Emmanuel had never seen this side of him before. Even when Magnus had

Emmanuel simply nodded. “Rest for now. Don’t waste your strength talking. I’ll

get everything ready and start the procedure soon.”

Hattie nodded through her tears.

Magnus, still holding her hand, gently reassured her, “Hattie, stop talking and

rest. Just wait for the surgery. You’ll make it through this, I promise. You don’t

need to say anything more.”

Hattie nodded again, and Magnus tenderly wiped the tears from her face.

Emmanuel soon left the room. He didn’t need to leave the house entirely, just

made a few calls to his team to get the medical equipment delivered. So, he

As the thought crossed his mind, he heard footsteps approaching Hattie’s

someone walking in. Magnus‘ heart skipped a beat, though he kept his

expression neutral, masking his inner turmoil. The person entering was none

will you? You can keep up your act in front of others, but we all know each

other too well here. Isn’t it tiring pretending like this?”

“What are you talking about?” Maxwell frowned deeply, pretending not to

understand Blake’s words.

Blake knew exactly what kind of man Maxwell was. If Magnus was a master

manipulator, then Maxwell was the master of all manipulators. He was the

ultimate pretender, so immersed in his own lies that he’d convinced even

Maxwell’s face remained composed, his expression still one of mild confusion.

His acting was so convincing that even Blake started to doubt himself,

“He’s mute,” Blake added quickly. “Now, only the likes of us–mute, disabled

people–are left to serve a dying woman.”

“Mute? Dying?” Maxwell’s eyes narrowed as he scrutinized Magnus‘ hands.

They were hands that had clearly been well cared for, not the rough hands of

a servant. Maxwell had already guessed who this man was, and a quick test

would confirm it.
