Love Began with the First Meeting -
Chapter 713 Loving Her With His Life (Part Three)
The following days were extremely painful for the Long family. One week had passed since Wing had left.
It was early fall. A gust of wind sent old leaves flapping in the air like a flock of birds. Such a melancholy season.
Everything was calm on the outside, but a storm was silently brewing in their hearts as they waited optimistically for some good news.
Molly heard the sound of the crash again in her dream. It sounded absurdly loud that night as if it was trying to shatter everything in its way.
Molly felt like her head was about to explode. That horrible scene kept coming back to her in her dreams. She wanted to open her eyes, but she couldn't. She wrestled to get out of the nightmare.
She woke up, screaming. Sweat beads clustered on her forehead.
Someone rushed to her, crying. "Mommy, you woke up," she could hear a faint voice saying.
Molly was still dizzy. She looked around, lost. Her eyes quickly adjusted and she saw the familiar surroundings of the hospital and the Dragon Empire Group's logo reminded her of where she was. She felt like someone had put a heavy rock on her head. The pain stung and rippled across her head. She winced and gasped painfully. She tried to move, but the slightest movement of her arms exuded more pain, as if someone was tearing the flesh off her bones. She bit her lower lip to stop herself from screaming out loud. She had to remain still.
"Mommy, don't move your arms. They said your shoulders were dislocated," Mark said in a hurry.
Molly turned to him, surprised. Tears of joy brimmed in her eyes. "Mark, is that you? Am I dreaming?" she asked, not fully able to believe that her son was beside her.
"Mommy, it's me." Mark hugged her lightly, careful not to touch her wounds.
Her eyes reddened. She looked at Mark again as if to make sure that he was real. Then she held him tightly regardless of the cuts and the pain that swiftly traveled through her arms.
They stayed in a tight embrace for a long time. Then suddenly, Molly remembered about the accident. She pulled Mark out of her arms and asked, "Mark, where is Papa Brian?"
As soon as he heard her question, Mark started to cry loudly. Molly was bewildered and flustered. The door was pushed open and Shirley walked into the ward in a hurry. Molly jumped out of the bed when she saw Shirley. She couldn't replace her balance at first and she leaned against the bed for support. But she forced herself to walk over to Shirley, and she grabbed her hand, "Mom, where is Bri?"
Shirley had dark circles under her eyes due to lack of sleep. She was relieved to see that Molly was finally awake.
"Mom?" Molly cried, "Mom, tell me, please."
"Bri is still unconscious. His injury was too severe. He has been in a coma ever since he was brought to the hospital. He is still in the ICU ward." Sadness was plain in Shirley's voice.
Molly felt a heavy blow strike her heart. She dashed towards the door. Her cuts started to bleed again due to her sudden movement. Shirley and Mark were shouting from behind her. She ignored all of it, opened the door and hurried towards the ICU ward. "Bri, nothing will happen to you. Nothing will happen! Be strong. You must be strong!" Molly murmured tearfully. She dragged herself to where Brian was. Scenes from that night came flooding back vividly to her head once again. "I have so much to tell you..." As she was rushing to see him, she heard some nurses talking outside his ward. "Mrs. Molly Long really is a seductress. How many times has Mr. Brian Long been in life-threatening situations because of her?" a nurse said as she wrote a prescription. Another nurse agreed. She saw Molly limping towards the ward from the corner of her eye. She sneered and said, "The police said the other day that Mr. Brian Long was so badly hurt because he was trying to protect Mrs. Molly Long." "Yes, yes, I heard that too," a nurse sorting out medical records turned around and joined in. "The police were saying that normally when a vehicle was about to crash from the front, the driver would steer the wheel towards the left to reduce the impact on himself, but Mr. Brian Long had steered the wheel towards the right to protect the person in the passenger seat, that is, Mrs. Molly Long." She paused and tried to picture what had happened that day in her head. "It is apparently an instinct for drivers to steer the wheel left when their lives are in danger, but Mr. Brian Long turned the car towards the right at that crucial moment. Everything had happened so fast and he had done that on instinct-an instinct to protect his wife. He loves her so much that he wanted to protect her with his life." Molly didn't have the strength to take another step forward. Tears fell out of Molly's eyes like a broken dam. The grief was too much for her to bear that she put both her hands on her mouth and sobbed. Shirley and Mark, who had followed her out of the ward, were also crying.
"Mr. Brian Long's brain has been severely damaged. He has a concussion and has lost a lot of blood. Some of his ribs are broken as well." The nurse with the medical records let out a long sigh and shrugged. "Sometimes, I do think that Mrs. Molly Long is Mr. Brian Long's jinx."
Saying that, the nurse went back to her station.
Molly didn't pay much attention to her last sentence. All she had heard were the words 'excessive loss of blood' and 'broken ribs'. She felt like the sky was falling. Out of balance, she thumped onto the floor, her eyes glazing with uncontrollable tears. "Brian, why? Why did you do this? I don't deserve it," she cried to herself.
Tears burst out of her eyes. She sat there feeling lifeless, like she had just lost her soul. Fly's and the nurses' words buzzed in her head, reminding her how stupid she had been.
She closed her eyes painfully and started wailing in grief. Shirley walked to her, sat beside her and pulled her into her arms. Bitterness filled her heart.
Her son was lying in the ICU ward unconscious. When she had heard that both Wing and Brian had been injured because of Little Molly, she had wanted to beat her up for her stupidity. But she couldn't. Because her son loved that girl with his life. And he had proved it now, by risking his life to save her.
"Brian is gonna be okay. He will wake up. I know he will," she assured Molly and tried to gain comfort from her own words as well. 000000000☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
