Love Began with the First Meeting
Chapter 635 Danger Lurked In Every Corner (Part One)

If it hurts too much, just let go; if you still can't be with someone after trying your hardest, then get over them and move on. Why beat yourself up?

The car zoomed along the street in the dead of the night. After a while, it screeched to a halt in front of the villa. Tony rushed out of the car and opened the door for his boss. Brian got out first and then turned around to carry Molly out of the car. He looked at her pale face and her blank eyes; he was worried to death.

"Call the doctor!" Brian ordered as he carried her into the villa.

He entered the bedroom and gently placed Molly on the bed, not minding her ragged and dirty clothes. "Mol..." he called urgently, but

she didn't respond, her eyes fixed on one spot blankly. She just lay there, like a soulless shell.

Brian's coarse fingers brushed the disheveled hair on her forehead. He bent over and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead, begging, "Mol, say something. Please."

Still nothing. No matter what he said, she didn't react. Molly felt like she had been taken into a confined house with no doors or windows. It was pitch-black. She was frightened.

And suddenly, she started shaking. Her eyes widened and she was short of breath. Each time Brian called her name, she was filled with fear, along with a feeling of deep rejection towards him.

He frowned in grief and looked at her lovingly, his lips pressed into a thin line. He didn't say anything more. The terror on her face wriggled his heart mercilessly.

Under the circumstance they were in, life and death were just a hair's breadth apart. He knew that it would traumatize her, but he had had no other choice.

He had figured out what kind of person that guy was, so he couldn't let that man have her. If he had, he would regret it for the rest of his life.

To keep both her and the Long family's rule over Dragon Island out of danger, he had to pretend to be cruel to her, although the whole charade was breaking her heart and it was undoubtedly going to result in her hating him more than ever. But she would never know how much he had wanted to protect her, how worried he was when she was in danger. He had pretended to not care about her to deceive his enemy. The situation had been very tricky. If he had shown even a tiny bit of affection towards her, that man would have killed her just to break Brian.

He swallowed his agony and turned his head away from her. He was so afraid to see her ashen and expressionless face. He kept telling himself that he had to do what he had done and in that situation, he had no other options. But the outcome of his decision was killing him. There was an urgent knock at the door.

His brow knitted and his mouth twitched a little. Brian tried hard to suppress the pain and answered the door, "Come in."

Tony led the doctor in. Brian got up, but said nothing. The doctor looked at Molly, who was lying on the bed with blood stains on her clothes and her face.

She kept staring at the ceiling with her glassy eyes and a dull expression. The doctor looked at her closely and did a quick check-up.

"Mr. Brian Long, Mrs. Molly Long is in a very shocked state. Besides, she has been distressed for a long time and this has negatively affected her nervous system and this has resulted in an insufficient blood supply across the body. That is why she has difficulty breathing. This condition can be commonly called as," the doctor looked at Brian's grim face, gulped nervously and said, "melancholy."

With a tight furrow, Brian glanced at Molly. Complex emotions swirled in his eyes.

"I will prescribe some medicines for Mrs. Molly Long. A shot should help, but..." the doctor sighed, "The only cure will be to let go of whatever it is that's troubling her."

Brian withdrew his gaze and gave the doctor a simple nod.

The doctor took out a syringe, infused some medicinal fluid into it and then injected it into Molly. After a while, Molly fell into a deep sleep. After disinfecting and bandaging Molly's wrist which had been grazed by the rope, the doctor left. Tony escorted the doctor to the door. Brian sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Molly's face which was as pale as a sheet. Despair was written all over his face.

After a long moment, he stood up and went to the bathroom. He took a towel, drenched it with lukewarm water, and cleaned Molly's face and body. Then he grabbed a nightgown from the closet and changed her clothes. He did everything so gently, without disturbing her. However, if anyone looked closer, they would have noticed his hands shaking the whole time.

It was unimaginable how nervous he had been back then. Luckily, for her safety, he had injected her with a tracking liquid which would solidify with blood in her body. But what if he had been too late? He had never in his life doubted his aim, but when he pointed the gun at her, he was no more sure of anything that he had learned through years of training. So many thoughts ran through his mind at the time. He was afraid that she might move. What if his hand shook while he was taking the shot? What if he missed? What if he couldn't kill the man in the cap with one shot? He might give the man time to hurt Molly. What if... What if he had made one mistake or was one second too slow? He would have lost her forever.

In the dim light, Brian looked so lonely. He fixed his eyes on Molly's face, as if he was afraid that if he blinked, he might never be able to see her again.

"Failed? " Reuben took a long drag from his glaze pipe. His silver hair was neatly brushed even though it was the middle of the night.

Jeff squinted and said through clenched teeth, "Time was pressing and it was swift action. But damn! Bert has never failed a mission before." He then lifted his eyes to look at Reuben and added, "I'm telling you, old man, Brian is not easy to deal with." "The Longs are never easy to deal with," Reuben said, pointing at Jeff. "I have been scheming against the Longs for more than ten years now and everything was going so smoothly until recently. Now Addison has been taken away from the city by Richie, Brian is nothing but trouble and Eric is a pain in the ass. The National Congress is scheduled to happen in three days. Do you want to be kicked out of the Congress?"

"Hmph!" Jeff stood up abruptly. He looked Reuben in the eye, and said, "There are still two days left." The look in his eyes became vicious, "Although it was Brian's win today, he has made one thing very clear- he has been putting on a show. He cares about Molly." Turning around, he took a dart from the table and looked at the dartboard. His sideburns moved along with his jaw as he spoke, "On the day when the National Congress commences, all I need to do is to stall him."

He threw the dart and it hit the bull's-eye.

He turned to Reuben and continued, "Old man, you go ahead and do whatever you have planned for the National Congress. I won't let Brian set foot on Dragon Island during the National Congress." Saying that, Jeff turned around and walked out.

He got into his car and drove away. With a sneer playing on his lips, one arm resting on the door handle, and with the other on the wheel, he pressed down on the accelerator. Only speeding could calm him down at that moment. The tires screeched as he hit the breaks all of a sudden.

The car came to a halt by the beach. The screeching sound was drowned out by the seething sea.

He got out of the car and sat on the hood, legs overlapped. He lit a cigarette and puffed, looking at the sea, which had turned into an inky blackness under the dark sky.

The sea wind blew in his face; he could feel the saltiness in the air. His short curly hair stirred in the breeze, disheveled, making him look even more arrogant and blood thirsty.

His phone buzzed. He pulled it out of his pocket with a frown. After seeing the caller ID, he answered it with a smile. "It's late. Why are you still up? Missing me?" he asked tenderly. The sweet talk sounded even more intoxicating amid the sea wind. D
