Love and Chaos Series -
The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 11
A week later,
Xavier's eyes opened in bed, his arms still wrapped around Zara whom he had fallen asleep with last night. Her messed-up blonde hair fell onto her back and a few on his hands. A smile came into his face as he heard her mumbling something to herself and his hand came up to stroke her face tenderly. This made her squirm and turn around and as she does this, her eyes fluttered and those amazing orbs of hers met his.
"My king." she breathed and a small smile came into her face.
"My love," he replied, leaning in and kissing her soft lips.
She sighed and kissed back, her hands wrapping around him and pulling him closer. Her hand slid underneath the bedsheets and she found his shaft throbbing and stretching, getting turned on already. She grinned mischievously at him before pulling him towards her. She eased up to guide him inside.
They share a passionate kiss as they collapsed from the heights. A few minutes passed and Zara pulled away from their loving embrace and picked up her robe on the floor beside the bed. Xavier almost whined at the loss, but he kept himself occupied with watching her get ready.
"I have to leave, the sun is coming up," she threw on her veil after putting on her sandals.
Xavier groaned and threw his head onto the pillow, his teeth gritting. "Can't you stay awhile longer?"
"You said that three hours ago, and we did, but now I need to leave."
He threw the sheets off his body and rose to his feet. "It's because I don't want you to leave me," he muttered, wrapping his hand around her waist and pulling her back against his chest.
"I am not leaving you. I going home because last I checked, this isn't my home."
The comfort Suite was a private hotel Xavier and Zara met up in whenever she didn't want him at her home. She liked being spontaneous and trying new things with them, and as long as he had her, he was satisfied.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. "I wish you could come home with me."
"I can't and we both know why."
"Yes, but I did what I did to protect you, to protect us."
She spun around to gaze into his eyes, "And I love you for that, but this is the reality of what you have done."
"I have a plan, I will convince my father and have him take back his curse as soon as he wakes from his sleep. It won't be far now." it was still many months away, but time didn't matter to him, only Zara did. She wore a blinding smile. "And your queen? What will become of her?"
"You are my queen, the only queen I know." he leaned in and kissed her lips passionately.
Xavier strolled into the courtyard in the Palace, his hands locked at the back. He needed the space to be alone; he didn't want to be around people, especially his wife.
After a week of being married, the thought still didn't sit. That's because he didn't want to be married, especially to someone like her, to begin with.
She had been quiet throughout the last week. Perhaps she still grieved the loss of her sister. Or perhaps she had taken his threats to heart and realised the need to act accordingly in order to save herself.
Most days had gone by without him seeing a trace of her anywhere in the palace and those days were good. His guards fed him information about her wellbeing and faring and that was more than enough for him. Whenever she came downstairs for breakfast, she'd stay quiet and eat her food. And whenever Edward asked for her opinion on a matter, she either declined to speak or agreed with the alpha king.
She was smart. He would give her that, once or twice, he had walked past the garden and found her reading a book. She didn't gawk at the mirror or behold herself like other maidens would, probably because there was nothing lovely to behold, so she read as much as she could and he liked that.
It made him want to change his mind about his plans though. His father would awaken from his sleep with the goddess in a few months. And everything had to be in line before then and that included his wife's demise.
He couldn't put her away. Putting her away would mean relinquishing his position as king. His father would hunt him down and have his head if the Royal bloodline ended with him. So, the only easy option was to kill her. He didn't have a choice; he wanted to be a free man again and this was the only way to go about it. Once she's dead, he would convince his father to retract the curse he had placed on the union of himself and Zara. She was the only woman who understood him, the only one she wanted to live with for the rest of his life. Of course, another option would be to convince his wife to have an affair with a random person in the kingdom, but the only thing he saw her having an affair with was her books.
"Life isn't as complicated as most of us make it seem, brother." the cringe voice of Edward drew Xavier out of his thoughts and into reality. He wanted to be alone, but his demon of a brother wouldn't let him have that. "You're not messing with my head again, are you?"
"I don't need to mess with your head to read you, brother. You're my brother and we grew up together and, to an extent, I can deduce a few things about you just by observing."
"Have you observed so far that I'm looking for the right time to sell you to the slave traders?" he asked with a raised brow, but not glancing at him.
Edward's lips press in thought, "Yes, I have, but you won't do that, because, underneath all this rage, cruelty and madness is a little boy who didn't get to have the woman he loved by his side." he answered.
Xavier's fist balled and his eyes flashed with red, after hearing what Edward just said. "You should watch your words brother, I am still king and..." he had his words cut off before he could finish.
"And you can have my head." he made a pff sound. "You may have made your wife believe those threats, but that won't work on me."
Xavier swerved his head to glance at his younger brother, whose face would look better mopping the floor. "I don't have to have your head always. I just have to make you suffer, and what is it with you and my wife? Don't think for a second I haven't noticed the two of you this past week" "We both live in the Palace and she's family now so friendship is bound to happen."
Xavier might be a good people reader, but so was he. They both had the ability, but while Edward advanced his ability by learning and training, Xavier never did. He couldn't. He was learning the principles of being a great king which so far hadn't helped him. However, he could still see right through his brother if he observed. "What else has happened that I don't know about, brother?" he asked, his concentration coming on Edward.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Sure, Edward. Do you want to lay with my wife?"
"What?!" he gave him a ridiculous look and shook his head. "No!"
"Tell me the truth. Do you want to sleep with your queen?"
Edward scoffed and backed a few steps from him. "You're unbelievable, Xavier, just because I appreciate her and don't treat her like filth doesn't mean I want to sleep with her. She's my brother's wife no matter what, and she's my queen." Xavier stepped towards him, "That's good to know." he palms his face and placed his head against his.
Yes, he wanted his wife to cheat on him with someone, anyone, but his brother would turn him into a laughingstock throughout the entire kingdom. He didn't want that.
He pulled his head away from Edward's. "Then stay away from her.."
"What... Why? I just told you I don't think of your wife in that way."
"I know."
"Then why?"
Because he didn't want Edward attached to the Queen. His attachment might become a problem when the time comes to do what's needful. He needed to get rid of the queen and didn't want to see his brother in misery after her departure. He couldn't tell Edward that, so he tried the easiest way. "Because she's my wife, not yours, that's why. And you may not want to sleep with her now, but the closer you remain with her, the more likely you would." Edward bowed his head. "As you wish, my king!"
