Love Began with the First Meeting -
Chapter 691 The Endless Loneliness And Profound Hope (Part One)
I am willing to abandon all my life's hard work, dedication and reputation in an instant, if it can protect you and keep you away from harm's way! --by Brian Everyone went numb and still in the face of sheer terror and horror.
Everyone least expected and thought that Molly would show up right when the Black Wolf was strolling outside, anxiously yet carefully looking for his next prey. The long stretches of time he spent chained behind the bars of a cage, the special training he received since he was a puppy, made the dog extremely ferocious and aggressive in nature. But beyond all of this, he was also a loyal dog, who cared so much for his master Brian. If he saw anyone new appear next to Brian, his protectiveness went into overdrive, and he would jump into defense as this stranger was a danger. This being said, there were high chances that upon seeing Molly standing there out in the open, defenseless, he would pounce on her and attack her ferociously to eliminate the danger.
The guards were petrified as they knew what lay beyond the darkness. At this point, they entirely forgot that the Black Wolf was Brian's favorite pet. They just knew that they would be in so much trouble if anything bad would happen to Molly, and with such a precarious situation they would rather risk sacrificing the dog than letting Brian's girl be in harm's way. With that thought, they pulled out their weapons and prepared to shoot down the canine.
However, the Black Wolf was a military grade trained dog who knew how to slide out of such situations. The moment the bullet was fired out, he instantly changed tracks and dodged the bullet, and right then when the guards least expected it with a giant leap, he swooped down on Molly, who tumbled over backward with the dog's strong paws pushing her down towards the ground. The man panicked as he stumbled upon the trigger hurriedly for a second shot. However right that instant, his eyes fell upon the dog and he noticed a rather different tone in the dog's attitude. So before his finger could pull the trigger, as a sense of doubt clouded his judgment, he quickly made a decision and with fear he pulled the trigger, unaware of the outcome. With a loud noise, the bullet made way through the thick air, passed the beast and rammed into the wall behind them.
Utterly terrified, Molly closed her eyes and cried out hysterically and helplessly in fear not knowing what was happening. It was all too fast for her to comprehend anything.
She felt the canine's heightened heavy breath on her face, and within a few seconds, his sticky yet foul smelling drool drooped all over her face. She gasped helplessly to catch a breath as she drowned in fear. However, after some time, there was no indication of a violent attack, no sign of any merciless bite or even the dog's furious yet intimidating snarls. After what felt like a long time, she gathered herself and with a leap of faith, she decided to open her eyes slowly. The giant dog's fluffy head was all over her face. She got scared as she realized that he was at least four to five times bigger than her.
With hopes of receiving some help and being rescued, she cried out loudly with all her strength. She felt weak as though she would faint any second owing to the gripping fear of the terrifying beast. At this moment, she felt like she had never been this scared in her life. With blank expressions, the men motionlessly stared at Molly and the black wolf, not knowing how to handle the situation. Right then, they stood there without any expressions just gawking at the two, wondering whether they should take out the dog or just wait a little longer to see how he behaves. But from what they could sense from the dog's gestures, it did not seem like he intended to harm Molly.
Meanwhile, the Black Wolf put his huge paws generously all across her body lovingly, his big and round eyes were keenly glued to Molly who still continued screaming in terror. After a few seconds, he looked up, with hollow and confused eyes, to express his confusion and bafflement at her scream.
All of the men stood still, staring at the dog full of confused look on their faces. They knew that the Black Wolf was a spiritual animal. He had always been loyal to his owner: Brian. He also never attacked any of his men. Yet also, before this, he had never fawned over anyone other than Brian as well. Judging from his movement at the moment, it was more like a friendly gesture, an almost slave-like fawning than a malicious attack.
After a moment's pause, the Black Wolf growled lightly and looked down at her again. And Molly, although still in her panic and fright, her voice gradually tailed off into a small moan. Seeing her still gripped by uneasiness, the dog made a voice that sounded sad and full of chagrin as he started rubbing his giant head on her cheek. Surprised by his gesture, she did not dare to move. She just lay there, still not knowing what the dog intended to do. As if he had noticed her fright, the dog stopped his motion. For a moment, he just looked down and growled softly at her, just like a small kid who was seeking comfort from his mother after being bullied.
Gradually she started to regain her composure and confidence as she realized that he meant no harm. She poised for some time before she could have the nerve to study at the dog with her large, wondering eyes, though her heart was still pumping violently triggered by terror.
The Black Wolf was pleased upon realizing that she had stopped screaming and was gaining some confidence. Then with his tail waggling happily expressing delight, he lifted his paws and tapped softly on her shoulders, and then he began to bark in his joyful, elated manner.
Molly watched him as he barked. She gradually recovered from the terror. Her eyes turned bright and soft as she watched the dog closely. Although he was unearthly huge and terrifyingly powerful, he wanted nothing more than care and love from her. Without even realizing it, she stretched out her hand and put it on his head, which was soft and fluffy. Her unexpected movement made the Black Wolf even happier. Starting with a sniff all over her face, he began to lick her cheek.
Molly was taken aback. She had never gotten this close to any animal before, not to mention being pressed and licked by such giant, aggressive, well-trained dog with such affection. For a moment, she lay there in complete stillness, letting the fright pass from her heart. Then after gaining composure, she put her hand on her face, which was sticky and smelly from his lick. Instantly, she gathered her brows into a knot in anger and said in loath, "You are quite a stink bomb."
She hinted for him to stop. But she had no power over him. Consistently, he kept licking her cheek with his long and rough tongue.
Gradually, as the itchy feeling intensified on her cheek, she started to exclaim out, "Get away from me, you Big Guy, get off... I can't breathe!" However, the dog got even more excited on hearing her voice.
He lifted his head and barked joyfully for a few times and then nestled his head against her chest as if he was afraid that he would be forsaken.
The men were moved by the unexpected sight. They had expected many different outcomes of their interaction and this was not one of them. They all stood motionlessly there, looking numbly at the dramatic and fascinating scene unfolding before them. In the end, they seemed to come to an understanding, that Molly was not only his owner: Brian's wife, but also Mark's mom. So it took for granted that Molly must have some same, intimate scent as Brian and that attracted the dog and made him so elated at seeing her.
In a little while, as they stood there, contemplating over the sight, one of them suddenly put his gun away and called out in shock, "Mr. Brian Long!"
The others all went taut at the sound. They all put away their guns immediately and called out simultaneously with bright, decisive voice resounding with respect, "Mr. Brian Long!"
The sound fell upon Molly's ears as well. With a shock, her motion suspended. Her head instinctively turned away to look for Brian. Finally she saw him, in a sky-blue shirt with top buttons unraveled and a black pants with his one hand clung to its pocket. He was standing not far away from the men, and looking at her with his deep, black eyes. Or rather, he was looking at the Black Wolf.
