Love and Chaos Series -
The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 78
Xavier pull his hand away from Mia's temple and she gasped and stumbled back from him. She stared at Xavier, her heart pounding loudly in her chest.
She immediately felt remorseful having realised the truth, which she didn't see. She had thought the worse of him these past few days when what he did was protect her from danger.
He didn't kill those men in cold blood as she had initially thought. He killed them because they were on a mission. A mission to kill her and she had thought they were commoners travelling who lost their ways, but she was wrong. She had also called Xavier a monster and a cold-hearted beast, and she was wrong as well. She was grateful Xavier saved her life and remorseful for thinking the very worse of him in return. He was hurt. She didn't give him the benefit of a doubt, even after everything, and that hurt him. Her eyes were guilty as they stared at him. "Why didn't you just tell me that day?"
"I saw the way you looked at me and I realised you might never see me as anything more than a monster. It's what I deserve for what I put you through. It doesn't matter if you don't feel the same way I feel, but I will still protect you and fight your battles as your husband and king for as long as you're with me. And if I can, I still will, even when you're no longer with me."
She stepped towards him, and he stepped back from her. "I am sorry, Xavier for not giving you the benefit of a doubt like you deserved. I was quick to judge you and your intentions and I hope it's not too late to say sorry."
His eyes grew teary again, but he smiled, "I think this is the first time you've apologised to me genuinely."
"Yes, and that's because I was not wrong in all those others." She reached out to wipe the tears off his face.
She leaned in and her lips rested against his for a gentle kiss that bore witness to how she felt about him, even though it was harder to communicate with words.
He placed his arms around her waist, and he deepened the kiss.
They pulled away, and Mia placed a palm on his chest. "You look filthy. I still can't believe I kissed you."
He chuckled, "I still can't believe that either." then he reached out and stroked her face. "Thank you for coming in to see me. I was running crazy waiting, and I knew it wasn't in my place to take the first step."
"It's all Edward's doing. He spoke to me. We argued and fought, but he convinced me you needed me. I think in the entire kingdom you have yourself a loyal brother and friend."
"What about you?" a look of hope in his green eyes as he asked.
She smiled at him. "I'm always going to be in your corner."
She wanted to make up for her poor judgment, be there now and do what she didn't do three days ago. Believe in him.
"I believe everything will work out fine. You just have to show them what you've shown me."
He shook his way and guided his legs over to the bed, dropping on it. "It doesn't work that way. We share a bond and I fused the memories I showed you through that bond. I share no such bond with any of the elders or with my father, so they'll never see it." She followed him to the bed, stooping between his legs when she got close to him. "There has to be a way, right?" optimism stayed in her adorable eyes as they held onto his.
He smiled and ran a faint caress over her temple, down to her jawline and onto her chin. "Even if I say my side of the story, you can't back me up because you're my wife and Luna. The council will believe you're only trying to protect your husband. No one will take your story into account."
"We still have to try. We have a few people on our side, elders, alphas and lords that have been with you for so long and would stand up for you."
"I don't think I've got any of such," he mumbled.
"You do. You just don't know it yet," she answered. "Since your father and the elders are waiting, I think we should make an appearance together. I think you should go take a shower." Mia suggested as she rose and moved to the window, pulling the curtains apart. The much light that surged into the room hurt Xavier's face and he winced away. His hand shot up to block it.
"Well, don't stand here. You need to get ready. So go and washed."
"Come with me," he beckoned to her in a pleading voice.
She almost said yes from the much compulsion his words held, but she shook her head and wrapped her arms around her suddenly cold and goosebumps covered body. There will not make it out if she did, and they had pressing matters at hand. "No, you go, I'll just stay here."
He pouted adorably, his brow rising a little. "You promise you will stay?"
She nodded, "Yes. I promise to wait for you."
He said no other word before disappearing into the bathroom to wash off. She moved to the wardrobe, picked up a royal purple garment, and set it down on the bed. She wandered around his room, doing nothing important other than just touching and staring at stuff afterwards.
She moved to the shelf and scanned the books sorted into it. Its arrangement fascinated her every time she looked at it. Knowing he loved and took pleasure in reading more than he used to felt comforting to her. He didn't read as much as she did, but still, it was encouraging that he read once in a while.
The last time she went through his things, she saw his mother's drawing and, despite not wanting to invade his privacy now, her curiosity wouldn't let her be.
She pulled out a few collections of his books and realised they were the same as hers. She couldn't help the stupid grin that came on her face at the realisation of that.
The bathroom door opened, and she slid the book back into the shelf and turned around to face him, only to meet him wet and tempting. He was also naked but for the towel on his waist and it took all of her willpower to look away. She cleared her throat. "You're done bathing."
"Yes," he replied, and his eyes caught sight of the clothes on the bed. Mia had placed the clothes she picked out of the wardrobe for him on the bed but didn't know if he would like her choice.
"Well, I picked them out." She said, "Hope that's not a bad thing."
A small smile appeared on his face, and his eyes flickered with emotions, "My mother was the last person to pick my clothes, I've done it ever since" he walked to the bed where they were and he picked them up, "Thank you."
A blinding smile came onto her face at his words, and her heart was skipping for joy, but she tamed herself. She would never be tired of seeing him smile so cheerfully and she would give anything to keep it there.
He lifted the robe and Mia watch the muscles of his upper arm and shoulder flex in response and shivers ran down her spine. She could not help the nasty thoughts going through her head. One was of him holding her with those strong arms and fucking her brains
out.
Xavier gasped and his head snapped to look at her, his eyes filled with surprise and lust. Her cheeks burnt knowing he had heard her thoughts. She bit her lips together and turned away from him to face the wall.
Her heart was pounding heavily, knowing the feeling was mutual. Her core clenched and throbbed with the need to have him fill her up.
She cleared her throat and pressed her lips together.
"We still have a little time. I can be fast." Xavier's voice came into her mind and yanked her back to reality.
She understood what he meant and a part of her wanted to accept, but it had to wait for now.
"I want it slow and hard." she blurted before turning to him and meeting his heated gaze. He already had his trousers on, but his naked upper body was enough to mess with her head and she almost regretted turning around. "And we will. I promise." He picked up the purple shirt and wore it over his head. He picked up his long purple robe and shrugged it on.
He made his way over to her, taking her by the waist and pulling her closer. The touch of their bodies sent tingles through her and her toes curled. He leaned in and his lips almost touched hers when the door flew open.
"Is he ready?" Edward asked, his eyes darting around as soon as he stepped in. "I can no longer stalk father and the elders."
"He hoped you'd at least knock before storming in. We could have been naked." Xavier said, with a disapproving glare at him.
"Ew," Edward made disgusted faces at him, "Why would you be naked when your reign is at stake?"
Xavier groaned, and Mia felt grateful for his interruption. "We should leave."
