Love Began with the First Meeting -
Chapter 958 Extra Story 96 Of Aaron A Secret of Life
Truly a tragedy that nobody saw coming."
Ximena skimmed over the report with her already bloodshot eyes until she saw the last paragraph.
"However, such an accident has been kept secret by somebody on purpose. With a desperate heart, the newspaper decided to make it public despite the possibility that this might be our last issue. We condemn the unfair world, the huge gap between the rich and the poor in QY Island. Here, as long as you have enough power and money, human life wouldn't matter! A three-year-old kid has lost her parents forever. People who committed the crime, people who concealed it, and people who stopped investigation...none of whose who involved are clean. Hereto we speak to the people in power. As the culprits who changed her into an orphan, don't you need to question yourself? Or even receive legal sanction?!"
As soon as she finished reading the report, Ximena burst into a fit of rage, tears overflowing from her eyes. She couldn't breathe, and after a few moments, she collapsed on the bed, shaking uncontrollably. Her mind couldn't comprehend that her parents, who she had hated for so long because she thought they had left her to the cruel world, actually had died of a car crash. What was more heartbreaking to read was that her mother had been severely injured just to protect her.
Ximena's tears kept rushing out of her eyes, like rivers in forests after a storm. "Dad! Mom! Please forgive me!" she cried out loud. She could not bear it any longer. For years, she had thought of a variety of possibilities about her origin and how she had been abandoned, but she had never thought of the possibility that her parents had left her forever.
Even though she hated them and she resented them, she had been missing them too.
"AH!" Ximena yelled, inching closer to a full-on mental breakdown. She tried to get up but she only ended up sliding from the bed to the hard floor.
As the sound of hurried footsteps came through, Aaron opened the door of the bedroom abruptly. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Ximena, who was sitting on the floor, howling and nearly out of breath. It was like she was out of her mind. Her make-up has smudged all over her pretty face, and her bloodshot eyes did not help her appearance at all.
"Ximena..." Aaron called her name in a soft voice. The sight of his love being a mess like this broke his heart into a million pieces. It was so painful that he could not breathe. Because of that, he quickly averted his eyes from Ximena, and began thinking back to what had happened during the banquet. Upon looking around the room, he saw photos on the bed. Quickly, he approached and picked them up. After that, he went through them.
Finding that these photos were about a traffic accident, he slightly frowned and wondered whether she was crying over pictured accident. 'Wait a minute, ' he thought.
Aaron turned his head to look at Ximena and then snapped his gaze back to the photos. 'Did this accident happen to her parents?' he thought.
"Ah! Ah!" Ximena cried so badly that she was wheezing, obviously out of breath. Balling one of her hands into a fist, she kept striking her chest. All the emotions she's had pent up inside her were being released at that moment through her cries.
Aaron put the photos on the bed and then squatted in front of Ximena. With an emotionless face, he looked at her. However, deep sorrow was now embedded in his cold eyes. "Ximena..." he said, trying to comfort the grieving girl.
"Ah! Ah! Ah!" Ximena kept striking her chest with her fist, completely ignoring the man in front of her. Absorbed in the report she had read just now, she wasn't aware of anything else.
Aaron grabbed Ximena's wrist in order to stop her from striking her chest again but Ximena just balled up her other fist and continued striking her chest with it. Meanwhile, the paper that had been in her hand slid on the floor. Her other fist was grasped by Aaron too before she was able to strike her chest.
Aaron pulled Ximena into his own embrace. Hearing her break down and despair, he felt so sad that he also could hardly breathe. "Don't worry. I will investigate the accident and replace out the guilty person. I will avenge your parents. Okay?"
he said in a low and deep voice, but that could not comfort Ximena who collapsed in his arms. By instinct, she balled her hands into fists once again in order to strike her chest. However, since she was in Aaron's embrace, her fists struck his back.
The strikes hurt Aaron, and he could just imagine how much pain Ximena would be in if her strikes fell on her own body, which was much less strong than his. If she kept striking herself, her body would be damaged.
"Ximena..." Aaron called her name again in a soft voice in order to console her. "Ximena, Ximena..."
Ximena was still crying, without any sign of stopping. The report she had just read would not leave her head anytime soon.
"In order to protect his wife and daughter, the father made a sharp turn in order to get the driver's seat of their car face the oncoming car, which was driven by the drunk driver. The father died instantly. The mother, on the other hand, tried her best to protect her daughter, who is only three years old, with her own body. The injuries she sustained all over her body were too horrible to look at. The mother died on the way to hospital."
"Dad, mom... Aha..." Ximena howled, her mouth wide open. Her sight became blurred by her endless tears. Nobody else would understand what kind of pain she was going through that made her strong will collapse in an instant.
Aaron called her name continuously and tightened his grip on her body. Her fists fell on his body ceaselessly, like raindrops, until she fainted from too much crying.
Seeing that, Aaron closed his eyes and pursed his lips into a straight line. He took a deep breath before he opened his eyes. Then he placed Ximena on the bed and covered her with a quilt. After that, he went to the bathroom to get a wet towel and wiped the tear stains off her face.
Even in her sleep, Ximena was sobbing. Her face looked deathly pale, which was a color of despair. It looked like she had lost purpose in her life. Aaron was very familiar with such helplessness.
Too many people had showed him such an expression, and because of that, he got used to it. Every time he saw a deathly pale face, indifference was all he felt. He had never imagined that one day, he would be afraid to see one.
"Ximena, you're not allowed to leave without my permission!" Aaron mumbled, gritting his teeth. He didn't mean that she could not leave him. He meant that she could not leave the world by giving up on life. "If the person who caused the accident is still alive, I make that person pay and I would give your parents justice! I promise!"
he said, his eyes wide and determined. All of a sudden, he felt something was under his feet. By instinct, he looked down at the floor. He saw several pieces of paper, on which newspaper clippings were pasted, scattered on the floor. Immediately, a photo on a newspaper clipping caught his attention.
Slowly, he bent to pick up the papers. His eyes had been fixed on the photo of his mother on the newspaper clipping. After a while, he turned his eyes to look through the text quickly. When he finished reading the report, he froze where he was standing. He couldn't believe what he had just read.
