The tightly shut doors of the sleek Benz blurred the noise from the commotion outside, yet an animal's ears were still sharp and sensitive to the sounds of megaphones, tactical gear, and shouting opposite the car's closed doors. Black Wolf's clear green eyes stared determinedly at the windshield.
"Bang!" The huge dog hauled itself forward so strongly that the sound of bone against glass was audible, but just a thin, white line of only slightly cracked glass appeared.
However, the glass was just too strong for Black Wolf. "Bang, bang, bump, bang!" Black Wolf repeatedly hit the large window with its head in hopes of breaking it. The glass cracked some more yet it resisted still, but the fur on the dog's head began to gradually moisten with a warm, red liquid.
The dog kept hitting the windshield with its head with an increasing force despite the also increasing cuts and blood on its head. A little while later, a nearby policeman heard the bumping sound. The policeman got nearer and nearer to the car and when he got there, his mouth opened in shock. There, the large dog continued to break the glass with its head. In that exact moment, the windshield finally gave in and cracked open enough to allow the dog to come out. Black Wolf indeed jumped out quickly, a small gust of wind trailing in its wake. However, it did not run towards the art class building but instead to the direction where the car Molly drove came from.
Before the policeman could even make sense of what just happened, Black Wolf suddenly stopped in its tracks. An incoming car approached nearer but a second before it fully stopped, the passenger door burst opened and Brian Long sprinted off the vehicle. Right after, its tires screeched to a halt beside Black Wolf.
"Woof, woof!" Black Wolf barked and ran towards Brian, the fur on its head still wet with blood. The fur on its head stuck out in different angles and was a bright crimson. However, it seemed that the dog didn't feel hurt as it kept barking and scratched its paws on the ground.
"Be quiet!" Brian hissed in a loud and cold voice. The look on his face was serious and cold. Brian's eyes squinted upon catching sight of the broken wind shield and the art class. His gaze only turned harsher and icier after scanning his surroundings.
A moment ago, Tony informed him that Black Wolf had escaped. The first idea that came to his mind was that the dog escaped to replace Molly. He tried to recall the last few events. A few days before he went to the manor, he subconsciously mentioned to the dog that Molly had come back. The cunning animal must have committed that time to its memory.
After his little recollection, he walked towards the area of the crime but was stopped by the police as the area was on lock down. However, he got a pass when he showed his identity and got information on what happened. He was shocked and appalled. Although he wasn't entirely sure if Molly and Mark were there, he still felt uneasy. That queasy feeling was the force that enabled him to drive fast without delays. When he saw Black Wolf when he arrived, he instantly felt dreadful as the worst possible scenario was confirmed. Both Molly and Mark must be in the building as well!
A voice called his attention, "Brian?" It was Tony. The man had rushed to Brian's aid as soon as he could.
"Gather all our people here," Brian ordered calmly in response. "Get ready to take actions."
"Yes, Sir!" Tony replied without hesitation. After that, he quickly left and hurriedly proceeded to follow his given order.
In that exact same moment, two Toyota Land Cruiser's stopped consecutively near the police cars. Edward jumped out of the passenger's side of the car wearing a combat uniform. After that, the whole commando unit got off the car as well. They all wore masks and hoods on their heads to hide their identities from people.
The major general jogged to the direction of the police officer. When he got there, his eyes squinted a bit and briefly glimpsed at the brightly lit classroom of the art class. "How many hostages are there?" he asked with a calm voice.
The police officer answered him in a rushed voice and said, "The kidnappers claimed to have 18 hostages, but according to the information from the art class, there should be 16, including the teacher!" Then, he further added, "The kidnappers are very experienced. They had taken all the advantageous positions and hidden themselves very well." He paused a little after finishing his sentence and his face went darker with seriousness. "These kidnappers are all outlaws. Generally, to get what they want, they will never turn on the lights inside the room. But now the lights are turned on, so we can see the room inside clearly," he continued.
Edgar understood the underlying meaning of the officer's words. "They are showing their determination that they are willing to die!" he frustratingly echoed the captain's words with gritted teeth. He then took a high-powered set of binoculars from a captain officer beside him. He held it up to his eyes and looked at the art class carefully through the enlarging lenses, and made sure he included every corner. Just as the police officer reported, the kidnappers were very smart. Each of them had selected an excellent place and it was very difficult for the police and the commando unit to control all the kidnappers outside the classroom. However, something made Edgar suddenly stop observing. What he saw was half of a woman's body exposed to the window. He put down the binoculars for a split second and held it up to his eyes again. He looked repeatedly and made sure that the woman was Molly. "Why is she here?" he asked with equal parts of surprise and anger.
The police officer beside him nervously shuffled his feet a little because of Edgar's frightening tone of voice. Generally speaking, the army and the police had a bit of a complicated relationship. Although Edgar was a major general, the officer was not too afraid of him as he was not actually in the army. However, another point was that Edgar had been the mayor here for five years!
"Sir, who were you talking about?" the police officer asked.
The question seemed to pass through Edgar's ears as he just put down the binoculars again and did not respond. However, he turned to his unit's captain and ordered in a commanding voice, "Survey the surroundings with your people. Find the most advantageous positions before take action to rescue the hostages!"
"Yes, Sir!" the captain answered briskly. The captain then ran to his men and proceeded to follow Edgar's instruction.
While all the people in the vicinity were occupied, the people of XK Intelligence Agency had already arrived in that short amount of time. Their vehicles' wheels skidded against the asphalt to a screeching halt.
Brian Long strode forward to the major general and police captain. Some people in the area who didn't know him began to whisper among themselves why someone came to an area that was in a lock-down. Then, they saw both Edgar and the police officer turn to greet him.
"Brian!
Why did you come here?
Is something up?" When Brian had joined them, the police officer grumbled to himself, 'Wish there is not the kid of this big man!'
However, before Brian could retort back Edgar had spoken for him already. "His wife is in the room. How cannot he appear here?!" the major general said in an irritated voice. "Am I right, Brian?" Edgar raised his eyebrows as he asked.
However, Brian did not respond to Edgar's question and instead, looked at the badge pinned on his right chest. He calmly said, "I haven't said congrats to you when you returned to the army and was promoted to major general." The said major general's lips curved upward into a slight smile. However, that smile did not reach his ears.
Meanwhile, Black wolf had followed Brian. While its master talked to Edgar, it laid on its stomach, with its big green eyes fixated on the art class room. Suddenly, it began to growl and bark in a low tone.
Brian's eyes darted to Black Wolf and in turn, looked at the art class too. 00000000
