit the engine hard. The words he used to hurt Millie and make Joanna happy were now coming back to haunt him. Then, he removed the stone stuck on the windshield and entered the car.

Winston glanced at the time displayed on the dashboard and sighed in despair. Millie’s flight was set to depart in just half an hour.

She should have been at the security checkpoint, ready to board. But

even if he rushed there in thirty minutes, it would already be too late.

Winston felt defeated as he lowered his head. Besides, he couldn’t continue driving as the car broke down.

This was the first time Winston believed in karma, something he had never truly believed in before. But now, he had truly felt its impact.
