LOST
An Empty Sheath

“Actually, there was something else we wanted to ask you, but my partner and I would feel more comfortable if we weren’t in a dark alley while we talked.”

Zachary was not stupid. He knew he was a suspect. As far as he could tell, he had two options. The first one, which was barely feasible, was to disappear into a flock of ravens and hope the two cops would be too scared to report it. The second and far smarter one, was to use the situation to his advantage—cooperate, go to the police station, answer whatever questions they needed answered, however he needed to answer them, and then see if he could replace Mr. Scott.

Zachary decided cooperation was the best thing to do at this point. “Not a problem. What’s this about?” he said, doing a fine job of acting ignorant as they walked out of the alley toward the squad car.
