Along with the busy streets, the ambulance whistled on the road beating the rush hour. During this time most people were returning home from a busy day. The blue and red lights from the ambulance flashed alarmingly and the siren was set in a high pitch. The driver was determined not to meet any delays along the way as every second counted. The sound, the lights, and the haste made by the ambulance made people feel more restless and impatient. Seeing the pale and pained face of Claude, the clerk of the Investigations Branch secretly spit and cursed, 'Shit! How could I be so hapless? Of all people in the department, why am I so unlucky to handle the case of the Leng's Corporations? What should I do?' Seated beside Claude, who was lying limply on the bed inside the ambulance, the more the investigator was thinking about it, the angrier he got. In his mind, he thought about kicking Claude out of the ambulance, even though he could see that Claude was passing out then.

After a while, the ambulance arrived at the hospital and the alarm stopped. There were attendants that were waiting by the entrance of the emergency room and a bed was already waiting for the patient. Claude was immediately transferred from the ambulance to the emergency room.

By the nurse station of the hospital, the clerk was busy with the papers and medical records of Claude while the Chief of the Investigation Branch arrived together with other clerks. All of them waited outside of the emergency room, with different hopes and wishes running on their heads. One would wish for Claude's hasty revival while the other wished him certain death so as not to create further troubles knowing that it was the Leng's Corporations whom he had bumped into.

The emergency treatment was finished in less than an hour and the doctor went out. With a relaxed and confident face, he explained that Claude passed out due to extreme stress, and it was not that seriously dangerous. Then he stressed however that Claude needed to stay in the hospital for a couple of days for further observations.

"How did this happen?" Claude's family members asked with surprise and anger. They arrived at the hospital upon learning about what happened to the head of their family. They rushed to the emergency room and was surprised to see that the doctor was already out and was talking with the members of the Investigation Team. Knowing that these men would bring no good to Claude, they glared at the members of the Investigation Branch and asked about Claude's case, "It is just an investigation, isn't it? What have you done to him? Why was he rushed to the hospital if you were just asking him questions?"

Looking at the furious faces of the family members, the chief asked the clerk to explain what had happened. The clerk had to walk over, with an expression of deep sympathy and said, "Mr. Claude Li passed out because he was too shocked with how the way thing turned out at the office. We questioned him following the protocols..." "Ahhh!"

The clerk wasn't able to finish his explanation when he was pushed heavily by Claude's wife, Carrie Zhang, and he almost fell down to the ground. With Mrs. Zhang's arrogant behavior, the situation became a mess immediately.

Seeing the disturbing treatment they received from Claude's wife, the chief decided to call the police. Minutes later, the policemen came and with all their authorities tried to keep order between the two parties.

"I want to see my husband!" Carrie screamed not wanting to stay with the presence of the police and the investigating team. The woman looked pathetic and pale. Her eyes were red as she looked so angry. She was so furious at the moment that she had clutched her hands to keep them from trembling. Glaring at the policemen and not giving slight respect to them she shouted, "I have to see him by my eyes..."

She screamed so hard, though her voice was quivering that the nurses and the visitors nearby turned their heads to see who caused such cuss. Luckily there were no reporters around the area or else, or, it would be reported on the first page of tomorrow's newspaper. After several discussions with the Investigation Team and making sure that no rules were violated, the Chief agreed that Carrie could enter the room where Claude was confined together with two clerks. However, she was limited to only an hour for Claude needed to rest too.

'In fact, they needn't hear the case at all, 'the Chief told himself. The Leng's Corporations had already sent them a detailed document, including the exact time Claude had the unauthorized diversion of funds, where the funds went and who benefited from the money. They were just questioning him as a matter of routine protocol.

Inside the room, Claude had just come to his senses when his wife, Carrie, entered the ward. As soon as Carrie saw her husband lying weakly in bed, tears started to fall from her eyes and her shoulders shivered as she sobbed. The two clerks, who had come in together with her, felt sorry to see her crying.

After a long while, Carrie braced herself and stopped crying. Wiping her eyes dry, she said something and tried to make him feel better, "I will replace the best lawyers for you." Giving Claude a kiss on the forehead, she left the room hastily and strode out of the hospital without looking back. After Carrie was gone, everyone that was left including the head of the Investigation Branch and the chief of police felt relieved as the place grew quiet without Carrie's hysterical cries.

Left alone in the room, Claude stared at the ceiling faintly. As time passed by, his eyes wandered and an expression of cruelty appeared on them as if something nasty was formed on his head.

Outside the hospital, the night grew dark and gloomy. Ordinary people from ordinary walks of life were now having their dinners and were satisfied as they shared a hefty meal together with their loved ones. Carrie, on the other hand, was seated on her car lonely. Her heart was heavy at the thought of his husband's cruel fate under the Leng family. Wrath and revenge filled her thoughts and she was determined to get things even. 000000000000
