Love at the 2037
Chapter 2037
“Chiara! I’ve endured your control, your bullying, but when it comes to Ash, the
woman I truly love, I won’t let you treat her like this!” Maxwell’s temper flared,
echoing through the cold, snow–covered cave as he unleashed his fury on
his wife.
“Huh, sounds like someone’s grown a pair now. The nerve you have, speaking
to me with that tone,” Chiara scoffed, her voice dripping with contempt. “Don’t
forget who helped you become the heir apparent, Zelinsky. Without the
Lannister family’s support, do you think you could’ve defeated Magnus and
inherited the family?”
Maxwell let out a long sigh, his eyes darting toward the cave entrance. He
knew Chiara’s martial arts skills were far superior to theirs, and she had surely
noticed Ashton’s presence in the cave.

“Maxwell, I’m warning you–stay in line. If I replace out you’re reigniting old feelings
with that woman, you’ll regret it!” Chiara threatened, her voice cold and
sharp.
But Maxwell, for once, didn’t bend to her will. He fired back passionately, “Ash
is the only one I love! Not you, you controlling tigress! If she still loves me, I’d
walk through fire and water–hell, I’d even leap into the abyss if it meant
being with her!”
Ashton, overhearing this, froze in shock. Some nerve, Maxwell, that jack*ss
has to say such things! She had nearly lost her life helping him steal
important documents from the Holy Fire organization. And once he had what
he wanted, he’d dumped her in favor of a political marriage with Chiara Now
he claimed he’d always loved her? Ashton wasn’t buying it. Besides, her heart
belonged to someone else now, not this smooth–talking liar.

“Maxwell, go to hell!” Chiara screamed, her anger flaring as she slapped him
hard across the face, sending him crashing to the ground. Without a second
glance, she stormed out of the cave, her footsteps fading into the snowy
vind.
Ashton flinched at the sound of the slap, which echoed so loudly it seemed to
shake the cave itself. For a moment, she was so stunned by what had just
happened that she forgot she had come for revenge. By the time she
snapped out of it, Chiara was already gone, leaving Maxwell lying on the
ground, sobbing. His cries grew louder, tears streaming down his face.
“Ash, if only I had another chance, I’d hold you close and never let go! Why do
we humans only learn to cherish what we’ve lost? Ash, where are you? I miss
you so much!” Maxwell continued, completely absorbed in his emotional
display.

Ashton’s heartstrings were unexpectedly tugged by his words. She knew
Maxwell and Chiara hadn’t realized she was there, so there was no way this
was part of some calculated plan to manipulate her. Could it be possible that
Maxwell truly still had feelings for her?
Ashton clenched her fists, hesitating for a moment, then bit her lip and
walked toward him.
“Hey, who’s that sniveling coward crying in here? If you’re too scared, just quit
the game!” she called out, pretending to be casual.
Maxwell immediately stopped crying and stood up, quickly wiping away any
trace of his earlier tears. When he saw Ashton standing there, he was utterly
shocked, frozen in place.
“Oh, it’s you, Maxwell! Fancy seeing you here,” Ashton teased, not realizing

“Ash… wha… what are you doing here? How did you get in?” Maxwell
tammered, his emotions swinging between shock and excitement as he
approached her, still unable to believe what he was seeing.
Ashton was now certain–Maxwell had no idea that she had overheard their
conversation. He didn’t even realize how she had managed to get into the
cave.
“Please, you think you and your wife are the only ones who matter in Zovince?
I’ve got plenty of powerful male friends now,” Ashton boasted, acting as if she
were completely unfazed.
Maxwell, however, didn’t react the way she expected. Instead, he smiled
softly and said, “Ash, seeing that you’re doing so well now, I’m relieved. I’ll take

Maxwell sighed as he silently picked himself up. Just then, the light at the
cave entrance was blocked, and two dark figures appeared Ashton’s heart
skipped a beat as she looked up–two full–grown arctic wolves were standing
at the entrance, their eyes fixed on the two of them.
And it wasn’t just two. More wolves were approaching from behind. One of

them lowered its nose to the snow, sniffing the air, clearly attracted by the
scent of blood coming from Maxwell,
Wolves! Ash, run!” Maxwell shouted, throwing all concern for himself aside.
But before she could react, the wolves charged at them. Maxwell, without
hesitation, stood up and spread his arms wide, using his body to shield
Ashton from the wolves.
“Ahhh!” Maxwell’s scream pierced the cold air as blood began to spill. The
scent of it filled Ashton’s nose, bringing her back to her senses.
“You idiot!” Ashton cursed him, but her hands moved quickly, grabbing her
hunting rifle. She fired several shots at the wolves, bringing one down, and
the rest quickly scattered and fled.
“Hey, are you alright?” Ashton kicked the dead wolf off of Maxwell and knelt

beside him, her voice filled with concern. No matter what had happened
between them, the man had just used his body to protect her. Without his
selfless act, she might not have had the time to fire those shots.
“I–I’m fine… The important thing is that you’re alright,” Maxwell said with a
weak smile, his face pale but still managing to grin.
“You idiot!” Ashton scolded him. “Did you forget I used to be a cop? You got in
my way just now–you almost messed up my shot!”
Maxwell chuckled. “Sorry, I just wanted to protect you… even if it was a little
foolish.”
Hearing his words, seeing that smile, and feeling the warmth of his blood on
her hands, Ashton felt a surge of unexpected warmth in her chest. Her eyes

began to sting with tears she hadn’t expected.
“Ash… why aren’t you saying anything? Are you… are you hurt?” Maxwell,
espite his injuries, looked up at her with concern.

“Do I look as weak as you? I’m fine. Let me bandage you up,” Ashton snapped,
already pulling out bandages and first aid supplies from her backpack. Real
hunting was dangerous, and the organizers had provided each participant
with emergency medical supplies just in case.
“I don’t get it. Why would someone as weak as you even enter this kind of
game? Aren’t you afraid that, no matter how rich you are, if you die, you won’t
get to enjoy any of it?” Ashton grumbled as she bandaged his wound,
throwing in a jab of her usual disdain.

memories, Every time I come here, I remember the happy times we shared.”
tthose words, Ashton’s tears finally spilled over. She remembered those
days, Back then, she had been just shy of twenty, like many other young
women, and had fallen for a few bad men along the way. She had been
captivated by Maxwell’s sweet words, the daily surprises, and the whirlwind
romance he had offered her. She had thought he was mature, that he
understood her heart, and being with him had always made her feel happy.
She had long since believed she would never cross paths with Maxwell again,
and she hadn’t wanted to. But now she realized, all this time, he had kept her
in his heart. Despite everything, he had never stopped caring for her.
