Love at the Wrong Table Emmanuel Lowe Chapter 403

Chapter 403

“Sigh. Being a simp is hard!” Quintus could cry bitter tears for himself for being

in such a state, but he chose to be one. So, he couldn’t complain to anyone.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

A series of footsteps interrupted Mackenzie’s line of thought.

She looked up to see a middle-aged man with a mustache walking toward

her.

He had handsome features with a commanding aura. He was the famous

General Adolph Lenoir of Yeringham.

Beside him, was a charming and sexy woman who became his wife after

being his mistress-Laura Newman. Even though she wasn’t wearing

revealing clothes, she still made one’s thoughts wander down the gutter.

When Laura saw Mackenzie, she smiled, “Oh, my. I didn’t expect a guest to

visit us tonight! The young mistress of the Quillen family is indeed gorgeous.

No wonder men swoon over you!”

Even though it sounded like she was complimenting her, Mackenzie didn’t like

it one bit.

I’m afraid no one can compare to you if you want to talk about swooning

men.

“What are you here for, Ms. Quillen?” Adolph coldly demanded.

Anyone from Yeringham would falter before him. Terence wouldn’t, but it

would be a fifty-fifty chance that he could come out on top. However,

Mackenzie wasn’t scared at all even if she was just a guest.

“I’m here to visit Claudette, Mr. Lenoir!”

“Visit her?”

Adolph raised his eyebrows and his aura even made Quintus shudder.

“Ms. Quillen, I’ve heard rumors that you don’t really have a good relationship

with my daughter, though. Last time, she was assassinated in the valley and

was shot for it. You were there on these two occasions, right?”

Mackenzie frowned at his statement as she knew he was pressuring her on

purpose.

She was the only outsider in the Lenoir Residence and a woman while

numerous burly-looking guards surrounded her. If Mackenzie was just

anyone else, she would have peed her pants by now.

Then, Mackenzie put on a small smile before answering, “General Lenoir,

rumors may not be true. I was there those two times, but I’m not Claudette’s

enemy. I am sad that she’s in such a state right now.”

Laura smiled at that. “People say Ms. Quillen’s intelligence and wisdom are

outstanding. It seems that it is true now that I’ve seen it myself!”

However, Mackenzie scoffed, “You flatter me, Madam Newman. I’m just an

ordinary person.”

Laura harrumphed unhappily since Mackenzie addressed her as Madam

Newman and not Mrs. Lenoir, suggesting that she was a scheming woman.

Regardless, Adolph didn’t care about their fight and pointed at Mackenzie’s

nose as he warned, “I don’t care what you say. All I know is that you and that

man called Emmanuel were there both times Claudette has been hurt. This is

on you both if she never wakes up!”

Mackenzie gritted her teeth. He’s just being unreasonable now!

She had heard stories about him as a general in Yeringham. He was known

to be very domineering, which was also the norm for most generals.

Nonetheless, it didn’t mean that she would be scared of him even if others

were.

“Mr. Lenoir, I’ve heard that you’re a tough guy on the battlefield. I believe

you’re not the type to bully the weak, right? I happen to know who shot

Claudette. Would you like to know that?

Laura heard that and immediately pursed her lips as she tossed her head

with a cold scoff.

Naturally, Laura was the reason why Adolph had heard of Mackenzie’s

involvement as she wanted to use his power to pressure Mackenzie. That

was because she had always felt that Mackenzie was bullying Claudette.

Alas, it seemed like it wasn’t working as she hoped
