Love at the Wrong Table Emmanuel Lowe Chapter 401
Chapter 401
Mackenzie ignored Beatrix and walked out the door with two of her men
trailing behind her. As expected, she saw Quintus smoking while waiting by
his Land Rover.
Quintus immediately flicked off his cigarette when he saw Mackenzie and
sprayed mint cologne all over his body while chewing some gum before
walking toward her after ensuring that he did not have any smell of smoke on
-him.
She was speechless at his actions. What is this guy made of? I would have
thought that he was one of my men if I didn’t know him.
Unfortunately, Quintus couldn’t be blamed as he knew of Mackenzie’s
misandry and that she didn’t like the smell of smoke. If he didn’t do that, she
would have walked away as soon as they met.
“What are you here for?” Mackenzie questioned coldly.
She came to see Quintus as she thought he wanted to avenge Claudette’s
death. However, considering his actions, she knew that wasn’t the case.
“I want to have dinner with you, Mackenzie!” Quintus invited her with a smile.
“Dinner? Is this to repay you for saving me?” Mackenzie didn’t like to owe
people things and wanted to settle the matter. She could accept anything
except being together with him.
Yet, Quintus was confused. “What do you mean by saving you?”
She realized something in his expression and questioned urgently, “That night
at the valley. It wasn’t you who saved me from the two assassins?”
“Oh! You were referring to that?”
He acted as if he almost forgot about it and laughed, “Emmanuel, that idiot,
wanted to save you instead of my sister. How could that be? He’s supposed
to be with my sister and you’re mine. So, I saved you. Were you planning on
repaying me with your heart-”
Before he could finish his sentence, he noticed the cold glint in her beautiful
eyes and realized he probably said something wrong.

Well, this shouldn’t be the case. I saved her. She can’t hate me for that, right?
“That idiot!” Mackenzie cursed under her breath and ignored Quintus as she
stormed toward her Bentley.
“Hey. Hey! Mackenzie, if you don’t want to give me your heart, you can give
me a kiss! Or, dinner works too!”
After Mackenzie left in her Bentley, Quintus walked to his Land Rover and
asked Zane, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, “Did I say something just
now? She’s divorced Emmanuel and I went to her rescue like a prince. It
would be a fairytale if she gave me her heart.”
Zane simply smiled without answering. No one dared to tell their boss
straight to the face that they were stupid. He didn’t want any trouble.
“Ms. Quillen, where are we heading now?”
Wally was a smart driver. He drove off to help Mackenzie escape Quintus
before asking her where to go.
Alas, Mackenzie stayed silent as she also didn’t know where to go.
At that moment, Lexi called to report to her.
“What? You can’t replace Emmanuel?”
“Yes, Ms. Quillen! I’ve used every channel I’ve got to look for him in Yeringham
and no sign of him. He has either gone into hiding or has left Yeringham.”
“Left Yeringham?” Mackenzie suddenly straightened her back as her heart felt
empty and overwhelmed. Why did that idiot leave? Was it because we
divorced or because of Claudette’s death? He couldn’t accept it and wanted
to escape?
Suddenly, numerous questions filled her mind and she felt unnerved by the
worry plaguing her mind.
Just as she was about to ask Wally to start the car, she heard Quintus say,
“My sister’s in a vegetative state after saving you. You should at least follow
me home to see her, right?”
“What did you say?” Mackenzie changed her mind and rolled down the
windows to look at Quintus in puzzlement.
Claudette didn’t die? Is that possible? Didn’t the bullet go through her heart?
Even though Quintus wasn’t as smart as Emmanuel, he could understand the
expression on Mackenzie’s face. Then, he smiled proudly. “I bet you didn’t
expect that. My sister’s body is different from the ordinary person’s. The
position of her heart is also different. Do you think she’s that dumb to use her
chest to stop the shot?”
Mackenzie knew that Claudette had some sort of sickness and was pestering
Emmanuel to treat her.
So, she was a little different than the others, but no one expected that her
heart would be in a different position too.
“Bring me to her now!”
“Sure!” Quintus agreed, but brought up a request, “But you have to get in my
car!”
Mackenzie bit her lips, but still exited her car to get on his Land Rover.
Zane was speechless at Quintus‘ way of picking up girls as it was so dumb. It
was no wonder that he had not been with a woman despite being so rich. It
seemed like Quintus knew himself well to actually set aside a 10–year plan to
pursue Mackenzie.
It was 9.00PM when Mackenzie arrived at the Lenoir Residence.
Although she grew up in a villa as the eldest daughter of the Quillen family,
she was still in awe of the solemn manor of the Lenoir Residence.
The manor was painted black and white with many edges and corners that
made the house look dignified.
This was different from the small villa Claudette lived in. This was the real
Lenoir Residence where her father–Adolph Lenoir, lived.
The guards in the villa were all in uniform armed with legal guns.
They stood guard like statues and looked scary unmoving in the dead of the
night.
Mackenzie easily arrived at Claudette’s ward with Quintus taking point.
Under the support of the Lenoir’s powerful influence and wealth, Claudette
was cared for in a sealed–off ward wearing almost nothing as numerous
pieces of medical equipment surrounded her while professional medical
staff were on standby to keep her alive.
They would have been long dead if this was some nobody. But the Lenoir
family was creating a miracle for Claudette.
A socialite herself, Mackenzie was surprised at the scene because the Quillen
family might not have the ability to pull such a stunt, let alone an ordinary
person.
Unfortunately, Claudette was still unable to regain consciousness as her face
looked lifeless. She could only depend on advanced medical equipment to
keep her breathing, which made people’s hearts ache for her.
At that moment, Mackenzie had mixed feelings for the woman. If it wasn’t for
Claudette, she could have been killed by the bomb.
If Claudette didn’t jump in front of Emmanuel, he could have been dead too.
Mackenzie was grateful for her, but it was also because of her that things
between her and Emmanuel turned so bad that they even went through with
the divorce.
Quintus kept talking beside Mackenzie, but it seemed she couldn’t hear him
as she didn’t respond to him at all.
