Chapter 1248 Extra Story 3 Of Edgar Affair

Maggie's eyes widened in horror, and the clock fell from her hand to the floor with a loud clanking noise. She held her head and growled in displeasure. This was the heavy price to pay for getting drunk.

Maggie, however, didn't have time to feel sorry for herself. She endured her headache and hurried to wash up. Then she put on her army uniform and ran downstairs hastily. She took a cab and headed to the S Army camp.

She had to register her name at the office of the senior military officer at ten o'clock, and after that it would take about two hours to reach the camp considering there was no traffic to worry about. It was seven o'clock now. And the cab wouldn't be allowed to go beyond the military headquarters gate. She would have to walk from the gate to Mr. Du's office, carrying a twenty kilogram luggage on her back. If she weren't hung-over, she could have made it in just forty minutes!

Maggie closed her eyes and earnestly prayed that there would be no traffic on the way there.

Unfortunately, her prayers had been in vain. There was only one road which led to the military headquarters and that was blocked because of some car accident. Maggie was enraged with herself and her luck.

She constantly checked her watch and realized that sitting around and waiting for impeding doom wasn't going help improve her situation. She paid for the cab and threw her luggage onto her back. Like a woman possessed, she ran in-between the cars, zigzagging along the way. When she reached the other end of the road, Maggie took another cab. She was already too late.

Outside the corridor of the senior military's office, Maggie stood there restlessly. The assistant had informed her that the officer had gone out on his rounds and would be back in one hour. Maggie wanted to fall dead right there.

"Why did they have to build the office building so far away from the gate? Was it to show off the large military headquarters of the S Army?" Maggie muttered to herself in dismay and lowered her head to look at her shoes. She was late on her first day to work in the S Army and had lost her face in front of everyone.

"You are late on your first day to work in the S Army. You have lost your face in front of everyone." A deep voice echoed her thoughts with a tone of dissatisfaction and anger from the other end of the corridor.

Maggie didn't even have to look as she stood up straight. When the man edged closer to her, she saluted with a standard posture. "Yes, sir! I am very truly ashamed of my own incompetence!"

"Are you trying to shame the University or the S Army?" William Du snorted at her and then ordered, "I want a twenty thousand word apology letter. Hand it in tomorrow morning." Then he turned around and entered his office. "Come in."

Maggie was frustrated with herself as she looked at the group that followed William inside with her. Most of the people in the group were from different universities and had come to the S Army to learn from each other. Maggie was disappointed at herself for failing to make a good impression among her peers on her first day.

William informed them about what they would be doing next and while he explained the dos and don'ts. Finally, he divided the twelve people into three smaller groups. There were only two girls in the group. Maggie and the other girl, Edith Zhang, ended up in the same group as Jake Zhang and Garth Liu.

"Sir!"

a voice came from outside as soon as the groups were arranged. William answered, and Edgar Gu, dressed in the army uniform of a Major General, strode in. He walked directly towards William without looking at everyone else and saluted him. "Sir, I have come to take my men."

"You are always the first one to claim the newcomers." William laughed. "Aren't you supposed to be on holiday?"

Edgar displayed a faint smile, but replied seriously, "Sir, I heard that the Missile Technology Team would be coming in today. So, I decided to return earlier than planned." His smile widened as he continued, "Cathy has been complaining that we don't have enough people around here. If I went on vacation, that woman would swallow me whole."

"Wow! It's good to know that there is someone that can frighten you, Edgar." William teased his subordinate.

Edgar didn't mind. "Sir, which group have you allocated for Eagle?"

Maggie's heart tightened. If last night's incident had not occurred, Maggie would have wanted to be a member of the Eagle Special Brigade. But after what happened, she didn't want either of them to feel awkward, so she hoped to join some other brigade. But why was she the only one feeling awkward? Were her feelings misplaced? Or did Edgar have two faces?

"The third group," William said without putting much thought into it. "There are two girls in the group and it would be convenient for Cathy to take care of them."

Maggie screamed inside her head. 'No! Mr. Du, can't you see my saddened eyes? Mr. Du!"

William failed to notice Maggie's desperation, but Edgar did. He looked at the other four people in the third group. All of them seemed excited, except Maggie.

Edgar was a legend in the army and that was enough to attract them towards the Eagle Special Brigade. Furthermore, Cathy Xiang's new technology team was top-notch. They would surely learn a lot from being in that team.

Edgar walked towards the group and scanned the four pair of eyes looking at him curiously. Then he turned to Maggie who appeared to be terribly nervous and asked, "Do you not want to join the Eagle Special Brigade? "000000000000
