Love Began with the First Meeting -
Chapter 816 Say You Love Me! (Part One)
If a woman keeps grumbling about your history with other women, then the best way to shut her up is to seal her lips with a fervent kiss. No woman can resist such a sweet attack from the man she loves.
It was beyond everyone's expectations that the engagement ceremony of the power holder of the Dragon Island would be objected by Mark, who was the successor to the throne of the Dragon Island and also the son of the power holder's cousin with Molly, who was the woman to be betrothed to the power holder. The startling news, like a bomb thrown into a peaceful lake, immediately aroused a surging wave of fervent talks in Dragon Island, becoming the hot topic of conversation at the dining table in each household. The ripples it had caused didn't cease for a long time.
There were a variety of gossips about this incident among the citizens. They were confused and curious about the love triangle between Molly and the Long brothers. They were furious at Molly for her shameful and irresponsible love affair with both men, who seemed to have been deceived by her beauty and trapped by her love games. She was a disgraceful woman in everyone's eyes now. But Molly knew nothing about the gossips at this time.
Meetings were held at the office of the Minister of the Public and Communications Department one after another in succession in the National Congress. Officers in the power holder's Secretary Office were burdened with numerous calls requiring the latest information about the power holder as well as his plans for the future. They were all exhausted and on the brink of collapse.
Lenny glanced with a frown at the busy staff scurrying to and fro in the hall before entering into the lift and going straight to the top floor.
Eric stood alone in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in his office, looking outside into the distance. The sea was dyed in a layer of flaring colorful coating by the setting sun. The waves sparkled stunningly with countless ripples under the caress of the winter breeze. There was a gentle knock on the door.
Eric slightly turned his head to cast a look at it from the corner of his eyes. Then he shifted his gaze back to the sea again and said, "Come in!"
Lenny pushed open the door and stepped inside. She looked at Eric's back and put down the documents on his desk. "Young Master, we have eliminated every piece of information about Miss Xia from the news media. They have promised to report Miss Xia in pseudonym instead of her real name and all her pictures will be blurred when published."
"Good," Eric said in a low voice before sinking into quietness. Only a few news media had been allowed to report the engagement ceremony on the spot. Besides the most authoritative TV station on the island, ZTV station, all the other news media were financially supported by the Dragon Empire Group. And that was why only those media channels were allowed to participate in the ceremony. Eric had taken into consideration what might happen during the ceremony.
"But," Lenny paused, searching for the right words, "ZTV broadcast the ceremony live. So many have already seen what had transpired during the ceremony. Molly has unfortunately become the target of criticism on the island."
"Prepare a press conference in the Dynasty Hotel at 10 a.m tomorrow to clarify everything," Eric said flatly, revealing no trace of his real emotions.
"Yes, sir!" Lenny replied in a soft voice while staring at his back. Receiving no further instruction from him, she left his office.
Eric took out his cell phone after Lenny had left. He went through his contact list and found the phone number of the CEO of ZTV. He dialed the number without hesitation.
When he heard the click on the other end, he spoke without any introduction, "What happened during today's ceremony should remain confined to this island. I don't want anybody outside this island to know anything about today's incident, especially Brian and Molly's identities," Eric said in a measured, but stern tone. His voice became colder as he continued, "I'll be very disappointed if the incident causes any damage to Addison's reputation as the heir to the power holder of the Dragon Island. I will not tolerate any harm aimed at him. I don't care how you do it, but get it done. I hope you will not disappoint me."
The man on the other end of the phone could clearly feel the oppressive pressure even through the phone. He immediately replied, "Yes, it'll be done." Eric hung up without another word.
Silence filled the room again. It was so quiet that the commotion from the Secretary Office could be heard clearly. He was thankful that he didn't have to be in the midst of all that noise.
Eric settled his gaze upon the setting sun which was just inches above the horizon. A wicked smile broke across his face as he murmured, "Brian, I have done you a huge favor today. And you better repay me in double for this."
His eyes were full of bitterness. Like a monster set free from its cage, the loneliness in the air began to encroach everything in the room. The dusky sun poured its fading light on Eric and the weak sun cast his lonely shadow on the floor.
At the same time, outside the National Congress Building, a woman sneakily approached and covered herself well between the Z-shaped evergreen plants. She had to adjust her camera lens from time to time to get a clear picture of the interior of the building. But her camera still caught nothing.
"Wow. What a magnificent building! What kind of glass have they used for it? The interiors cannot be seen at all from the outside," she grumbled in anger and continued, "Just one photo! I must bring back one photo of the grieving power holder of the island. I cannot return without it! My salary and bonus depends on this! Please, just let me capture one photo. Help me, God!"
