Chapter 500
This tragedy had triggered widespread concern among people on the Internet.
Someone even stated, “I truly hope Madam Layla is fine. I’ve personally witnessed the project she’s currently involved in, and it’s outstanding. If it succeeds, she will undoubtedly be someone we all should look up to!”
“Even if it doesn’t work, I still think she’s amazing. If she can really bring a vegetative patient back to life, think about how many hopeless families she could save.”
As Millie read the comments, her sadness deepened. It was disheartening to see someone who genuinely cared about her country and had good intentions for everyone be overlooked by fate.
Suddenly, tears stained her phone screen, and Millie realized that she was weeping. As she thought ab the supplementary card Layla had given her before leaving, Millie burst into tears. At that moment, she was unable to hold back her emotions any longer.
Even Layla probably didn’t anticipate getting seriously injured so quickly while Millie was away.
Millie tossed her phone on the table, wrapped her arms around herself, and tried not to cry out loud. But when she pictured Layla lying in the hospital bed, she couldn’t control herself anymore
She couldn’t pinpoint whether it was Layla’s injury or the long–awaited revelation of her past grievances that caused her to break down in tears. Nevertheless, she found herself unable to contain her emotions, and she began to cry uncontrollably.
She wondered when she started feeling so drained. It might have been the day she fell in love with Winston.
Millie wiped her tears while searching for a way to save Layla’s arm. However, all the results indicated that it was an impossible task. This made her cry even harder and feel heartbroken. In the end, she angrily smashed her phone against the screen.
The high–tech screen shattered in an instant, and vibrant cracks splintered across it. Despite having influence in the dark web and owning the M Base, she found herself unable to do anything.
She could save others, but she couldn’t save Layla..
Millie lay on the table, unable to contain her emotions once more.
Julia poured a glass of water in the VIP ward, then turned to face Arthur, who sat beside the bed. Arthur hadn’t slept for an entire day and hadn’t even taken a sip of water.
This incident had deeply affected the Caldwell family.
Layla’s condition had not been made public yet. Many of her lab colleagues had expressed their support, leaving Julia unsure of how to react. In addition, some of her friends had even come to the hospital to visit Layla, but the Caldwells had declined their visit.
Julia let out a sigh as she approached the bedside and offered Arthur a glass of water. “Dad, please have some water.”

Arthur silently shook his head. Although he remained silent, his composure remained unshaken, devoid of any signs of irritation. He was waiting for Layla to wake up.
The loss of an arm wasn’t a big deal to him as long as Layla was still alive. They didn’t have many years left, but as long as they could be together until old age, that was all that mattered.
Arthur wanted Layla to die peacefully in his arms, not in an accident. The mere contemplation of this brought tears streaming down his face. Arthur, who was now 70 years old, discreetly wiped his tears away, causing Julia to feel worried.
Terrence opened the door with his unshaven beard and red eyes. He was holding dinner and muttered, “I bumped into the Greers.”
“The Greers?”
“Yeah. Mrs. Greer Senior asked about Mom’s current condition, but I didn’t tell her. If you see her, don’t tell her either.”
“Why are they in the hospital?” Julia whispered.
Terrence responded in a hushed tone, “Oh. It appears that Winston is in the hospital and has slipped into
a coma.”
