The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 41

***Flashback "Where is your brother?" Robb asked, stepping towards him with a scowl that showed how much displeasure he had from asking the question.

Just like always, Xavier was telling their father, f**k you, and Robb could do nothing about it. The relationship between Xavier and Robb had gotten worse after the death of the Queen and at this stage, there was no repairing it. Xavier would happily do as he pleased just because it was sunny and Robb would feel the more disappointed. Today was the feast of conquering, thrown to celebrate the victory that led to the Reign of the alpha king, Robb Ainsworth. The palace hall was crowded. Every noble and lord came to celebrate with the royals, yet Xavier absence seemed deliberate. Elliott Ainsworth stood behind him with a look of worry on his face, but Edward could read through it. He wasn't really worried. He hated Xavier just as much as Xavier hated him and Edward knew Elliott was probably praying Xavier never shows up. "I don't know, father," Edward answered, his voice low.

"When you replace him, tell him his chances of ever becoming alpha king, just got slimm-"

The door flew open that same minute and in walked Xavier in his black royal robe, with the golden collar. He looked slightly drunk and staggering on his steps. In his arms was a beautiful, tall woman with fair skin and blonde hair. They smiled fondly at each other, and Edward could tell he was smitten by her. This must be the reason he had been leaving the palace without proper explanation. She was his secret. Not anymore. They almost looked great together, but Edward noticed the look in the lady's eyes and the smile on her lips and the movement of her body. She wasn't as smitten by Xavier as he was with her. Perhaps he read her wrong, but he highly doubted it.

Xavier's rebellion was one thing, but this was taking rebellion onto another level.

Edward knew only the worse could come from this.

The eyes of everyone in the hall turned to him, all holding either shock or horror.

Robb's face became ripe with anger as he stared at his son and he stormed to him in the next second. "What the hell are you doing?"

"Alpha king," Xavier said, giving what appeared like a sloppy bow to Robb.

"What in the name of every mystical creation is this?!" Robb exploded and though the lady locked on Xavier's arms flinched at the hardness of his voice, he didn't.

"King, this is me bringing my lady, Zara Michel, home to meet you," he said, forming a complete sentence that came as a surprise to Edward.

Robb glared at him, then turned to the guard close by and beckoned to them. Uttering no word, the two of them stepped forth and captured Xavier's arms and locked them behind him. Xavier struggled and shook them off in a second, too powerful to be tamed by them.

The crowd gathered gasped in horror at the shameful show being put up by Xavier. That didn't stop him, though. The beast had been unleashed, and he was going to exact his wrath on them.

He pushed one guard to the ground and got on top of him, about to snap his neck, when Robb interrupted.

"You will stop this madness this instant!" Robb commanded and Xavier stopped, compelled by the authority of Robb's words, and his anger seized.

Xavier got up from on top of the guards and he ran up to arrange his armour.

"Take him away!" Robb commanded, and two more stepped forward and took him away from the hall.

Robb head wiped to Zara and cast her a glare. "What are you waiting for?"

Without being told, Elliott came up to Zara, whose eyes flashed with fear and he dragged her out of the hall.

Robb tendered an apology to the still horrified crowd, then made his way out of the hall and Edward followed behind. Posted by Narugi.com always visit us for more novels. He hurried his feet towards the inner chambers of the palace hall where Xavier's room was situated.

Once at the door, he pushed it open and stepped in. The guards were no longer in the room and Xavier looked a little sober compared to earlier, but that didn't deter Robb's anger.

"What was that you did in the hall?!" he thundered. "And who was that whore with you?"

"I'm sorry I came in drunk..." Xavier started in a reasonable tone.

Robb scoffed in disbelief and shook his head. "You're sorry."

"I am, father, but Zara isn't a whore. She's my lover," he spoke in her defence. "And I hope to marry her someday."

"Marry her and make her what? Queen?" he laughed, but no trace of humour appeared on his face.

"Yes, if that's what it takes, then I will do it. One of us has to be accountable for the women around us." his last word struck a nerve. Edward could tell Xavier's heart still bled from Robb's abandonment of their mother on her deathbed. He hadn't forgiven him yet. "You will never marry that whore. It would be over my dead body."

"I will wait until you're dead, then make her my queen, if that's what it takes." Xavier answer came fast and harsh.

"Then I curse your union with her from the rising of the sun to the setting of it! I curse the day of your union and I curse Zara Michel and I say on the day of her union with Xavier Ainsworth she shall lose her human form and become a wandering wolf until her dying day!" Robb finished, and the room became as silent as the graveyard.

Xavier's eyes flared blue as his anger kicked in, and he stared at Robb with unfathomable hatred. "I pray you die a horrible death, Robb Ainsworth. I hope you die in misery for all the pain and sorrow you caused me. And I hope your end comes with great loneliness and regret." he roared like a wounded animal and tears rolled down his face.

Robb turned his back and walked away from the room. Edward stood at the door, not knowing what to say or do at this moment. Xavier was in pain. Edward supported his father's intentions of keeping his son away from his lover, but he knew there were other ways that wouldn't have involved shattering Xavier's heart. The deed was done and nothing could change it except for Robb himself.

"What are you looking at?" Xavier snapped harshly. He didn't give Edward the chance to reply before he darted to the door and slammed it shut. Flashback ends***

Edward stepped out of his carriage once his escorts came to a stop. They had stopped moving once at the campsite where the members of alpha Koz's pack were. It's been over a month of travelling and finally, he had arrived at his destination.

Alpha Koz and his pack had pitched a tenth just outside of Klean, on their arrival over a week ago. A thick forest was a demarcation between the two Kingdom the middle of it, their borders. Alpha Koz didn't stop at the border, he took along with him two of his trusted betas along with him into the kingdom of Klean. The few pack members that stayed behind pitched the tent and waited for his return.

Their goal was to meet with prince Simone and propose a peace treaty. Alpha Koz convince the Prince that peace was what the new alpha king wanted and the young prince wanted the same. They shook hands and promised to keep the peace at their borders and remain welcoming neighbours. Prince Simone sent a letter with his seal on it to king Xavier, to honour their agreement.

Alpha Koz returned to the border, where the rest of his pack waited happily to see him alive and in one piece. Amongst those waiting were prince Edward Ainsworth and the Royal escorts.

He looked surprised to see them but knew they came in peace. He bowed his head in reverence for the prince and Edward returned the respect.

"To what do I owe this pleasant surprise, my prince?" he asked, his brow rising with interest as he stared at Edward once they stepped into the tent.

Edward cracked a brow. "My prince? Please, Edward is more than enough for me."

Alpha Koz moved to the folding desk, having a two-layer of scrolls and papers. "Always the noble brother," he said with an impressed tone, "why are you here?"

Edward stretched his hand out to Koz and the Royal letter holding the king's message was in it.

Koz scrutinised it after collecting it. "This letter came from the alpha king himself and it took you over a month to bring it?"

"Well, the Royal escorts came along with me."

Koz gave him a look that said that was ridiculous, and he had to agree. Alpha Koz had proven himself a few times to the crown. He had given advice which the king followed and also voted on the decision for the Capital three. But royal escorts just to bring him a message seemed too much. Still, Xavier was king and his words were law and had to be followed.

"The king wants you to return to the capital, where he believes you belong and manage things from there."

"I am not the alpha of the capital. Alpha Chike is."

"King Xavier doesn't trust Chike. He believes his loyalty can be swayed or better still bought with the right amount of gold."

"And you think mine can't?"

Edwards laughed confidently, "You're the alpha of the peace, truth and knowledge pack. Your reputation precedes you. You have helped the king make sound decisions in the past and that's why he wants you at close reach."

Koz broke the seal on the letter and read through before glancing up at Edward. "The letter details a coming war. Is that literally or figuratively?"

"You will have to break those words down. Some of us only started reading a few years ago, Alpha." Edward cracked.

Laughing, Koz rephrased, "The King spoke about the war in his letter. Is he talking about a physical one or one in his head? Because I'm looking around, and there's peace like never before."

"Perhaps, he wrote on instinct. I've known my bother for so long and most times, his instincts are correct."

"Fine. Let's say this is true. Why should I help the alpha king? Why should I choose him and not refuse his request? He attacked me on his wedding day and tried to rip out my heart. If you hadn't stepped in when you did, I'd have died! He forgot all the times I've been of service and help to the crown. He forgot just because he was angry. In my opinion, he isn't a better ruler. He's just like every other, ruled with rage, ridden with his ego."

"You're right, the king is an asshole. I'm his brother. I grew with him and I saw things that made me love and hate him all at the same time. You're also right. He's like the past kings with his rage and anger and lack of control for it, but with your counsel and guides, he can get better." "You believe that?"

"I believe you're more honest than Chike and that's what the alpha king needs. Our Father has awakened and the Lunar eclipse has taken place. Loyalty will shift and strive will be born and the alpha king needs those he can trust more than ever." "You believe him so much."

Edward sighed, "I do. The idiot is my brother."
